💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 12/11/2025 at 2:00 PM
With the eBay Community Team & the Community Support Team
Hello everyone and ❤️-ly welcome to today’s eBay Q&A session!
Since we haven’t prepared a specific topic this week, we warmly invite you to ask your general questions here about buying and selling on eBay.
❗ Please make sure not to duplicate any existing topics from other members. Check beforehand whether your question has already been asked.
🛠️ Here’s how the Q&A session works:
➤ One question per post
Please always ask only one question per post.
However, you can post multiple posts with different questions – that is explicitly encouraged!
➤ No new posts for existing questions
Please do not post follow-up questions or reminders to existing threads such as
“I’m still waiting for a response”
“My question hasn’t been answered yet”
as a new post.
We want to keep the conversation easy to follow and ask you to always stay in the existing thread so that no duplicate conversations are created.
➤ Q&A session time
⏰ The Q&A session is always open from 14:00 to 15:00.
After that, it will be closed for new questions.
Of course, we will continue to answer all open questions. Please understand that it may take some time – especially if we bring in colleagues to clarify things so we can give you the best possible answer.
✍️ Here’s how to ask your question:
Click “Reply” at the bottom right under this post
Enter your question
Click “Reply” between 14:00 and 15:00 to submit your question
ℹ️ Note on the format
We use the discussion forum format here, in which all posts appear chronologically.
The Community Team handles your questions in order and quotes the respective original question in the reply.

·9 months agoAnd the last question for today...
I keep getting recurring eBay messages with texts like these:
-“Listings with premium campaign strategy: Secure exclusive -75% on your campaign.”
-" Save 200€ & sell more - Start your ad campaign now with up to 200€ off."
In one of my categories, when I create a listing, it then shows me, for example: „Highly competitive category…. over 45% of the listings in Books are being promoted…“
I still haven’t understood what I actually get for the ad money I pay.
Question: How is there supposed to be better visibility and, above all, more sales when several million items in the named category are taking part in the ad lottery?
miriam@ebay
Hello @rest-fest! Depending on the amount you invest, you can also create premium ads and specifically optimize search terms so that your items become more visible for search queries that are relevant to you.
Of course, the success of your campaigns always also depends on the budget and the time you invest in careful planning and optimization.
A tip: Test different campaign strategies - for example premium vs. standard campaigns - and watch how visibility, clicks, and sales develop. In the Advertising Cockpit you’ll find detailed evaluations showing which campaigns work best for you.
If you’re interested, you could also express your interest in a free business consultation to discuss the topic with specialized employees 🙂.
Kind regards

·9 months agoAnd one more question about the ratings...
Since eBay now assigns the positive ratings itself, sellers also get rated whom I used to leave no rating for (about 20% of my purchases). I’d now have to change these ratings to gray or red.
Question: Are there consequences if, all of a sudden over the course of the year, a feedback profile shows around 40 to 50 neutral or negative ratings and nothing else, and does that make you a feedback Rambo and a forum case sooner or later?
patrick@ebay
Hello @rest-fest ,
Sellers can continue to take action against negative / inappropriate ratings at any time. In other words, the process generally does not change; as a seller you are not simply left unprotected. Whether you as a buyer want to proceed like this and rate everything gray and red is probably not ideal either. There are simply sellers who are annoyed that they were not rated, and buyers who do not want to rate, for different reasons, and are now facing the change.
Best regards
Patrick

·9 months agoHello everyone. I have a few questions too today...
Since the beginning of November, eBay has been issuing automatic positive feedback for sellers.
So far, every buyer was automatically given positive feedback when they left me positive feedback. Leaving feedback is not an obligation. I don't like working for free. Every feedback I didn't receive was a positive one from the “fault-finding” point of view. Now it's hard to tell what is genuine feedback and what comes from eBay. Checking that is not possible in terms of effort.
That's why I have largely stopped leaving buyer feedback.
Question: Can't eBay, alongside seller feedback, rate the buyer green as well? That would be the appropriate consequence, since buyer feedback is positive anyway. Then eBay would even have its own feedback system that is only positive.
patrick@ebay
Hello @rest-fest ,
The seller settings only apply, for example, when the buyer rates themselves. If the feedback is created automatically by eBay, the buyer is not automatically rated by you. In addition, the filters have also been set so that automatic feedback can be hidden or sorted by Most Relevant. For example, Most Relevant - self-created feedback is given more weight than automatic feedback and is therefore displayed further up, even if it is not the newest.

·9 months agoHello team! I sold an item and downloaded the shipping label. Now the buyer would like me to send the item to a parcel locker. Can I cancel the shipping label or, if necessary, change the address by hand?
samantha@ebay
·9 months agoHello @vita.doerrich
It is important that you always send your items to the address stored in the system.
If you send to a different address, you will lose seller protection.
A manual change is not possible, as the shipping details are stored in the QR code.
In most cases, after receiving the tracking number, the buyer can choose a parcel locker or drop-off location themselves.

·9 months agoHello everyone, now I have a question
I listed something again after years, purely to test and see how up to date my knowledge still is.
Now I have a bid on an item from a user whose profile has some impermissible feedback along the lines of "⛔ Negative! Buyer did not pay, so the purchase was canceled."
So I wanted to check the automatic cancellation due to non-payment.
https://www.ebay.de/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase
and with Edge I get the following screen
and with Firefox this one
I can't set any other days, not even four days.
Question: where did I go wrong, what do I need to change?
W11 and browser are each clean and up to date.
As I said, this is just a test for me right now; once the week is over, I still don't know how I'll proceed.
patrick@ebay
Hello @oskar_der_wikinger ,
Could you please try it once more via the Chrome browser. Normally you should have the option of choosing between 4 and 30 days. Otherwise, we would have to pass it on to the technical colleagues.
Best regards

·9 months agoHello dear @community-team@ebay
I have the following question today.
I have 400 items per month included through my Shop subscription, how does it work with listings (counted with variants)?
Example :
A listing with 60 variants, is it counted as 1 listing or as 60 listings?
Kind regards
Marc
patrick@ebay
Hello @mmstore74 ,
it is 1 listing - no matter how many variants there are. The item number does not change and remains the same in that sense & one.

·9 months agoHello,
I bought outdoor clothing that is a fake (synthetic fiber instead of down filling/no hologram/etc.) It arrived on 10/11/25, and I filed a complaint about the item (counterfeit) immediately with eBay the next day (11/11/25). Seller address Brazil, item came from China.
Today I received the notification that the complaint was rejected by eBay.
Filed another complaint against the rejection of the complaint.
How long does it take until I get a decision on this?
samantha@ebay
·9 months agoHello @sussu1
Thanks for reporting the item. Feel free to send me the item number so I can take a closer look.
What’s important is that you open a return so that you can get your money back. You can do this directly in your purchase view.
Best regards

·9 months agoHello Samantha,
I'm thinking about the return, but isn't something like that also a case for buyer protection?
samantha@ebay
·9 months agoHello @sussu1
Buyer protection works through the return. In other words, if the seller doesn't take care of your return properly, you can contact us regarding buyer protection and bring us into the loop.
Best regards
Samantha

·9 months agoAh, okay Samantha
whatever caring means. Since the goods are going to Brazil (the seller's address) I unfortunately can't print a label through eBay. I'll get the goods on their way and then wait.
Thank you very much
miriam@ebay
It's that time again - the Q&A session is open, today with @patrick@ebay, @samantha@ebay and me!

·9 months agoWhy can Hermes labels created via eBay still only be paid for with credit? There must be a valid reason why this works with DHL using credit and PayPal, but not with Hermes.
And I myself still prefer paying at the Hermes shop, and that should also be no problem for eBay to offer it that way.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally! This is a business decision, but I will bring your request up again at the appropriate place. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

·9 months agohow to deal with a dispute case with a payment service provider?
samantha@ebay
·9 months agoHello @tollermax
If it comes to the point that a buyer opens a dispute against you, you have two options.
Either you accept it and the buyer gets their money back, or you contest the dispute and send your explanation, preferably with documents, via our platform to the buyer's payment service provider.
You can find all the information on this topic again in detail here .
Kind regards
