🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 24/11/21
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don’t have a specific topic this week, please feel free to ask your general buying or selling questions here.
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to make sure we answer any questions that may still be unanswered - please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The eBay Q&A session format mirrors the format of our Community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the reply appear later chronologically and thus further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited for the next Q&A session.
Kind regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoHello team,
once again a few new and old questions: I know there are questions in here that have already been asked aaaber still haven’t been resolved or finally answered.
Print purchase details still only comes out in landscape format even though the printer is set to portrait. No changes are possible while the “print window” is open. By now this has been going on for weeks and nothing is happening.
Listing a similar item usually means the “old” description is gone. If this keeps up, this feature is unfortunately useless. Known issue?
Personal account: accepting the Seller Cockpit Pro keeps popping up and can’t be dismissed. For 2 weeks now and nothing happens!
Recently people in the community have been hearing more often that sellers apparently provide a wrong tracking number and, if tracking is done, the item was delivered somewhere far away from the original recipient. If the buyer then opens a case because of an item not received, that case is immediately closed because there is a tracking number. That just can’t be right. What is ebay doing about this? Why doesn’t buyer protection apply here?
Why are so many coronavirus tests from private sellers slipping through lately and being allowed to be listed? And how can it be that the same user can keep listing tests again and again when the others were deleted beforehand? Happened several times like this.
Unfortunately, there has still been no response to this question after 2 weeks either:
General question about international shipping with DHL (also of personal interest to me)
you keep reading here that you shouldn’t or mustn’t ship to certain countries via DHL because ebay doesn’t accept the tracking number or can’t track it all the way to delivery.
Here people are repeatedly advised to ship via UPS or FedEx to be on the safe side.
How exactly does this work?

Negative buying experience!
There are actually two questions: purchase cancellation and the annoying issue of "combined shipping"

Not that I know of

Hello @karalalz ,
thanks for your note; I can’t really see an actual question from you. In the linked topic, which was created today, it can be seen that there has not yet been any response from our side. We’ll be happy to take a look after the round of questions.
Best regards

·4 years agoI’ve already read the question about “unauthorized/unwanted” or otherwise aborted purchases, so that’s why I’m asking.
eBay still hasn’t changed the terms and conditions in that regard.
§ 7 Offer formats and contract conclusion
It’s something different from an order! This concerns private sellers, but you want to get rid of them anyway!
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally and nice to hear from you again! Let me number these again, then it’ll be easier to pick up the specific points afterward.
During my eBay time (3+ years), the item description was always empty when creating similar listings. I’m checking internally again right now > update to follow.
Update 26/11/21: We would need screenshots from you here so we can understand which listing tool you’re using. At the moment, the issue can’t be reproduced by the tech team. Maybe you’d like to provide these in the next Q&A session or explain the issue to our customer service so that a bug ticket can be opened if necessary.
Private account: Accepting Seller Cockpit Pro keeps popping up and won’t go away. For more than 2 weeks now and nothing has happened!
We’ve opened a ticket for this and are still waiting for feedback. If there’s already an update, I’ll add it here. At the moment, however, we don’t have any further reports.
Lately, people in the community have been hearing more often that sellers apparently enter a wrong tracking number and, if tracking is available, the item is delivered to a place far away from the original recipient. If the buyer then opens a case for an item not received, this case is closed immediately because there is a tracking number. That can’t be right. What is eBay doing about this? Why doesn’t buyer protection kick in there?
It’s important that buyers contact us and file an appeal so the cases can be reviewed thoroughly again.
Why are so many coronavirus tests from private sellers slipping through lately and can be listed? And how is it possible that the same user can keep listing tests over and over again if the others were deleted beforehand? Happened multiple times.
Thanks for the heads-up, that shouldn’t happen. I’ll inform the responsible department and would appreciate example item numbers.
Update 26/11/21: I replied in a bit more detail on this topic. The filters that have been set up work and scan the active listings on the site. From listing an item until it is removed, a little time sometimes passes, so there are always some active listings visible. Every seller (private or business) is responsible on eBay for not offering any prohibited items (terms and conditions); that’s a legal principle. Repeated violations have far-reaching consequences. At the moment, we don’t see any problems with international tracking via DHL. If any come up here in the forum, please tag @patrick@ebay and me so we can take a look at the specific case and discuss it with our teams. Thanks a lot! 🙂
We appreciate your genuine interest and the reports of what you’ve observed.
Best regards

·4 years agoOn 5.
I can’t give example item numbers because the listings have been deleted. I don’t save them; I just see the same seller with maybe a slightly lower price but the same item, and sometimes multiple times over.
It’s getting out of hand in the last few days with the coronavirus tests from private sellers 😞
miriam@ebay
We’re grateful for every tip here, @perfect-sally - you’re also welcome to report things directly from the item page. In principle, we run our own programs and filters that should ensure only approved, commercial sellers are allowed to offer coronavirus tests, and strict rules apply.
Further information about the current restrictions on selling in connection with COVID-19 can be found here.
Best regards

I think it's more important that eBay adapts to PP's ancient terms, WITHOUT a user having to file an objection extra!
miriam@ebay
We agree with you here, @Anonymous! Buyer protection cases should already be decided correctly at the first stage. For this reason, we recommend buying shipping labels through eBay so that they are stored directly and the shipment tracking is updated automatically. Most case decisions are made automatically based on the data available, and unfortunately mistakes do happen occasionally, especially when our system is knowingly deceived.
We will pass on your critical user feedback, including current examples, internally once again so we can work on our processes. Feel free to @-mention us further in topics if our support is needed in such cases 🙂.
Best regards

·4 years agoFor this reason, we recommend buying shipping labels through eBay....
Is that supposed to be a joke? on eBay you can at most still get shipping slips for EU shipping. Outside of that, there’s nothing via eBay at all.....not for a very long time anymore.
But that wasn’t the cause of the question, rather if users buy and sellers upload any tracking numbers to deliberately deceive buyers, then the system should be able to recognize that this is not the tracking number for the specified address. You end up with a huge mess and have to file an appeal and wait again.
miriam@ebay
I’ll pass your criticism straight on after today’s Q&A. Thanks for that, @perfect-sally!
Best regards

It has been claimed again and again that DHL shipments, let’s say to the USA, are not accepted by eBay, or rather that the tracking number causes problems, and that you should send there via UPS or FedEx. Of course, this also applies to some other countries outside the EU.
But for many sellers, it’s just very cumbersome to send a few parcels a year via UPS or FedEx. I’d first have to look around here to see where they’re based and how it works. Not to mention the prices.
I need a clear statement on whether it’s possible without problems to use DHL for such countries because I don’t want any trouble later if a parcel takes longer in customs or is in transit longer and you may not be able to track the shipment until delivery.

that mainly had something to do with payment via PP - DHL (and other) shipments were possibly not recognized there ... officially there was the point that the online-viewable signature screen was only required starting at XY euros or dollars, but for quite a few it was already the case even for minimal amounts that this proof had to be provided, otherwise PP simply refunded directly
how it is right now with payment via eBay 🤔 ... you can also open a case directly with PP

·4 years agoThe legal situation in the USA is different from here when it comes to proof. So I would assume that support in the USA would assess that accordingly.
miriam@ebay
Thanks for the extra info on this @hasjana and @perfect-sally - could you share concrete links to topics where affected users are reporting this with us? So far, I haven’t noticed anything about this unfortunately. 🙂

·4 years agoThere are no specific topics for that, but more than one expert has already said that you shouldn't / aren't allowed to ship to certain countries via DHL because eBay apparently doesn't recognize that or there were problems with tracking.
