💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A on 04/03/2026 at 2:00 p.m.
Summary: During an eBay Q&A session, mmstore74 criticized eBay’s practice of charging fees on shipping costs and complained that eBay made more profit from a particular sale than the seller did. miriam@ebay replied that the fee policy takes different conditions for commercial and private sellers into account and promised to pass on the concerns. It was also emphasized that the event was a Q&A session and not a discussion panel. The discussion mainly centered on dissatisfaction with eBay’s fee structures.

·6 months agoHello, dear ebay community team!
(Unfortunately, I don't know how to mark.)
I’m having the problem again that a large number of my listed items are not being displayed.
According to Cockpit, I have 2,945 active items - but in my shop there are only 2,784: that means 161 items are not being displayed.
In the past, a simple phone call could trigger the synchronization of the shop, and everything was back in order.
Could you initiate this?
Many thanks+
best regards
Michael

Hello @fonobox ,
is it the same again as in September? Subject: 💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A on 10.09.2025 at 14:00

·6 months agoHello, I’m a private seller, and I sent a book worth €5 as a DHL MaxiBrief with limited tracking. According to the tracking, DHL confirmed that it processed the shipment at the Hannover logistics center. After that, there are no further updates for the tracking number.
The buyer says he did not receive the book. The costs were credited back to the buyer by eBay because I could not prove that it was delivered. Question: Since DHL confirmed that the shipment was processed at the logistics center, it was sent by me, so the fault lies with DHL. Why does seller protection not apply to me here (the seller), since the shipping risk is actually with the buyer. Best, Uwe

I’d be happy to take a closer look at this — could you please send me the order or item number?
Kind regards

·6 months agoHi
Just seeing now that it was my wife's account (account Name: popobrand):
Item no. 197898901334 (Book Die Illustrierte Geschichte Des Islam)
Best regards, Uwe

·6 months agoHello @blasentee400
thanks for the feedback 🙂
If it is your wife’s account, unfortunately I’m not allowed to give you any information for data protection reasons. In this case, your wife would need to take action herself so that she can be properly verified and I can take a look at her account.
Kind regards
Samantha

·6 months agoThe matter is closed for us. My wife is not reachable right now. It could have been that I/we might have gotten an answer to this issue, which is of general interest.

·6 months agoHello @blasentee400
In principle, if you have a Matrix code bought through us, you have automatic seller protection as long as the order value including postage does not exceed 20 euros.
It is important to get in touch here or with customer service as soon as possible, so that we can check and process this exactly.
Kind regards

·6 months agoHello dear @community-team@ebay
I want to close my Ebay shop and would like to know whether the items I don't end will continue automatically?
I have 2-3 items with a very long history and would like to keep them running.
Kind regards
Marc

Hello @mmstore74 and sorry that you're deciding to close your shop. Your question is justified and is also listed on our Help page: Close eBay shop under "Frequently asked questions":
What happens to my listings when I close my eBay shop?
When you close your eBay Shop, all current listings remain active until the set end date or until all items are sold.
So you won't lose your history and you'll know the current status 🤗.
Best regards
Miriam

·6 months agoThanks a lot @miriam@ebay and if Ebay would finally take care of its sellers so that things would be fair again and you could talk about competition again, everything would be fine.
Yesterday one of my auctions ended, and it was the icing on the cake.
Item sold for 1.99 €uro ( 1 bid )
Shipping costs listed as 6.99 €uro
Total 8.98 €uro
Shipping costs without materiel 6.19 €uro
Remaining amount 2.79 €uro
Then Ebay comes along and holds out its big hand for 1.70 €uro in fees from everyone
Remaining amount 1.09 €uro
In the end, ebay made 0.61 €uro more than I did myself, even though I didn’t earn anything at all because I didn’t get the stuff for free.
miriam@ebay
Hello @mmstore74 - congratulations on the sale through our platform! Especially with low-priced auctions, fees can make a difference relative to the sale price, since the sales commission is calculated as a percentage of the total amount anyway. This has been regulated that way for several years and is intended to create equal conditions for all sellers, regardless of how the price is split between the item and shipping. We are aware that auctions with a very low final price are hardly economically worthwhile.
Many sellers therefore use:
a higher starting price,
a minimum price,
or the fixed-price format with "Buy Now".
In general, we also recommend regularly reviewing supply and demand as well as the attractiveness of your own range, and calculating in advance exactly which sales format continues to be economically worthwhile for you.
Kind regards
Miriam

·6 months ago@miriam@ebay , I hope I’m allowed to speak so openly?
If Ebay would just be fair for once and not also charge fees on shipping costs, which I think is an absolute outrage to this day, that would already help some people, but Ebay has a double standard.
On the one hand, private sellers get everything for free (domestic), on the other hand Ebay even increases the fees, and that nobody at Ebay wants to understand this is a mystery to me; after all, it’s only natural that people are upset, and unfortunately it doesn’t help when they say
"Yes, we can understand that very well"
The fact that the item only got 1 bid is not something Ebay can be blamed for, but what resulted from it was not right.
It just can’t be that Ebay makes more money from an item than the seller.
Just do something good for us sellers too and give us some relief instead of always demanding more from us—that’s all anyone really wants.
miriam@ebay
Hello @mmstore74! Please understand that this is a Q&A session and not a discussion round.
The different models between commercial and private sellers take different conditions, services and obligations into account, and eBay is not responsible for the low final price of an auction and you can calculate the fees in advance.
We will pass on your wish for relief for merchants. Thank you for taking the time to share your point of view.
Best regards
Miriam
