I’m just getting a message from eBay that starting on 28.9.26, a 30-day return policy with free return shipping (so paid by me) will become mandatory. That means I can close my shop!
Example: customer buys snow chains - goes on a 2-week winter holiday - didn’t need the chains and of course sends them back.
So I pay for the outbound delivery and the return shipping costs : loss of about EUR 15.- to EUR 20.- for every “sold” set of chains
What I like best is the part "With this change, we want to strengthen buyers’ trust when purchasing vehicle parts & accessories and help you stay competitive and increase your sales opportunities."
Ridiculous!

and how could we help with that? eBay has decided this for certain categories and items, and it won’t be contestable.
I also see this as an outrageous вмешательство into sellers’ listings and details, but eBay is the host here and you either make your peace with it or don’t offer such items at all.
Buyer trust may well increase, but definitely not sellers’ trust in eBay if you’re being patronized like that.

In fact, after 53 years I have to close my shop if this goes through!

·1 week agoBut the community isn’t meant to be a place to vent your frustration. Here you’re only addressing other users as well.
I also think what eBay is doing there again is absolutely outrageous, but whether that’s lawful or not can’t be clarified here either.
eBay is always very quick about this: something gets decided by whoever, and whoever comes up with such nonsense, and the sellers get to deal with the consequences.
