Since we don’t have a specific topic this week, please don’t hesitate to ask your general buying or selling questions here. So that we can answer your questions more quickly, we ask that you please post one question per post. Of course, you’re welcome to post as many contributions in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we want you to!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered - please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click “Reply” between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and therefore further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.

·4 years agoI was asked to change my account from private to business and to provide my VAT ID. What is this nonsense? I am just a normal private person who buys a lot on eBay and occasionally sells something used.
What do I need to do to keep selling as a private person?
(I couldn’t find any email address I could contact, and the phone callback obviously doesn’t work)

Hello @lordlight and thanks for your question! From when sellers on our marketplace are acting commercially can only ever be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Our criteria for commercial trading are the sale of a high number of identical or similar items that are typically not privately owned, the regular sale of new goods, and the planned sale of identical or similar goods over a longer period of time. We have summarized everything else in our legal portal.
We recommend that you contact a legal advice center with questions about your legal obligations, as we are not allowed to give legal advice.
The contact options at the bottom of each Help page are topic-dependent, and you can also find our email address and phone numbers in the legal notice. The callback option should work as long as you are logged into your eBay account; the expected wait time is currently only 2 minutes 😉.

I already reported this once before.
The help says that I can change my account from private to business.

Hello @Anonymous! Also for you, a note that an active selling account must exist in order to set up the business account. Anyone who has not yet switched to payment processing (this happens when listing the first item) can also open a new eBay account in order to sell on eBay as a business.

Example: someone asked how to switch a private account to a business account. The eBay help takes you somewhere, but not to where you can get the relevant instructions.

Hello @perfect-sally and thank you for getting involved again today. The help page: Register as a seller explains the process correctly in general. It only works once an active private seller account is already being used. Take a look at my reply in the thread and feel free to get back to me if you still have any questions about it:switch from private to business

·4 years agoWhen will eBay finally get the problems with Sofortüberweisung under control? Every day users show up where the first payment doesn’t go through and then they have to pay again and are afraid that the failed payment is lost.
Nothing has happened on eBay’s part for weeks and longer.

a question that you’ve already asked several times. We still can’t give a general answer to this, as each case has to be looked at individually. In general, there is no disruption or error regarding Sofortüberweisung. eBay members who come up in the Community or customer service are also forwarded accordingly for review in order to take a closer look at the cause. Here too, there are various factors, and eBay is not always to blame.

we have hardly any reports about this, apart from the few from some in the community. Our technicians have checked it several times already and were unable to reproduce it. We are continuing to keep an eye on it and collect anything new that gets reported about it. It could be due to browser plugins / add-ons or settings regarding cookies & cache, or switching between different accounts. That is the current status; we have no new information on this, and our technical department has not been able to find an error so far.
