🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 23/02/22
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don’t have a special topic this week, please feel free to ask your general buying or selling questions here. To help us answer your questions more quickly, we kindly ask you to ask one question per post. Of course, you’re welcome to post as many messages as you like in the eBay Q&A session - in fact, we want you to!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will still do our best to answer any questions that may remain unanswered - please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and therefore further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community, or just waited until the next Q&A session.
Kind regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoIs it allowed, or should you, in the business details by now, state that you are registered with the Lucid packaging register, or would that count as unfair competition?
patrick@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally ,
I'll take a look at this after the Q&A session and provide an update here with another reply.
Best regards

Hello @perfect-sally ,
Here’s an update. Such an obligation to provide this information is not предусмотрed by law. We cannot provide legal advice on whether stating it anyway would be a violation of competition law.

·4 years agoMy question is about purchases of 40 items or more.
And no, it’s not that rare with us for people to sell things like craft supplies.
WHERE is the problem? Doesn’t Ebay want customer and seller satisfaction?
If a buyer wants to buy 98 items from a seller, and the seller offers combined shipping, meaning only 1x shipping costs for the buyer.
As soon as the buyer clicks buy, the purchases are split into 40 purchases and the buyer is still charged additional shipping costs despite the offered combined shipping.
As a buyer, you feel more than taken for a fool, especially since these purchases are not listed as 1 purchase!
As a seller, I’m annoyed that the combined shipping offered by Ebay is bypassed and I’m charged additional fixed costs as well as shipping commission.
Of course I fully refund the shipping costs to the annoyed buyer, but I’m the one left footing the bill for the commission and fixed costs as the seller!
I’m simply asking for a logical explanation of why this is handled this way.
Normally, shouldn’t such large purchases be shown as combined shipping so as to save on shipping and fixed costs?
Many buyers unfortunately back out beforehand because Ebay has problems with such purchases of 40 items or more.

Hello @decoupage-art1 ,
a question we've already answered several times in the community and also in the Q&A session. At the moment, the limit at eBay is 40. We also don't have any further details yet on whether this limit will be raised in the future. We've already shared criticism & feedback regarding this issue internally several times.
This limit has always existed in this form. So I can't promise you anything or give you any assurance whether there will ever be a change to this.

·4 years agoSorry, I'm at a loss for words!
The buyer relies on the offered combined shipping, and yet shipping costs are still charged to them!
And for me as the seller, additional unnecessary costs ....
And if this limit has always existed, then wouldn't it be time to change something? Or rather, where can a seller/buyer read that in this case combined shipping is overridden and additional costs are incurred?
patrick@ebay
Hello @decoupage-art1 ,
You can have the fee refunded through customer service if it was incurred by you due to combined shipping.

·4 years agoHello @patrick@ebay ,
is this limit documented anywhere ?
I can't find anything about it in eBay's help.
patrick@ebay
Hello @voli-maus ,
Unfortunately, you won’t find much about that on the pages either. After the Q&A session, we will point out that this needs to be improved, because this question comes up repeatedly at different intervals. However, there has still been no improvement so far.

·4 years agoThere’s also a lot of confusion here about the double display of VAT after something has been purchased. But not with all sellers registered outside the EU; it seems that eBay doesn’t have a uniform policy here?

Thanks for the heads-up, @Anonymous! We have been monitoring the discussion continuously since the EU legal change came into force, and after the Q&A session we’ll take a closer look at the issue again.
eBay is now generally legally required to collect and remit VAT to the authorities for certain transactions. It can happen that buyers are occasionally charged the wrong VAT or have to pay it twice, e.g. because the shipping provider or customs collects it again. It’s possible to request a refund of the VAT, and we often see in the forum that those affected are already being referred to the correct help page: Paying taxes on eBay purchases.
We appreciate you sharing your observations with us! 🙂

·4 years agoThanks for your reply. Customs basically collect it, even if everything was done correctly by the seller and buyer and this OSS number is included. Maybe it just needs to get going first so that the German state gets the taxes it is entitled to.
Unfortunately, I keep having to notice that the Chinese or people from Hong Kong or other sellers don't even have a legal notice, false information, no phone number, and returns within Germany are also not possible, all things that are required, but eBay apparently tolerates it!

And who refunds it?

·4 years agoCould it be that something is wrong with message delivery again? Customers are saying they didn’t receive my messages, and the notification that the money was paid out doesn’t come through either, or comes very late.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally and thanks for the opening question! 🙂 Unfortunately, our tech team has a hard time with such broad "claims" (we have already tried several times to pass on such general assumptions). We need the order number, the exact wording of the message, and when it was sent. Those are all pretty sensitive pieces of information, maybe it would be better to report them via our customer service?
Please feel free to let us know via the Community as soon as you have sent the email; we can then pick it up and follow up on the issue on our side as well 👍.
Kind regards

·4 years agoI always struggle too when buyers claim that messages supposedly aren’t arriving. That’s why I always send a copy to my email program, and all of them arrive there — albeit delayed, sometimes very delayed. I don’t know either whether what the buyer concerned is now claiming is true. I just notice that a few buyers don’t respond at all, even though it’s about their items.
miriam@ebay
If there are concrete suspected cases, we'd be happy to check whether the message was basically delivered. What we can't do, however, is urge your customers to reply to read messages. Of course, it's understandable that it's annoying when no responses come in.
I'll take another look at the observations regarding the eBay messages arriving late 😉.

·4 years agoWhen I click on the DHL tracking number on the item to track the shipment, I have to enter the tracking number in the field again at DHL so that the tracking history becomes visible. With Hermes, you go straight to where you want to go. What is that due to?
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally! We have no influence on the process of retrieving shipment tracking on the shipping providers' websites, but thank you for reporting your observations and we will pass them on 👍.
*edit*: we are currently checking internally whether direct linking to the shipping provider page is also possible for DHL tracking numbers 🙂.

·4 years agoHow does it work with synchronizing ebay accounts? It was reported in the community that a TE went to customer service because his sales had gone through the floor. He was then told that his account needed to be synchronized again and that this should happen at least 2 x a year. Why doesn’t ebay do this regularly with all accounts? Do you have to request this from customer service?

·4 years agoHow does this actually work when a buyer purchases an item and chooses Hermes Shop2Shop as the shipping method, and then does not pick up the item on time and opens a case for an item not received? According to tracking, the item was delivered to the shop, but the buyer does not pick it up and of course the item gets sent back. The seller shipped it the way the customer chose, but the customer opens a case for an item not received. The seller naturally wants to refund only once the item is back and still takes a loss if they offered free shipping, since you can only refund the full amount. Will the case be decided against the seller and the refund issued immediately before the item is returned?
patrick@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally ,
that's similar to your question from last week. Subject: 🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A on 16/02/22 If, as the seller, you can provide proof that the buyer did not pick up the item, why should eBay then decide against you as the seller? The shipping status will also note the return process by the shipping provider. So that eBay can see what's going on and act accordingly.

·4 years agoWell then, I’m curious and will just leave it to chance in this case. Let’s see if eBay really sees it that way and decides in my favor.
The buyer will then receive their refund from me once the item is back.
