💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 07/09/22 at 2:00 PM
Hello everyone and ❤️welcome to the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
As we don't have a special topic this week, please feel free to post your general buying or selling questions here.
To help us answer your questions more quickly, we ask you to choose one question per post. Of course, you can write as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we'd love that!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 p.m. After that, it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to do our best to answer any questions that may still be unanswered – please allow us some time for this, as we often have to ask other colleagues for support in order to get the correct answer for you.
To post your question, click Reply in the bottom right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The eBay Q&A session format mirrors the format of our Community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in this order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and thus further down.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply wait until the next Q&A session.
Best regards,
Your eBay Community Team

·3 years agoWhy can international bidders buy from us if we have completely disabled international shipping? They just enter a package receiving service as the address and can once again take advantage of their buyer protection through Ebay.com, which we definitely do not want to offer. So always cancel the purchase. This is circumventing our decision about who we want to ship to. Can’t a setting be made for that??
patrick@ebay
Hello @passionepassato ,
Also for this question, I would get back to you as soon as more information is available.
But a really very good question.
Best regards

Hello @passionepassato ,
quick update on this, since I couldn’t find any case like that with you. Buyer protection should not apply at all, because the item was bought only via ebay.de and the protection only applies to ebay.de.
The item isn’t shown on ebay.com at all and was not purchased via ebay.com.
Since the delivery address is within Germany with the receiving service and let’s say the buyer is from the USA, he can probably start something via ebay.de, but the decision and/or return shipment is impossible for him, or at least difficult. It would also be clear that the item/listing was only domestic and not international.

·3 years agoHi Miriam, Patrick and Steffi.
Here’s the issue: we sell antiques, jewelry, and other collectibles in our shop.
Some of these items were made from bone / ivory. For example, a parasol with a handle made of bone. The inlays in furniture, or some of the accessories for sewing supplies...
Or, in the case of books, a bone ornament decorating the book cover. We source our goods from auction houses; a lot was also bought here on Ebay. For most items, CITES documents are available, usually for higher-value goods. For small brooches, whose value wouldn’t cover the cost of a CITES document, we only have the auction house details as proof. If you look on Ebay, thousands of items made of ivory are listed. Some idiot is stalking us as an Ebay member and reporting everything across the board. After years, they even managed to get one item ended. Fair enough, it does go against the rules. And the point that the others just haven’t been caught yet can be left out; the filter that now prevents us from listing bone items over 100 years old should surely be able to filter out the others just as easily. We feel ripped off !! Many people even enter Erbach, and that clearly indicates ivory goods; no dog bones are processed in Erbach. From miniature paintings to jewelry and decor, everything is represented on Ebay. Where exactly is Ebay’s enforcement of the rules there? Why are words like bone blocked for us and not for others? Why are words like horn blocked too. I even had to remove the word Vintage from hundreds of listings in order to be able to list them, even though they are made purely of silver ?!
Although I have proof of origin and CITES for the majority, private sellers and other colleagues are still allowed to list bone items. Items whose grain clearly identifies them as ivory ?!
Why is the word Vintage blocked when Vintage can be selected in the item specifics ?
And as for our shop problem since January, that I can’t edit it, nothing has happened to this day.
The new listing tool also won’t load. I have to list every item individually. It’s really getting on my nerves, after all you pay hefty shop fees every month. It would be nice if here on Ebay, if bone can’t be sold compared with other platforms and auction houses, then the rule would also be enforced rigorously. I see a competitive advantage there that Ebay apparently accepts.
You only have to enter bone to quickly see that the filter is useless, or is it meant to hassle individual members !!??
Best regards

Hello @passionepassato ,
Since your questions about this are very detailed and require a bit more effort, and the Q&A session has now ended, I will get back to you here in the thread once I have more information about it.
Best regards

Hello @passionepassato ,
I’ll address the first part of your post here, and regarding the eBay Shop issue, I’d ask you again to start a new topic where you can reply back to me as well. Just tag me, you know how that works 😉
eBay cannot determine whether the ivory in an item is already one hundred years old or not. In addition, for conservation reasons, it was decided to completely ban ivory on eBay. Also because more and more legal bans on the trade in ivory are being introduced. For example, in the UK the trade was generally banned. Therefore ebay.de reacts more strictly than required by law.
Criticism regarding the filters has also been passed on, and the teams are looking into it and may make adjustments.

·3 years agoHello everyone! 🙂
I had a very unpleasant case with a seller this week. I paid via Paypal and there was also a tracking number with Hermes. But then the seller didn't hand the package over to Hermes and only replied to messages with lies and excuses. I then opened a case, which was also decided in my favor.
His ratings suggested that this seller probably does this more often. To protect other buyers from such a fiasco, I naturally wanted to leave a corresponding review. But then a window came up with the following sentence:
"Unfortunately, this seller is now inactive and no longer eligible to receive feedback."
Am I right in thinking that the seller deactivated his eBay account to avoid a bad review? That's pretty brazen. Is there anything you can do about it?
Kind regards and thanks in advance for your reply. 🙂
patrick@ebay
Hello @datante ,
you’re absolutely right. This account no longer exists, hence the error message. That’s why you’ll also see the following message behind the name on the feedback profile: (No registered user)
So your seller didn’t disappear because of your rating, but eBay probably had to step in because of the same or similar experiences as yours.
Best regards

·3 years ago**bleep** The following case: Auction is shortly before the end. Time shows 0 sec. But then the screen flickers for the first time and 30 sec flashes up briefly...screen flickers 18 sec flashes up briefly...screen flickers 6 sec flashes up. Screen flickers and jumps to the auction end screen! Huh!!!! Expired means time=0 is the end - or who can reset the time in the background ???????
patrick@ebay
Hello @klame ,
of course not, something like that can also be due to other factors, was the app used? Server and routing issues. Which device? Was stable internet available or mobile data? Nobody can set or influence the time in the background, everything runs through systems.
I think the employees don't have time for such little jokes. As I said, nobody can do that, not even a seller.

·3 years agoAlso..no app...internet stable via PC and LAN. Take a look at this spectacle yourselves, then you'll know what I mean - in another case, I was outbid exactly in this "toogle-phase".
Something's not right here.... bidding agents ??!!

·3 years agoHello dear ebay team,
I tried to change my username. Apparently this did not work, since I can only log in with my old username.
As I understood it, after changing the username, a period of 30 days is needed before you can change the username again.
However, the first change of my username did not work either. Do you also have to wait a period of time for that?
Or is the username I entered already taken?
What could be the reason for the failed username change?
Please reply.
Kind regards
patrick@ebay
Hello @bigfoot_schuhe ,
There was no error message? Normally you would get a notice about that. In the account I couldn't see any attempt or a failure either. Was there no pop-up either?
Best regards

·3 years agoHello, the issue "ebay points in the negative" should already have been resolved by yesterday. Do now each individual have to write that it doesn't work for him or her? Thanks
patrick@ebay
Hello @tweed62 ,
I just fixed it manually for you, since your account still hasn’t been updated since yesterday. Now everything is correct again for you.
Best regards
