💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 05/07/23 at 2:00 PM
Hello everyone and ❤️welcome to the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don’t have a specific topic this week, please feel free to post your general buying or selling questions here.
You’re also welcome to send me topics you’d like to see covered in a full Q&A session.
To help us answer your questions more quickly, please choose one question per post. Of course, you’re welcome to write as many posts as you like in the eBay Q&A session - in fact, we encourage it!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will still make sure to answer any questions that may remain unanswered - please allow us some time for that, as we often need to ask other colleagues for support so we can get the correct answer for you.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
The eBay Q&A session format mirrors the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and therefore further down.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited until the next Q&A session*.
Kind regards,
Your eBay Community Team

·3 years agoHello
Why can a few customers send price proposals under 1 euro?
Item costs 1 euro for Buy It Now, customer makes a 0.75 sent price proposal
miriam@ebay
Hello @mm.cards - unfortunately, the Q&A session is already over and you can no longer provide me with a specific item number. Since I can't find an example that matches your description, I can so far only say that for price suggestions under one euro, an error message generally appears.
You're welcome to post here if you'd like us to look into your observation again more closely 🙂.
Best regards
Miriam

·3 years agoDear Sir or Madam,
As part of the preparation of our ICP, we are reviewing all purchasing processes - currently in particular with regard to address checks against sanctions lists.
We have the following question for you:
Are your customers (buyers/sellers) already checked by you as ebay against the sanctions lists before they can sell or purchase on the platform?
If not, how can we obtain the seller's name and address before purchasing an offered item in order to carry out the check ourselves?
Thank you in advance!
Kind regards

Thanks for your question @zlap9511-q1s1eekqam, which unfortunately I can't answer satisfactorily off the cuff, so an internal consultation is necessary.
In principle, we regularly ask our members to confirm their identity in order to ensure safety for everyone on our marketplace. Providing customer data in advance is not possible for data protection reasons.
I will add my answer here over the course of the week 🙂.
Update 7.07.2023: We still have to wait here. I had hoped to get a quicker response for you too and will get back to you again as soon as I have it.
Update 12.07.2023: Hello again @zlap9511-q1s1eekqam! We can't explain exactly when and where eBay carries out sanctions checks. In our policy on trade embargoes we explain that we do not allow sanctioned parties or goods on the platform and that we take measures to remove or restrict users or items matching these descriptions, where required by law.
Further information can also be found in our Terms and Conditions for using the German eBay services
Kind regards

Welcome to the eBay Q&A session! Today @miriam@ebay and I are here for you again.

·3 years agoHello team,
more and more users are complaining because their items have apparently been promoted and they have to pay fees.
Why is promoting enabled by default for so many users?
Why can’t it be left disabled and the sellers have to enable it manually if they want their items promoted?
I think it’s outrageous on eBay’s part to activate this and let users walk straight into the fee trap, when it’s well known by now that users simply don’t pay attention or read carefully.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally and it’s great that you’re joining our Q&A session again today!
I’m familiar with the posts you’re referring to (e.g. here) and I can now say that ads are often activated in the background when settings are made via “similar items” or a template. If you create a listing completely without a product catalog, this ad option is not activated by default.
In the latest listing tool, the ad option can be deactivated or adjusted using the blue toggle switch, and we assume that the settings made are carefully checked before a listing is published.
I’ve already compiled your feedback from the last few days on this topic, and I’ll gladly add your criticism as well, thank you for that 👍.
Best regards
Miriam

·3 years agoOk, I understand and admit that I didn't think of that. Of course, the settings are carried over when “sell similar item” is used.
So it would make sense if eBay only allowed that for your own listings and not for third-party listings. Most users don't think of that and don't check the settings.

·3 years agoHello,
I think I've come across a fake bidder. A buyer has bought 4 items so far, but hasn't paid yet. He keeps bidding on my items or making price suggestions. How can I prevent him from making further purchases?
Thank you very much
miriam@ebay
Hello @tigentor! There are already lots of helpful answers to this question here in the community. If you haven’t been able to find what you’re looking for through the search yet, feel free to open your own topic (for example here) if you’re looking to exchange ideas with other sellers 🙂.
Otherwise, I can recommend our help page: Restrict buyer group or block buyer. Before that, though, it would be nice if you could contact your customer through the eBay messaging system to find out what’s going on. Maybe there are problems with payment, or the member wants to request a combined total to save on shipping costs? In many cases, a late payment is not ill intent.
Best regards

·3 years agoHello Steffi and Miriam
I have the following question:
If I promote an item with the help of a paid ad,
can I as the seller somehow track myself whether the item
was sold normally or really through the ad...
..... apart from the fact that, in the latter case, eBay charges me
the corresponding fees.....
miriam@ebay
Hello @dmary56 and thanks for your question! Sellers can see which items were sold through “ads” in Seller Hub Pro on the “Orders” tab and there on the “Orders” page. There is no more detailed insight.
Assigning a sale and calculating the ad fee based on the click closest to the time of sale is standard practice in the advertising industry, and here we ask you to trust our system.
Kind regards
Miriam

·3 years ago"....and here the rule is to trust our system."
thanks for the answer @miriam@ebay
however, it is somewhat unsatisfactory, since I can't verify
whether I also received the service I paid for and have to rely on the fact
that all systems work flawlessly and without bugs... which is often, of course
not the case, not just at Ebay.
as the saying goes:
Trust is good, control is better....
miriam@ebay
I'll gladly take your feedback on board, @dmary56. So far, however, I am not aware that, for example, the competition grants similar insights into the complex algorithms.
In the course of my daily community work, I also see a lot of eBay accounts in which the sold items are a colorful mix of sales generated via ads and organically sold listings. That has not changed in recent years 🙂.
Kind regards
Miriam

·3 years agoWhy can a buyer rate me negatively even though I canceled the purchase at their request because they didn’t read that only pickup is possible, but that was too far for them? Shouldn’t there be no option for a negative rating from the buyer when selecting "Cancellation at the buyer’s request"? Unfortunately, my buyer did not respond to follow-up questions about why he rated me negatively or to requests for a rating change. In addition, he only rated so late, just before it was no longer possible to rate. A rogue is one who thinks evil of it.
miriam@ebay
Hello @fbcs! We’d need to take a closer look at this, because it may be possible to remove the feedback comment here.
Was a request already submitted via our portal for seller inquiries? We’ll reply to you within 24 hours and you can see the status of the request directly in the portal.

·3 years agoI tried calling about it back then, and the colleague said he couldn't do anything about it. In the portal for seller inquiries I can find the rating, but there's nothing I can submit there. I don't know how I'm supposed to move forward with this.
miriam@ebay
Okay, @fbcs. The only negative rating I can currently see in your account was left in February 2023. Unfortunately, the period for filing an objection here has already expired, and at this point we can no longer verify whether only pickup was specified as the shipping option.
Please contact us directly the next time you receive a rating so that we can review a rating removal for you. In general, we are very strict when it comes to rating removal and only remove ratings in exceptional cases or in the event of policy violations.

·3 years agoCould the fields for the item’s condition be highlighted somehow or made more noticeable? I always seem to overlook the condition, end up with incorrect details in there, and then have to correct them again.
miriam@ebay
Hello @fbcs (Edited 2:55 PM - accidentally @-mentioned the wrong name) and thanks for the suggestion for improvement! We’d like to know how you go about listing an item so we can pass the feedback along accordingly.
If I use a comparable listing from other sellers as a template in the listing tool or create a new one, I have to make the required selection for the item condition in the next step.
Are you referring to this view in the listing tool?:
Best regards
Miriam
fbcs
·3 years agoI generally sell similar offers from my own, because then all the data such as shipping costs are correct. Then the condition is just one point among many others and doesn't stand out.
miriam@ebay
Hi again, @fbcs! Okay, that helps me put it into context. Since the definition of the item condition is one of the most important details, I’m happy to pass this feedback on directly. In future, you can leave your feedback directly in the settings tool at the top right, and it will go straight to the people responsible, take a look:

·3 years agoHello,
Since yesterday I’ve had the well-known problem with the sales form regarding shipping details (including the international selection). I’ve also already looked into the "framework conditions" - it’s too complicated for me.
How can I get the "old" template back?
miriam@ebay
Hello @hada-man and thanks a lot for pointing this out to us. This is a technical problem that has occurred for some people since yesterday evening and should now be fixed again for everyone.
It’s best to quickly clear your cache and cookies, then the shipping details should definitely be visible for you again and you won’t have to set any terms and conditions separately 🙂.

·3 years agoHi @steffi hi @miriam@ebay
is there a way to preset the options for price suggestions, "allow counteroffer" and "send suggestion automatically," on smartphones? Unfortunately, the two preset options are exactly the ones I don't want. So I always have to click several times.
Best regards from the Baltic Sea
Peter
miriam@ebay
Hello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen and nice to hear from you again! Have you already tested whether it works for you if you go through one of your listings via "sell similar item"? Then the preset options you chose should be carried over, and you won't have to set the options for the price suggestion anew every time 🙂.
Best regards
Miriam
