With the eBay Community Team & the Community Support Team
Hello everyone and ❤️-ly welcome to today’s eBay Q&A session!
Since we haven’t prepared a specific topic this week, we warmly invite you to ask your general questions here about buying and selling on eBay.
❗ Please make sure not to duplicate topics that already exist from other members. Check beforehand whether your question has already been asked.
🛠️ How the Q&A session works:
➤ One question per post
Please always ask only one question per post.
But you’re welcome to post several posts with different questions – that’s expressly encouraged!
➤ No new posts for existing questions
Please do not post follow-up questions or reminders about threads that already exist, such as
“I’m still waiting for a reply”
“My question hasn’t been answered yet”
as a new post.
We want to keep the communication clear and ask you to always stay in the existing thread so that no duplicate conversations are created.
➤ Q&A session period
⏰ The Q&A session is always open from 14:00 to 15:00.
After that, it will be closed for new questions.
Of course, we will continue to answer all open questions. Please understand that it may take a little while – especially if we bring in colleagues to help clarify things so we can give you the best possible answer.

·4 months agoHello Steffi,
a buyer explicitly selected an uninsured shipping method and also paid for it. At the same time, the listing offered a more expensive, insured shipping option, which the buyer consciously did not choose.
From my point of view, the buyer was therefore offered a secure shipping option. The decision in favor of uninsured shipping – and thus the risk associated with it – was made by the buyer themselves.
Against this background, I do not understand why seller protection would not apply in such a case. If buyers consciously choose an uninsured shipping method despite the availability of an insured shipping option, then in my opinion the risk should not be attributed solely to the seller.
In addition, I think it makes sense to clearly point out to buyers when selecting an uninsured shipping method that in this case there is no buyer protection.
many thanks for your reply.

Hello @thopami-0 and it's great that you're joining our Q&A session today! 🙂 Even if buyers consciously choose a shipping method without tracking, what matters for seller protection is that there is valid proof of shipment with tracking. Protection only applies if delivery to the specified delivery address can be verifiably confirmed. The reason for this is that eBay has to objectively check in the event of a dispute whether the item was delivered. Without tracking, this unfortunately cannot be reliably proven - regardless of which shipping option was chosen.
I completely understand that this doesn't feel entirely fair from your point of view, especially since you already offered a shipping option with tracking*. When someone consciously chooses a shipping method without tracking for lower-priced items in order to save costs, the associated risk is unfortunately part of that - and in the event of a dispute it may then be necessary to refund the amount without objection.
*Terminology adjustment: An insured shipping method additionally covers financial losses in the event of damage or loss, whereas a shipping method with tracking merely makes the transport status of the delivery traceable.
Best regards
Miriam

·4 months agoHello, last week @selina_b@ebay from the return 13-14295-61172
opened a case because the buyer didn’t want a return but rather a fix, and they did get that.
Now a week has passed and the case is still open. Customer service wanted to get in touch with the buyer. No idea whether that was successful. I did manage to get a message out of the buyer, though, and he confirmed that everything is fine and that he never wanted to open a return in the first place, but eBay didn’t offer any contact option because it was greyed out.
Anyway, it’s now absolutely high time that eBay finally closes the case.
