💬 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 18/06/2025 at 2:00 PM
Hello everyone and ❤️welcome to the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team & the Community Support Team .
As we don’t have a specific topic this week, please feel free to ask your general buying or selling questions here (please not topics already posted by other members).
To be able to answer your questions more quickly, we ask you to choose one question per post. Of course, you can write as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we’d like you to!
The Q&A session remains open until 3:00 p.m. After that, it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to make sure to answer all questions that may still be unanswered – please allow us some time for that, as we often need to ask other colleagues for support in order to get the correct answer for you.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click “Reply” between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The format of the eBay Q&A session mirrors the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in this order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and thus further down.
IMPORTANT: even though we use the discussion forum format, the Q&A session is separate and solely only for questions from individual members and not to start discussions - please use ourdiscussion forum.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you post your question directly in the community or simply wait until the next Q&A session*.

steffi@ebay
Also today, thanks to you for your questions and to @nina@ebay , from our Community Support Team.
If there are still any unclear points that should be answered by the next eBay Q&A session, or if there wasn’t enough time for another post / reply (or we accidentally missed a post), then please start a new topic and tag us like this if you need our support:
@miriam@ebay
@patrick@ebay
and @steffi@ebay also for all eBay Community-related questions
Our Community Support Team is here for you too, feel free to add us via your Community profile to your private friends list so you can see at a glance who’s online.

·1 year agoAh, and could you make the quoting system work sensibly here? Too often I see quotes like this:
Obviously many users are overwhelmed and unable to use the quoting function without errors and end up writing into the quote itself, which makes the whole thing really unreadable (who wrote what, what is the quote, what is the reply). Even mentors are rarely able to use it properly.
Unfortunately, this stifles meaningful discussions in the forum far too often.
PS: I get by myself with copy-paste and italics. Maybe your programmers could add a markup as a quote (similar to bold/italics, instead of general full quoting)?
steffi@ebay
The problem you're bringing up @de3trader , is really annoying and I can totally understand that the current quoting function often causes confusion - it happens to me more often too. It would certainly be a sensible improvement to introduce a marking function for quotes that works similarly to the options for bold or italics. This could help make discussions more structured and easier to read, and clearly distinguish between original quotes and replies.
Your suggestion to label quotes differently would certainly have the potential to make exchanges in the forum easier. Your workaround with copy-paste and italics sounds pragmatic at first, but a system-wide solution would of course be ideal. I will pass your idea on to Khoros so it can be checked how such a feature could be implemented in future updates or platform versions.
❤️ thank you for your valuable feedback and the constructive suggestion!

·1 year agohello dear eBay team, I know this is a topic (first scan on pickup/ shipping after the processing time has expired) that I already brought up last week, however today I spoke with our DHL account manager, who also found it a bit confusing that eBay (as the only marketplace in DE) does not treat the shipping note "The shipment data for this parcel were transmitted electronically to DHL by the sender." (which is the standard note for the synthetic scan after DHL pickup) as the first scan. As I was able to find out through research, dropping it off at the branch is counted as the first scan. That means we as a DHL major customer are systematically disadvantaged for having our parcels picked up. My question now is, how can we as a DHL major customer prove to you that we shipped the respective parcel on time within the processing time, if you as the marketplace ignore the corresponding DHL scan? Best regards
nina@ebay
·1 year ago@vilstein Hello. 🙂 We have already consulted with our shipping team about this. However, we have to refer you to DHL here and ask that the scans be made more reliably and earlier. A change of shipping provider might also be an option for you?
As an alternative on our side, unfortunately we can only recommend increasing the processing time.
Best regards,
Nina

·1 year agoThanks, I just saw that there will be a webinar later with eBay and DHL, followed by a Q&A session. I think someone there should be able to help me. Switching shipping providers is not an option because we get on great with DHL on all other marketplaces. I would wish that eBay would take on this issue, since I have really already read countless reports about this topic.

·1 year agoTOO LITTLE INFO - WAY TOO MUCH USELESS ADVERTISING
Could you please show expired offers immediately again when you click on them?
Instead, I’m now supposed to look at tons of useless ads even as a seller AND also click on “View original listing” separately.
Maybe as a buyer or seller one wants to quickly see what is included in the listing and how(?) But there’s definitely no one who wants to be plastered with even more cursed ads.
It was already annoying before, and now you’re taking it way too far! 😤
PS: If you’re going to show ads at all, why are you showing the seller items that are just like the one they’ve just sold? What IQ threshold does a marketing person have to fall below to expect another, similar sale to the seller(!) from that? Epic fail!
steffi@ebay
Hello @de3trader, we regret that the advertising is perceived by you as disruptive, especially when it is not relevant to you. Our marketing strategy aims to present offers that may be of interest to our users*innen. We are sorry if that was not the case for you. Your comment helps us think about this and reconsider our approaches.
Regarding the renewed display of expired items, I recommend the thread Expired auctions have not been accessible anymore as of recently - what's that supposed to mean, that's dumb! - this topic was discussed sufficiently and conclusively there.

The platform is trying to improve the user experience by increasing the visibility of active listings, but this has unintentionally reduced access to expired auctions.
Your feedback is important, and eBay is always striving to improve the user experience. That’s why I will now forward it directly to the responsible colleagues as well
Sorry, I can’t see anything conclusive there, except that eBay, with its final reference to the specialists, is once again opposing an explicit customer request (that’s not phrased in a harsh/mean way, that’s my actual impression).
Then please get in touch with the colleagues again and urge a quick solution: the flood of ads is one thing, but to withhold the original listing from both buyers and sellers... that’s a no-go!
Should be doable with half an hour of hacking; it hadn’t been made worse before either (that should still be in the repo, after all).
steffi@ebay
I’m sorry that you feel your concern has not received the attention you wanted at eBay @de3trader. I want to emphasize that your feedback is of great importance to us and that we strive to make our members’ experiences consistently positive.
eBay aims to create a platform that is fair and balanced for all members. The decisions we make are based on a variety of factors, including safety policies, user-friendliness, marketing strategies, legal requirements, and the protection of our community from potential risks. We understand that this can sometimes lead to frustration, especially when individual expectations are not met immediately.
Your feedback is an essential part of our continuous improvement process, and we appreciate your willingness to help us get better.

·1 year agoHello everyone
@community-team@ebay @steffi@ebay
My question today concerns the Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
I've been noticing for quite some time that very, very many sellers either only
...or only....
...have listed, never both together like this, for example
Kind regards
miriam@ebay
Hello @mmstore74 and thanks for reporting your observations! For you and the authorities, there is the option to report listings with missing information via the question mark on the item pages. In the case of missing GPSR information for certain listings, it may be necessary for us to hide listings from buyers in the EU and Northern Ireland, or for the items not to be purchasable in the EU and Northern Ireland. The recommendation remains to provide the manufacturer details as well as the hazard warnings, if required.
As with all regulations, our approach may change if the regulatory environment changes.
If a listing has to be hidden, you will be contacted by email (also in My eBay under "Messages") and through other relevant channels.
Are there specific categories where you notice this?
Best regards
Miriam

·1 year agoHello @miriam@ebay
yes, especially in my category (model making), but I’ve also seen it in other categories.
If I may ask a second question?
I keep noticing more and more that private sellers “drop out” at around 28 - 29 items sold and then suddenly continue selling again with a new account (almost identical account name and, above all, the same pictures)
in order, I think, to get around the limit of 30 sales. Has this ever been brought up?
Wouldn’t it be possible to detect this?
Why would a private seller need multiple accounts?
miriam@ebay
Thanks for the heads-up, @mmstore74 – I'll pass the observation on to the relevant teams. As part of our GPSR prioritization, the focus currently is more on product categories that are higher-risk and more relevant from a regulatory standpoint. However, we are keeping developments in this area under review.
Sure. If sales are made across multiple eBay accounts, the transactions or revenue are added together and, based on the total number of transactions or revenue determined in this way, it is decided whether eBay has to report the data to the BZSt under the PStTG. Related eBay accounts are determined using the information available to eBay.
Kind regards
Miriam

·1 year agoHello,
I urgently ask for help/support!
I sell commercially on eBay, and the acute issue arose with my listing 276570399718. Under ref. no. 2-194933555720, I am being accused of a violation of the „Principle on purchases and sales outside of eBay“. The listing is currently blocked.
According to the aforementioned principle, offering purchases or sales outside of eBay, including sharing direct contact information before an eBay purchase, is not permitted. I generally accept this; accordingly, I also act accordingly.
A thorough review of the auction for any such entry made by mistake was unsuccessful. I cannot find any link in this regard.
However, in the listing, in the section „General Terms and Conditions with customer information“, there are links that provide information on the privacy policies of some payment platforms. In my opinion, these links are (legally) required and by no means connected with buying/selling outside of eBay. A number of these links were already automatically deleted by eBay when the listing was created, while some were not.
So if the accusation of a violation actually refers to links that my legal counsel deemed necessary when drafting my terms and conditions, but which eBay deleted or overlooked during the deletion action at the time the auction was listed ???
Therefore my urgent request: Please specify in detail the exact point at which the alleged violation of the principle supposedly occurred. I am happy to make changes, but first I need to be able to see where action is required.
At this point, however, the next problem arises: I am told to edit the listing; however, I currently cannot find any place where I am even offered access to the „Edit“ function. So I am not able to edit it.
I sincerely hope for further guidance.
patrick@ebay
Hello @zakka2002 ,
in the item description, you simply are not allowed to include the data, such as your legal notice, etc.
There are preset settings for that, where you can store those details exactly there.
That is why the system flagged it and recorded it as unauthorized contact information. Simply leave those details out of the description.
Best regards
Patrick
zakka2002
·1 year agoHello Patrick,
Thanks for your statement.
Then I'll just delete the obviously questionable links... BUT HOW??? The article is currently obviously not accessible to me for editing!
patrick@ebay
Hello @zakka2002 ,
you probably edited it once before and that's why now you can only finish it and it has to be set up again.
Best regards
Patrick
zakka2002
·1 year agoHello Patrick,
Your assumption is not correct. Unfortunately, the restriction on the editing option has been in place from the start.
If it really has to stay that I need to post it again, then the term "questionable" is the very least I can think of,...
patrick@ebay
Hello @zakka2002 ,
As a rule, it is also the case that in the first instance, it can be edited or an objection can be filed. But since neither is possible anymore, unfortunately only the last option remains.
Best regards
Patrick

Alright, now we can get going 🤣
