Is this a scam?
Hi,
I have a question. Someone from Germany wants to sell their car. He says it’s on eBay, but I can’t find it right away. (I found the car on autoscout24. I’m getting the story below, but I don’t really believe it. I’m not very familiar with eBay, but if you read the story below, is this for real or a scam?
He writes:
I have a contract with eBay buyer protection. The price includes shipping and other costs. You only need to pay the amount for the vehicle and nothing extra. I offer you a period of 5 days (or 300 km) from the moment you receive the vehicle to inspect it before I have your money. I think that is more than fair for both parties.
The payment goes through eBay, not to me, I do not want any money upfront. You have 5 days to inspect and the option to accept or reject the vehicle at my expense.
eBay checks the car for condition and the paperwork for completeness, I get the money when they ultimately decide to buy the car. If the car, for whatever reason, has hidden defects or is not as I have written to you, you reject the agreement. In that case eBay will refund your money and I will send my car back, at my expense.
So, if you are interested in starting the transaction, please send me your:
- Whatsapp number so we can communicate more easily.
- A copy of your identity card.

I hope to hear something.

The car isn’t on Ebay, so no Ebay buyer protection either
By the way: and buying a car abroad without seeing it first is asking for trouble !!
