💬Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 19/02/2025 at 2:00 PM
Hello everyone and ❤️welcome to the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team & the Community Support Team .
As we don’t have a specific topic this week, please feel free to ask your (general buying or selling questions, please not topics already posted by other members) here.
To help us answer your questions faster, we ask you to choose one question per post. Of course, you can write as many posts as you like in the eBay Q&A session - in fact, we want you to!
The Q&A session will remain open until 15:00. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will continue to make sure that all questions that may still be unanswered are answered – please give us a little time for this, as we often need to ask other colleagues for support to get the correct answer for you.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 14:00 and 15:00.
The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and therefore further down.
IMPORTANT: even though we use the discussion forum format, the Q&A session is separate and solely for individual members' questions only and not to start a discussion - please use our discussion forum as always for that.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community, or simply waited until the next Q&A session*.
Kind regards,
Your eBay Community Team & Community Support Team

·1 year agoHello and many thanks for your reply, dear Nina!
What about "chargebacks" or something like that (credit card insurance).
Is something like that possible with payments via Ebay?
Once again: thanks!
nina@ebay
·1 year ago@honni09 I’d recommend that you get in touch with your payment service provider.
If chargebacks occur, a payment dispute would then be opened. However, the handling of these disputes is not up to us.
Kind regards,
Nina

·1 year agoA question about the display of order revenue for digital items. eBay collects VAT for this, so correctly the order revenue is based on the item’s net value. However, the transaction fees deducted there (here -1.57) are the gross amount.
That seems pretty nonsensical to me, because my order revenue is higher than stated here; at this point the net fees (here 1.32) should be deducted, then my order revenue would be correct. (We are entitled to deduct input tax.)
Or am I seeing this wrong?
Best regards
miriam@ebay
Hello @it-schweitzer - we'll look into this for you and add the answer here במהלך the week. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!
Update 4:15 p.m.: We don't quite understand your question. According to our fee overviews, we always calculate the transaction fees based on the total amount (€14.90). The VAT collected by eBay (here the €2.38) is the tax on the sale of the item.
Here there is the fiction that the settlement of digital goods involves: the fees themselves are the consideration for the service provided by eBay to you as the seller, and this service in itself must be taxed. Therefore, of course, the transaction fee is gross.
I hope that helps you move forward 🙂.
Kind regards
Miriam

·1 year agoHello.
On 15.02. at 11:33, according to an eBay message, a reported puppy listing was supposedly removed. But it is still online. On 13.02. at 16:46, another one was supposedly removed, but it is also still online. Why, even though the maximum 24-hour update time has been exceeded several times over in each case, and eBay hopefully does not / not for so long follow up on a seller's objection in the case of prohibited live animals?
Thank you in advance
miriam@ebay
Hello @olavgo13eba! We'd be happy to look into this report after today's Q&A session as well - but I think in your situation it would be better to open your own topic for reports of this kind, then you won't have to wait until Wednesday and we can take a look at it promptly and give you feedback indefinitely.
Thank you and kind regards

·1 year agoHello dear team!
I’m not a nerd, so please excuse my ignorance in advance. Thanks!
Questions:
1. Is there any way to call up/create screenshots or views of an offer older than 90 days?
Background: purchase from a “commercial seller”; product defective after 5 months; seller does not respond to messages; how can the statutory warranty be enforced?
2. If there is the possibility of a chargeback on my side, is that even possible for purchases via eBay? Don’t my payments go to eBay first and only then to the sellers? Would a chargeback be “passed on”?
Thanks for your help!
nina@ebay
·1 year ago@honni09 Hey. 🙂 Unfortunately, it is not possible to create screenshots of offers that are older than 90 days. However, you can still find the details of the purchase in your purchases.
In principle, our buyer protection applies up to 30 days after receipt of the item. Anything arising after this time can only be resolved outside our platform.
Kind regards,
Nina

·1 year agoHello again.
The following report led on 17/2 at 3:21 p.m. to the incorrect decision by a member of the Bay customer service team that this offer of chicken hatching eggs does not violate eBay policies:
»Here the principle on species protection was definitely not selected, even though the eBay system falsely claims that it was, but rather the eBay policy on living animals, which prohibits any trade in animals. Aside from prehistoric crab eggs, no other eggs are permitted, so neither fertilized chicken eggs nor chickens are allowed. As early as 2004, de.news@ebay explained: »The trade in fertilized eggs is also prohibited« (quote from eBay, see community.ebay.de/t5/eBay-Mitteilungen/DER-GRUNDSATZ-ZUM-TIER-UND-PFLANZENSCHUTZ-WURDE-ÜBERARBEITET/ba-p/3847340). Incidentally, the living creature in the egg already has a heart and brain after three days. The ratings speak volumes. «
Please, why? That was already the second incorrect decision on this offer. The report is understandable, isn't it?
Merci in advance
miriam@ebay
Hello again, @olavgo13eba! We are looking into this report again as well. You know that it is possible to file an appeal against a review result - has that already been done?
Kind regards
Miriam
olavgo13eba
·1 year agoIf the link doesn't work because the error on eBay isn't fixed, you can't file an appeal, especially since Germans don't necessarily get along with English terms in German texts.

·1 year agoHello everyone,
some Chinese direct competitors only have a fake legal notice.
Does eBay check things like that? As a German seller, you are required to provide everything correctly, and the Chinese seller can apparently do whatever they want again.
patrick@ebay
Hello @itec-systems ,
since you have already opened a topic: The Chinese and their fake addresses about this, we would rather answer your concern there.
Best regards

·1 year agoHello! Please, is there a plausible explanation for why clearly prohibited items that are removed after reports are allowed to go back online later with the same item number? The latest example: the identical impermissible listing of a living dog, which was removed after a report at the end of December (see 2-189103761786), reappears in February with the same item number and was removed again after a report in mid-February. If prohibited items are unfortunately allowed to go online thanks to eBay, then at least after a report decision they should be automatically prevented by software, so that they do not have to be reported again and again, the search results are not manipulated over and over, and no unnecessary server capacity is wasted.
Thanks for a plausible explanation
miriam@ebay
Hello @olavgo13eba! We recognize your recurring criticism. If an item has been reported and we have to hide the listing, our sellers generally have the option to revise the listing in compliance with our principles and then relist it.
However, if we determine that our principles have been violated multiple times, further consequences may follow, up to and including permanent account suspensions.
Kind regards
Miriam
olavgo13eba
·1 year agoThanks, but nothing was edited there … identical means without changes. So, any idea why eBay allows that? With living dogs, for example? I can gladly provide PDFs if eBay can't verify that.

·1 year agoHello everyone
lately I've been missing the item location filter....is there a special reason
it's very tedious to scroll through thousands of items depending on the category
it would probably be helpful not just for me if you (ebay) reactivated this filter
best regards and have a good day...André
nina@ebay
·1 year ago@ohmpol Hey. 🙂 Could you please send us an example item number where you can’t see the item location filter? We’d be happy to pass this along to our specialist department for review once again.
Kind regards,
Nina

·1 year agoHello Miriam,
I have the following question.
Shipping costs for a purchased item have already been paid; now I would like to pick up the item directly from the seller? How can the shipping costs be refunded and the QR code for pickup be generated?
Thanks and best regards
Stefan
Order date:18 Feb. 2025 Total amount:EUR 203,20 Order number:15-12721-72822

miriam@ebay
Hello @skr_breschi! Unfortunately, shipping costs can no longer be adjusted afterward, and the QR code is only created if the item was listed with a pickup option.
Since you have already made the payment, I would recommend that you issue a partial refund so you get back the shipping costs you overpaid. It would be important to document the process well via eBay messages. If that’s not an option for you, a cancellation of the purchase would also be possible, and your seller could relist the offer with the correct shipping options.
Kind regards
Miriam
