🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 13/04/22
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don’t have a specific topic this week, please feel free to post your general buying or selling questions here. To help us answer your questions more quickly, we ask you to post one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we want you to!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to work on answering any questions that may still be unanswered – please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the bottom right-hand corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our Community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in this order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later in the chronology and therefore further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited for the next Q&A session.
Kind regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoI have a perhaps somewhat difficult topic: waste avoidance.
Over the last few years, I’ve placed several hundred orders with eBay sellers. Unfortunately, I had to realize that some sellers package things in downright absurd ways. Simple comics are shipped in a sealed plastic bag, then in a padded plastic envelope, then in a cardboard box that is sealed all around with plastic tape so thoroughly that you’d think the item was supposed to be shipped waterproof. And that’s just a small example.
I understand that these items are not packaged by eBay, but I think eBay has a duty to take more responsibility in this regard.
Are there any ideas at eBay to take a step in this direction?
Maybe even a timeline?
Best regards...
Thomas

Thanks for this suggestion, @hansdamv! eBay places great importance, alongside a focus on responsible consumption and the shift toward renewable energy, on a clear reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.
If you'd like to learn more in depth about our sustainability goals and the path there, our Impact Report might be interesting for you.
We can all contribute to a more resource-conscious way of dealing with nature through small steps. I'd be happy to pass along your feedback regarding avoiding packaging waste! Of course, you could also let these observations influence your rating 🙂.
Kind regards

·4 years agoHello
I left a review for an order around 6/4.
But to this day the status still shows "Review required" and when I click the "Leave review" link, I get a message saying that I have already left a review.
So it seems the status being displayed does not match reality.
Can someone from ebay help?
Thank you very much
Thomas

·4 years agoOh @hansdamv I have loads of that. I’m being shown tons of sales I’ve already rated as not rated, and the rated symbol is missing too. And rating again doesn’t work either .... in my sales cockpit I have tons of "unrated" sales.
Customer service’s comment: I should wait a bit and then rate them ....
Yeah right .... I’m blonde ...
miriam@ebay
Thanks for reporting what you've noticed, @hansdamv. It may be possible that an account synchronization could help here to record the feedback correctly everywhere. Has this behavior already been presented to our customer service? 🙂
Best regards

·4 years agoHello
Thanks for the reply.
No, I didn’t send that to customer service because I didn’t want to make a phone call for such a minor thing.
Should I do that, or should we leave it at that? Will the "account synchronization" be carried out at some point anyway?
Regards... Thomas

Just to make sure we don't miss anything, I'm passing the described behavior on for you, @hansdamv! If support can share any new insights with us, I'll let you know. Thanks for reporting it! 🙂
Update 19/4/2022: You can find the feedback from support here.
Kind regards

Hello @hansdamv! A quick update on this: It seems to be an error, and in the meantime a global bug ticket has been opened to take a closer look at the behavior regarding review submission.
Thanks again for your report, and hopefully a timely fix can be implemented so that you can use the review system as usual again! 🙂
Best regards

·4 years agoBetter time for the general eBay Q&A session?
Could you also schedule the Q&A session for a day and time when normal people can take part?
If an evening on a normal weekday doesn’t work for you, then e.g. Saturday morning - that would be doable for the majority, without neglecting work, school, or family...
Best regards

·4 years agoAha, so that means you don't go to flea markets or swap meets on Saturdays to expand your private sales and look out for more items?
steffi@ebay
Hello @de3trader, thanks for your feedback. Since the community team is active in the community from Monday to Friday, we can’t do the Q&A session on the weekend. But the community is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is therefore open around the clock for questions.

·4 years agoThere has been a problem for quite some time now that the cancellation policy is not displayed correctly for some commercial sellers. Unfortunately, I’m affected too. The current WB, created by Händlerbund, is stored in my settings, but an outdated one is shown in my listings. All attempts to edit it fail. Since this has been dragging on since January and I keep being put off, I’d really like to know when the technical problem that the technicians have been working on for months will be fixed.
miriam@ebay
Hello @kiekus and thanks for your question! Since I currently don’t have any further information regarding the ongoing challenges you’re experiencing with the display of your withdrawal notice, I’ll check internally once again. You’ll be notified as soon as the current status is known 👍.
Kind regards

·4 years agoSubject: Package is being returned because supposedly the address is incorrect or it wasn't picked up from the shop. The sellers would often resend it for payment of the shipping costs again. Why does eBay make it so difficult for these sellers to get the shipping costs that need to be paid again? Paying again through eBay isn't possible! Sharing bank details or a PP address isn't allowed.
So HOW can buyers get these shipping costs to the sellers without violating anything?
miriam@ebay
What speaks against simply relisting the item in such a special case and thus completing the transaction without any hassle and following the usual process, @perfect-sally? 🙂
Kind regards

·4 years agoQuick question - relist it, it gets bought again and you get charged fees again?? That can’t be the solution, right?
Ok, for eBay that adds up ....
perfect-sally
·4 years agoFor example, this speaks against not having the complete fees refunded! Okay, with a few items it's small potatoes but....and that, for example, with those sellers who (still) offer free shipping, more than the fixed fee is already gone if the purchase is aborted.
And I also think that buyers who actually do want the item don't want to have to get it through roundabout ways and buy again.
miriam@ebay
Okay, your arguments in that regard are of course understandable, nevertheless it is easier for everyone to understand if purchases are made again. The option to open buyer protection cases also expires if, for example, a non-received item has already been reported for the first delivery attempt and the item is supposed to be delayed on the second attempt.
We’re always happy when you share such constructive suggestions for improvement with us, and I’m very happy to pass on your feedback in that regard to share it with the responsible teams. Thanks @perfect-sally and @decoupage-art1! 🙂
Best regards

·4 years agoNo words .... and will we then get the fees fully refunded too?
perfect-sally
·4 years agoLately more and more buyers are showing up and complaining because sellers simply cancel the purchases after the auctions and, if the item has already been paid for, just refund the money. In most cases, it will probably be because the proceeds were too low for the sellers. According to the buyers, most of these items are then relisted shortly afterward either with a higher starting price or a buy-it-now price. When will eBay finally do something about this?
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally and thanks for the opening question 🤗! Sellers can cancel transactions under certain circumstances. However, there are shortcomings when sellers cancel purchases, the item is no longer in stock or is damaged, because that leads to a poor buying experience.
We monitor cancellation behavior very closely and take action when we determine that sellers are misusing this option. In our legal portal, we also explain the question once again "Am I bound to my offer even if the highest bid is far too low?"
Kind regards
Miriam
