Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 17/07/2024 at 2:00 p.m.
Hello everyone and ❤️welcome to the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don't have a specific topic this week, please don't hesitate to ask your (general buying or selling questions only, please not topics already covered by other members) questions here.
To help us answer your questions faster, we ask you to choose one question per post. Of course, you can write as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - we even encourage it!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 p.m. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will continue to make sure that all questions are answered that may still be unanswered — please allow us a little time for this, as we often have to ask other colleagues for support in order to get the correct answer for you.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The eBay Q&A session format reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and thus further down.
IMPORTANT: even though we use the discussion forum format, the Q&A session is separate and solely for individual members' questions only and not for starting discussions - please use our discussion forum.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited until the next Q&A session*.
Kind regards,
Your eBay Community Team

Unfortunately, I can't let your statement stand like that.
"Of course, policy violations are reviewed around the clock by our teams and systems."
It just doesn't help if reports then don't lead to the outcome that would be in line with the terms and conditions and legal requirements.
Just look at the issue of "China sellers" who are on the marketplace without any further details, while German marketplace participants are regularly suspended.
Just the fact that since February 2023 we have had to discuss the taxation of "digital products" domestically, and that in 2024 everything suddenly seems "new" on the topic.

Hello @ttd4it - we removed your first comment today in the Q&A session, as this is not a discussion format here - we took out your screenshot because we do not discuss moderation actions publicly, especially not in this format.
In the meantime, I know which thread you are referring to and, as recommended by @patrick@ebay, we advise you to file an appeal against your report. We will take a closer look at the issue behind the scenes once again, but regarding any measures we may have taken, we cannot be as transparent as you would like.
Best regards
Miriam

That’s it for today - thank you for the Q&A session. If any questions still come up that you’d like to clarify before the next eBay Q&A session, or if you didn’t have enough time left for another post / answer, please open a new topic and tag the eBay Community Team like this:
@patrick@ebay
@miriam@ebay
and @steffi@ebay for all community-related questions
Our Community Support Team is here for you too - starting today with new members @elke@ebay and @mia@ebay - you can find the announcement here: ✨We’ve got new members!✨
Kind regards

·2 years agoHello everyone, there’s been the "new" messages view for a while now. Am I dumb, or is there actually no search possible there? Then this view would be absolutely pointless if you can’t search for any term.
patrick@ebay
Hello @itec-systems ,
that is already known and has been passed on as feedback.
Best regards

Dear Miriam,
when will the back office start working in such a way that large parts of the community and the community can get the impression that reports of violations of the guidelines, your terms and conditions, and legal texts are actually being processed?
Unfortunately, one increasingly gets the impression that nothing is happening anymore and that instead the "censorship club" is moving in under the guise of "netiquette".
miriam@ebay
Hello @ttd4it - as generally as you’ve phrased it, it’s hard for me to understand what you’re referring to. Of course, violations of our principles are reviewed around the clock by our teams and systems.
However, compliance with the legal guidelines in listings is the responsibility of the sellers, and failure to follow them can lead to legal consequences outside the eBay marketplace.
Best regards

·2 years agoPROBLEM: EBAY'S IGNORANCE IN RESPONSE TO REPORTS
I was looking for Nintendo controllers and stumbled across this:
Item 405076296136
I had explicitly searched using the EAN number 0045496430528 for the original Nintendo controller, and now this fake junk was lurking there too.
Well, then I reported it to eBay and:
We reviewed your report and found that the listing does not violate our policies. This decision was made with the help of automation or artificial intelligence.
Well, KI stands for "crazy Inge," so I called and asked how such nonsense could happen... and I got a really good follow-up that reminded me of competence... NB: We're still talking about eBay here 😉
A short time later, though:
We reviewed your complaint regarding a decision we made on one of your content reports and have concluded that the content does not violate our policies.
What exactly is eBay doing here? Items that are blatantly low-quality knockoffs are dressed up with the EAN of an original item and also listed by brand as original Nintendo.
I don't want to blame the seller for that, they're just greedy for money or dumb, or both...
But the fact that eBay itself doesn't react properly even after specific hints about it, I think that's pretty brazen.
I am a customer, a buyer, and I want you to keep your listings clean. Especially when I take time out of my day to point out junk to you. Or am I not allowed to expect this minimum level of catalog hygiene here?
Purely out of curiosity: I really would like to know how one can make a decision like that.
PS: Just mentioning this in passing - your new layout, especially the UI for the images, is a terrible step backward and still brutally bad, simply dysfunctional.
miriam@ebay
Hello @de3trader and thank you for pointing this out to us. We will pass this on to the teams responsible for policy compliance and will take another look into your report behind the scenes to check whether our reporting process needs improvement in this situation.
Update 18.07.2024: We reviewed the listing again carefully, and since we never had the item in our own hands and it has not yet been sold or returned, we also have no way to verify the authenticity of the item. We would have to prove the allegation, but we also cannot find anything substantiated in your statements (by email and here).
Thank you also for the feedback regarding our new layout - I will pass that along as well.
Update 18.07.2024: Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us via the feedback form too; that way it goes straight to the project team.
Kind regards
Miriam

·2 years agoFollow up on the report again in the background and check whether our reporting process needs to be improved in this situation
May I “correct” that a bit?
"...check, HOW our reporting process needs to be improved in this situation"
And in my view, that’s very simple: handle the complaints properly! The incredibly quick response from @ttd4it apparently doesn’t come out of nowhere either. Trademark and EAN misuse is now a task for primary school kids; stuff like that only drives your customers away.
Feedback regarding our new layout - I’m taking this feedback with me too
I’d appreciate that; it significantly affects my buying experience on eBay.
Thanks, @miriam@ebay ❤️
