The new look of the eBay Community
Hello, the "new" Community is here and I’d love to read your feedback about it (positive and negative😉). I can’t promise you that certain things will change, but we can work together with Khoros 100% to achieve future improvements. Of course, there are also areas that we can tackle directly based on your feedback 💪.
I’ll be putting the finishing touches on certain areas throughout today, but if you come across anything that seems odd, doesn’t work, or if you just need help figuring out where, for example, your favorite thread is, please let me know here in this thread as well!
Thanks again for your patience 💐,
Steffi
Hallo, ich bin Steffi! 🌷

Hello 😊 - many thanks for your numerous responses. As you have probably already noticed, we were able to implement some of it and we are not done yet! I will now close this thread, but you are still welcome to reach me via a private message!

·5 years agoDear ebay team,
I too would like to join my family in agreeing with the community and let you know that we do not agree with the new changes at ebay or ebay's new payment process. It is sad that ebay always comes up with something that does not generally “improve” things, but rather makes them worse. Some time ago there was the problem with the “shipping costs”. It was not understandable why the shipping costs were included in the listing fees. Private sellers also spend this money on parcels and letters, so why did they want to take a cut here too? Many ebay users then no longer felt like using it and less was sold, so then the whole thing was rolled back again.
In this case it is similar: 0.35 cents are charged for every sale, for what??? Then instead of 10% sales fees now 11% ???? And at the same time they want to assure ebay users that no commission will be taken for ebay handling the payments. But most ebay users do not even want the payments handled!!!!!!!!!!
Strange, then why the 11% and the 0.35 cents. It really feels like private sellers are being taken for fools.. There is hardly anything left from the sales proceeds anyway, but it keeps going up and up…
In general, we would like to decide for ourselves what to offer: normal bank transfer payment, PPal, Klarna, etc. Why does ebay dictate everything to us. Until now everyone could decide how they wanted, and we have been using it since 2003 and it has always worked well. There is by no means any simplification here, because nothing was hard or complicated in the first place. Ebay apparently wants to have control over everything. Every ebay user wants to manage their money themselves, and no consideration is being given to that here. On top of that, there are the fees with PPal as well. Most of the time it is the case that you do not sell your rather expensively paid items anywhere near the price you paid for them back then, and now even more is being withheld by ebay and above all you are no longer self-determined. We want to sell our items and decide for ourselves how payment is made; every person is entitled to that and nobody wants to be patronized here. Ebay has separated from PP, so of course ebay no longer benefits from that, that is clear, but this is also about the people who are offering their property. 10% of the sales proceeds was already hefty, 11% is, in our opinion, not justified, including the €0.35 - and still, for what???
The reason that buyers do not receive the bank details is also not relevant. With PPal the buyers do not receive them, and with bank transfer everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to take the risk or not. Maybe I want it that way?? There is clearly a lack of freedom of choice here, which every person should have, and it has worked very well for years. Forcing sellers to accept ebay's new rules, we think, is not the right decision and does not exactly encourage people to sell more; we think this will definitely backfire. As a comparison, once again the old “shipping costs story”.
We had already spoken about this with a nice lady from ebay, but that does not change the fact that this way it is no fun, apart from the fact that now nobody can keep track of things anymore. We are still waiting today for the payment from a "test sale" that was made on 17.02. If we had done it on our own, everything would already be done. Payment received and T-shirt sent. Now you're left standing there and can do nothing. We ask you, please simply switch it back to how it was before, because that was fun and it worked too. It does not work this way and it is no fun. More work than anything else. Why always try to make everything better when it works?? That is really a shame.
We would therefore like to let you know that in future, because of these changes - like many others as well - we will no longer be active on ebay as much.. There are now some alternatives such as Kleiderkreisel, Amazon etc., because for most private sellers it will no longer be worth the effort required to list an item if less comes out in the end. We personally run the whole thing very carefully, with nice photos, precise descriptions, and it takes us a lot of time to list things in this way. And above all: it simply is not fun anymore. In summary, the fun and enjoyment of listing and selling is missing in the future when ebay once again raises everything and introduces changes that most ebayers do not want. It would be nice if this new feature could be decided FREELY, either things continue as before or whoever wants it accepts the new feature; then you will surely find that most ebay users are happy with the current concept, despite the 10% sales commission, which is already very steep. Everyone should therefore have the free choice here and not “if you do not do this and that, then…”
Today we already had no desire at all to relist the expired items and will look for an alternative. If, as a family, we find another method that is more favorable for the seller, we will try it; the good old flea market is now more back in focus again, too, and many will certainly have more sales success there again than at ebay.
We would therefore like to let you know that we are very disappointed with your imposed new approach and think it is a shame, because ebay has given us a lot of fun for years, but unfortunately not anymore now. We find it very sad that changes keep coming that do not make anything better, only worse and worse. There is no motivation left now, shame that you do not see it that way. It would be nice if, regarding this matter, you would take a moment in management to reflect and reconsider the whole thing once again, de

Hello @mickey_und_minnie_mouse and thank you very much for your detailed feedback, which I will pass on to the relevant colleagues. Please note that this thread is exclusively about changes to the appearance of the community and not about changes made by eBay. It is important to us to provide all members with a pleasant place to exchange ideas with other members; unfortunately, we have no influence here on eBay processes, except that we can pass on your feedback to the relevant departments. Thank you for your understanding 💐

As far as I’ve checked so far, it seems the camera icon is only available for members of the expert group.
So image uploads and screenshots are not possible in the eBay Cafe, as well as in the Help and Discussion forums,
not possible.
.....and what about the view counter for the individual posts in the Cafe threads?
it would be nice to know whether it’s being read......it’s basically a kind of feedback.....

And even if reading through all this is awkward.... Steffi had already said on 18/2/2021 that she had opened a ticket with Khoros because of the camera icon.

I’d find it great if posts were displayed one after another according to the time. Everyone who clicks reply goes to the top and everyone else gets pushed back.
Some people go to the trouble of using the unbearably cramped comment function, so why make the effort at all if it can be done differently and in a more confusing way?

aftoncooper
·5 years ago · Edited@Steffi @eBay " So it's about the newest post being at the top?"
No Steffi, quite the opposite. I find it inconvenient that so many people put themselves ahead of others, even though they reply three days later. The flow of a thread gets completely diluted this way; some things are at the top, some comments much further back. One person asks, the next answers, etc., and all of that in a clear order.
That would be desirable. And you can certainly control that with date and time.
Just like it used to be in the cafe.

·5 years ago · EditedHi, @Steffi @eBay
could you please configure the toolbar (reply box) in the help forum exactly the same way as here in the discussion forum?
I find it unbearable that in the HF I first always have to click the three dots to reach the quote function, while here in the DF it is wonderfully visible right away.
Why have different toolbars at all? I don’t understand the point.
steffi@ebay
Hello @bootyooty I’d also need a screenshot here, please, since I have these three dots in both forums. @katie@ebay and I had already been thinking today whether we could remove some options to shorten the bar itself. What do you think?

@Steffi @eBay
I would leave out the suggestions "Insert / Edit code sample" (I don't even know what that's for anyway) and "Remove formatting / justified / right-aligned / decrease + increase indent"
Hardly anyone uses the Spoiler Tag, I only do when I want to include a very long EP in the reply, but not have it shown directly, and the table is actually unnecessary too
HTML used to be a separate tab, the same goes for the preview - I had to search for it here first, and it's also noticed rather poorly
... and why is my reply now displayed directly below the post I replied to ??
bootyooty
·5 years agoYep, @hasjana now you were faster than me, a lot can go, I also wouldn’t know right now what we need the numbered list or bullet list for, could that go too?
hasjana
·5 years ago~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would think so too
normally I insert the • myself, if you don’t know how, a - or whatever also works ... and I think most people can also put 1,2,3 in front of a list, the text of a list doesn’t need to be indented separately in a forum and whoever likes can do it with html if needed 🙂
*sweet-melody*

aftoncooper

in the expert group there is a camera icon
How come it is available in a closed club, but not in the forum? Why the double standards? It would be desirable if that were improved too.

It's like a lottery which forum do I choose now, oh this one, nah, actually better that one.
You've really spread yourselves thin here, a lot of questions won't be answered. The structure is far too confusing. Take a look at Sky, it's also run by Khoros, dreadful.
Reply to the original post, then the post appears first.
Reply to a post in the thread, then the post appears under the submitted post/date and disappears into oblivion. Unfortunately, as already written, I can't insert a photo.

It would be desirable for the comment column to become larger. Not every question can be resolved with an answer, and having to keep going back to the reply option isn’t very nice for the flow either.

·5 years agoHi steffi,
Too bad once again eBay missed a chance to make a statement with support for and involvement of its community, especially in times like these.
I still remember how Mark Steier tried to make us believe, in his view, that eBay had recognized the signs of the times with its new boss and would now pay more attention to users and their needs.
Maybe they listened with one ear, but then promptly disposed of the content out the other ear too.
Admittedly, that’s a guess, but when I look at recent developments, I increasingly feel that eBay is moving further and further away from its core DNA.
You don’t have to reinvent every wheel, but relying only on the existing wheels will, in my opinion, lead in the medium and long term to a toolbox of programs (toolchain) that can be swapped out and replaced at any time.
Conclusion: as a volunteer helper, driver, and source of innovation, I’m out for now. Let’s see how eBay’s future continues to unfold — or even gets wound down.

Otherwise, I think it's inconvenient that in a thread you always land on page 1 and have to scroll all the way down before you can turn the page.
Can the page-turning function be moved to the top, so that I can turn the page right at the top?
I think the option from new to old is rather inconvenient, since then I'm basically reading backwards.
What I don't like is that in the overview I can no longer see when something new has been posted in a thread.

I can hardly believe it, what’s going on? It shows three replies and no matter which filter I choose, there aren’t any more.
It took me a full 5 minutes to find your post here and be able to read it.

·5 years agoHello @bootyooty
I’ve read and learned a lot in the community in the past.
Laughed, threw my hands up in disbelief at the questions that came up.
I’m not putting myself through that anymore now. Too bad, really.
The same goes for the new payment processing.
Kind regards

·5 years agoHey there @pennystocknomoney
I see it the same way. I don't support the new payment method and I'm not going to get into it just so I can help others. How am I supposed to explain something I strictly reject myself? No, that won't work.
As for the changes here in the community: I don't know whether I can and will get used to them. I think, probably not. I guess I'm really too old now for every new crap. 😎

·5 years agoHi Steffi, nice and all, for our old folks 🙂 !! They don’t need reading glasses anymore with the new design. Even the neighbor across the street could read along 🙂
How about getting an opinion from Ebay regarding the damage to our shops that are not in agreement with the new payment processing. But I’d be even more interested in the opinions on the competitive advantage that some accounts are being given here.
And why can French and American users continue to use the old payment processing here in masses ??!! When, for example, the USA is the first platform to have been switched over. Do they maybe not have any pressure to do so ?? !! And why did revenue collapse completely exactly when the deadline for the switch ended ??
