🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 06/04/22
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don't have a specific topic this week, please feel free to ask your general buying or selling questions here. To help us answer your questions more quickly, we ask that you post one question per post. Of course, you can post as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we'd even like that!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 p.m. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will continue to do our best to answer any questions that may still be unanswered - please allow us some time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our Community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and thus further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we would be happy if you post your question directly in the Community, or simply wait for the next Q&A session.
Kind regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoHi,
quick question,
I called eBay again today
to get approval to be able to offer sex toys as a commercial seller.
Both times I was told that our account has no restrictions,
and at the same time meets all requirements, and that we are allowed to list sex toys on eBay.
At the same time, it is not possible for us to list sex toys on eBay,
because this message appears with every listing attempt.
Quote:
There seems to be a problem with this listing.
The category “Sexspielzeug” is currently still being tested and is not available to all sellers.
At the moment, only certain sellers are allowed to sell in the category.
It would be nice if you could pass this on.
Feel free to send a private message to our account blackrubb
Thank you,
miriam@ebay
Hello @blackrubb and thank you for your interest in listing offers in the subcategory "Beauty & Health - Family Planning & Erotica". To review approval for activation, we need, among other things, further details about your product range plan.
Please contact our customer service again with your request so that you can be provided with a detailed list of all required information, which you can then send us in Excel format. You can also find the relevant email address in the legal notice 🙂.
Kind regards

·4 years agoHello everyone,
I have a small problem and don’t know how to proceed.
We have a customer who bought a PoE injector (new) from us in November 2021, and unfortunately it has now broken after a short period of use. The customer contacted us about this on Ebay, and we immediately agreed to take it back (an exchange isn’t possible because we no longer have this device). The customer wanted to submit a return request through Ebay, but unfortunately that no longer worked, so we sent him a return label by message.
The item has now arrived back with us, and I wanted to refund the buyer the money, but under "Paid & Shipped" I can no longer open the purchase; I can only go back to purchases until January 2022, so how am I supposed to refund him then? We’re not supposed to contact buyers outside of ebay, and for me that also includes transferring money back.
Kind regards
Team4IT
miriam@ebay
Hello @team4it! We really appreciate that you're trying to provide good customer service and that you agreed to the return. You can find general information on the topics of warranty and guarantee in our legal portal.
The eBay Buyer Protection only protects buyers if a purchased item doesn't arrive, an item received differs significantly from the item description, or buyers don't receive a refund or don't receive a full refund after returning an item within the deadline.
In this specific case, the refund outside of our payment processing is the only option if the transaction is more than 3 months old. We've noted your feedback on this, thanks for that! 👍
Kind regards

·4 years agoHello,
I sell a lot to the USA and am repeatedly shocked by the extreme fees you charge there. So high that it’s really no longer worth it. I therefore sell a lot, especially the high-value products over 1000 euros, outside of Ebay, and even if I sometimes get less there, in the end there is still more left over.
Here is an example:
Selling price incl. shipping: 600 USD (=current exchange rate at payout 547.30 euros)
Transfer amount: 435.53 euros
Total fees effective: 20.42 %
Other sales have a similar % fee burden.
I’m not saying the fees should be 0%, but 20.4% is far above the national fee rate and definitely too much to still earn anything myself. It only makes sense if I buy extremely cheaply. Is Ebay aware of this? Can you forward this to the relevant sales department if necessary? I’d be happy to continue the discussion.
Best regards, Udo Speck (redcup22)

“self-created” digital media were explicitly asked for here...
doesn’t that also raise the question of whether it’s commercial?
patrick@ebay
Hello @dmary56 ,
of course you're right. @giis96 Of course, that would also fall under commercial activity, since you do intend to sell the "self-created" item: When does commercial activity exist on the eBay marketplace?

·4 years agoHello,
I have so far had a private eBay account. I now want to sell commercially as a seller. I also found instructions for this in a community post. It says that you can change the eBay account type via the "change" button. Only: In my eBay account, this option/button is not available.
Could it be that you can no longer change the account type now?
Thank you very much for your help!

I'll take a look after the Q&A session to see what exactly the problem is for you.

patrick@ebay
Hello @schneller-computerservice ,
since you haven’t had any sales yet, that could also be a factor in why you’re missing the option to switch from private to business. I would also recommend checking all your details in general and updating them accordingly. Also keep in mind that eBay now has a new payment processing system, where, for example, PayPal alone is not sufficient when it comes to selling, payouts, and eBay fees; there are still a few steps to complete and things you should also look into. An alternative would be to create an account "new" directly by selecting a business eBay account under "Create account". Business eBay account

Why are there so many Chinese sellers who don't
provide proper legal information.
e.g. no tax number.
Are the Chinese being favored because of the good sales?
For Germans, the account is immediately blocked if they don't have a
tax number.
miriam@ebay
Hello @Anonymous! To clarify whether sellers in Germany are required to register for VAT, a licensed tax advisory office should be contacted.
As a rule, sellers must register for VAT if one of the following three conditions is met:
Please contact the tax authorities if you suspect violations of the VAT regulations.

·4 years agoHello
Regarding the new packaging regulation as of 1.07.2022, I have the following questions:
I have been registered with the Lucid packaging register for years, and I also pay the annual fees for my sales packaging through Der Grüne Punkt.
Do I now also have to register with Lizenzero? Where and how do I pass on my data (registration number) to eBay; that is not stated in the email I received from eBay today.
Thanks and regards
Oli
patrick@ebay
Hello @oli-peppermint ,
you can find all the necessary steps here: DE|AT|CH New packaging regulations for eBay sellers in Germany
Also: From May onwards, eBay will presumably ask sellers to store their LUCID ID (EPR number) in their eBay account. eBay will inform sellers in good time as soon as the corresponding field for entering it is available.

Why can you actually sell here before the
registration is complete?
Sellers keep popping up here who don't
get their money because their account or something else isn't verified.
patrick@ebay
Hello @Anonymous ,
I’m assuming you’re referring to the topic regarding fake accounts? These sellers are, for example, verified with Payoneer and it is even necessary so that worldwide selling can be done. It’s not as simple as you describe. So just registering and getting started, without limits & restrictions, isn’t possible. Especially not when it’s heading toward commercial use.

·4 years ago.........................................................
There have already been enough completely normal sellers here who
listed something and also sold it.
And then didn't get the money because their account
isn't verified.
That has nothing to do with fake accounts.
patrick@ebay
Hello @Anonymous ,
and how do you know that? Because they wrote it? Can you show me some examples of this.
I recently ran various test processes and it wasn't that easy. Especially new accounts have completely different "hurdles" than existing accounts.

·4 years agoInvoice printing, the umpteenth...
Sorry, but I'm slowly losing my temper.
Forced as I am, I have to use an external invoice printing tool because as a commercial guinea pig I am absolutely not taken seriously.
Now I look in here because supposedly invoice printing is also legally compliant for small businesses, but what do I see??
Well, exactly, the sales tax rate line is not displayed, but now my VAT number is missing, which is a MUST on every invoice!
If I click the sales tax field then 0.0% VAT appears again and my VAT number is displayed too.
How long does ebay intend to keep fooling us? Apart from the fact that it is absolutely NOT true that ALL commercial sellers were switched over, was this supposed to be a "deception pill"?
So I am still being forced to use a paid external invoice printer and, of course, I am still allowed to keep paying the high Ebay fees - which actually include invoice printing as well.
We are still just a handful of guinea pigs here; is that how you treat your customers, commercial sellers, and brush them off by saying the old invoice printing can no longer be installed? Strange, because except for us, around 10 guinea pigs, it doesn't work, but otherwise it works for all sellers!
miriam@ebay
Hello @decoupage-art1! I have already taken your question from the topic Update on the new packing slips and invoice documents and am currently waiting for feedback from our product teams so that we can let you know when the VAT identification number (VAT ID) for small businesses can be shown on the invoice documents again.
Even if you may feel that you are alone with this problem, I would like to assure you once again that all business sellers on eBay have been switched over to the new invoice documents, which was confirmed to me again just yesterday.
As soon as I have new information, I will get back to you in the familiar topic 👍.
Kind regards
Miriam

·4 years agoStrange, I now have contact with about 70 VKs, none of them was switched over ... and because of this miserable invoice printing, the forum would have been buzzing!
But we’re used to being messed with here, being fobbed off ....
Then also ask whether they still haven’t heard anything about left-side margin? If invoices are punched, you punch out text too.
decoupage-art1
·4 years agoAnd what about the notice about the small business regulation? This is legally required. Should that then be squeezed in under the seller's messages?
miriam@ebay
That would at least currently be one way to be able to print the required notice on the invoice, @decoupage-art1.

·4 years agoAre you serious? The whole invoice printout looks like, sorry ... "slapped together".
And the Messages field is not meant for that, I’d much rather pass along something else to the buyer there.
WHY is it always just tinkering around? As a commercial seller, you’re being reduced to a guinea pig - just tinker internally and then roll it out when everything is perfect, that would be a solution, wouldn’t it?

Where can I enter my LUCID number and the commissioned disposal company in my eBay account?
This morning I received a panic message from eBay (listings will be ended) and a promotional email (Interseroh+) but no indication of where to enter the relevant data.
The requirement has been in place for quite some time now!

·4 years agoNotice from an eBay employee:
Starting in May, eBay will likely ask sellers to store their LUCID ID (EPR number) in their eBay account. eBay will inform sellers in good time as soon as the relevant field for entering it is available.
In the meantime, you could fully provide your business details!

·4 years agoSince eBay apparently doesn't want to step in because of the extortionate prices for cooking oil and other food items, I'll ask the other way around:
ARE PRIVATE SELLERS EVEN ALLOWED TO SELL FOOD, EVEN IF IT IS PACKAGED?
I don't think any private seller complies with the legal requirements and disclosure obligations.

·4 years agobut now.... @community-team@ebay
this question has already been asked in several threads with the appropriate marking and there was no
answer... how much more time do you need?
miriam@ebay
*Update*
Hello @perfect-sally! Regarding the question of whether private sellers are allowed to sell food at all, we would like to respond as follows: Yes, they are. It is not generally prohibited for private sellers to sell food. It is of course true that special legal requirements and obligations apply to the sale of food (both private and commercial).
However, compliance with these legal requirements and obligations is primarily the responsibility of the respective seller. In the event of concrete indications of a clear legal violation, we will of course take the measures necessary to remedy the violation.
As already communicated in another post, we are, of course, following your reactions to this topic very closely. We continue to keep an eye on the situation, reassess it continuously, and will take action if necessary.
Best regards

·4 years agoYou keep hearing in the community that return labels for a valid return apparently often don't work. Sellers send parcel shipping labels that can't be tracked or Hermes labels that customers have to pay for themselves in the shop. That just can't be right. If ebay accepts Hermes shipping labels for returns, then reimbursement to buyers should be possible via ebay, because otherwise customers have to chase their reimbursement forever or don't get it at all. And with DHL labels, ebay should make sure that only parcel labels can be used and parcels are excluded. Or even better, only offer DHL parcels for valid returns, then the Hermes problem would be solved at the same time.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally! We (the Community Team) are currently looking more closely at the issue of return shipping and the process through eBay together with the shipping team, based on your reactions. I'll also pass along the points you raised.
In principle, the cost of return shipping, especially in the case of an item that differs from the item description or is defective, should always be covered by the sellers in advance, and there should be no surprises at the counter (provided label has not yet been paid for, etc.).
Thanks for the constructive suggestions for improvement! 🙂
