🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 26/01/22
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don't have a specific topic this week, please don't hesitate to post your general buying or selling questions here. To be able to answer your questions more quickly, we ask that you post one question per post. Of course, you can post as many posts in the eBay Q&A session as you like - that's even what we want!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed for any further questions. Of course, we will still make sure to answer all questions that may still be unanswered - please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and therefore further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we would be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited until the next Q&A session.
Kind regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoHas it made it to the "upper" eBay levels by now that the forced switch to the "New Payment Processing" has brought many disadvantages for private sellers? A lot of private sellers have stopped selling on eBay because it has become unattractive for them.
Here are a few points that regularly lead to dissatisfaction:
- commission on shipping costs
- "buyer protection" that encourages free shopping
- seller notes on specific cases are ignored
- insured shipping is not worth it for 1,- EUR items...
- the number of eBay bugs that additionally hurt selling.
- Many goodwill arrangements between seller and buyer are punished by eBay, since fees cannot be adjusted afterward.
- eBay gets far too involved in the sale between seller and buyer. (Sellers do not want to be patronized.)
When will it be considered to allow the "old, tried-and-tested" payment methods again?
miriam@ebay
Hello @rekajoto and thank you for sharing your feelings here! eBay chose payment processing in order to offer everyone an improved buying and selling experience. It is an important part of the redesign of our marketplace. At the same time, this results in a broader selection of payment and payout options, which may be expanded further in the future. With buyer protection, we provide security and trust on eBay and ensure positive shopping experiences. But we also know how important it is for online sellers to be protected, especially when they provide the best customer service, and in the event of occurrences that cause problems and are outside their control > seller protection. As a platform operator, we are always striving to find a balance between the different needs.
We take your feedback on board and pass it on to decision-makers on an ongoing basis; the criticism of payment processing, especially from private sellers, also reaches the “upper echelons,” as you wrote. The opinion of all eBay members is important to us so that we can continuously evaluate whether we are on the right track. I have also passed on your feedback and we appreciate your honesty 🙂.
Kind regards

·4 years agohello
today I got the message that all shops will be forcibly switched to the new design on 30/3/22!
same thing again here too!! why do they do that???
I just took a look at the new design!
- no more custom individually created pages
- there are subitems in INFO like PRIVACY POLICY, LEGAL NOTICE, SHIPPING, RETURNS and WARRANTY
- the characters for the privacy policy are TOO FEW! no policy can be added here as TrustedShops requires
- the page names CANNOT be changed!!!
- what does a Returns, Shipping or Warranty page have to do with the shop homepage? everything about that is already included in the ITEM DESCRIPTION and in the OFFER ITSELF
- all links in my listings link to individually created eBay pages - are they all DEAD then?
- does that mean we all have to change all 2500 items in the description since no links will work anymore?
- the new subpages should be changeable in name
etc etc etc
regards
miriam@ebay
Hello @french-power-tuning! I've already read your thoughts on the shop design topic:Update on the new packing slip and invoice documents. One thing right away: using this link you can edit the framework conditions (shop header and links on the item page); later today I'll gladly reply in more detail to address all of your questions.
The new shop design generally offers many advantages and is more up to date. We are aware that it naturally also brings changes with it. For this reason, we are following your reactions here in the community very closely and are happy to engage with you 🙂.
*Addition*
If legal information and / or product data sheets were stored on the (old) eBay shop pages and linked to from the item description, that is currently not yet possible in the new shop format. We ask sellers who are affected by this to wait until the end of February before switching to the new shop format. A similar functionality will be created shortly. The item descriptions can still be individually customized via HTML.
Best regards

·4 years agoHi,
how can it be that I have an EBAY order number (i.e. I placed an order)
but it is visible neither to me nor to the seller.
And how do I get my money back, which I already paid by bank transfer?
miriam@ebay
Hello @reimi23! Could you please send me the order or item number so I can take a closer look at the situation for you?
Occasionally, for various reasons, the transaction with payment via instant bank transfer cannot be completed. You should see the money back in your bank account in just a few days, and we recommend that you make the payment again should you receive a payment reminder 🙂.
*Update 27/1/2022*
The item in question is now shown in our system as paid and has already been shipped 👍.

·4 years agoThe following situation comes up several times every week:
A buyer purchases several items from a currently running sales promotion (discount), and the eBay system, as usual, only adds up the individual shipping costs.
If the buyer now clicks on “Request total” as intended, they are shown a message saying that “the SELLER does not offer combined shipping because the item is discounted”.
Some buyers buy anyway and get annoyed about the postage rip-off “by the seller”,
some buyers ask how the wrong shipping costs can be corrected
and some buyers react by canceling the purchase (probably most of them, I don’t even notice).
My question: why on earth does eBay not allow “Request total” for items from a sales promotion?
In principle, this problem could also be solved by eBay refunding the fees proportionally in the event of a subsequent refund (“shipping discount”).
That’s actually what I would expect from a decent businessman/business partner….
miriam@ebay
Hello @duckburg and thank you for explaining your observation to us so thoroughly. On the topic of "request total", we in the Community Team are currently collecting your feedback so we can pass it on to the responsible product teams, so that the processes can be further optimized.
I’d like to have your case looked into more closely and get back to you here once there is an answer to your question of why a total cannot be requested for items from sales promotions, as I do not want to make assumptions. You’ll be notified as soon as we can say more about it 🙂.
Kind regards
Miriam
miriam@ebay
Hello @duckburg! It is actually the case that no total amount can be requested if you have already offered a discount for these items. As you already wrote, this is also shown to the buyers in the shopping cart.
For you, one option would be to set up shipping discounts for buyers who purchase multiple items from you. You already offer combined shipping, and then you can set up rules in your shipping settings that are automatically applied to the shipping costs when multiple items are purchased. This means the shipping discounts are automatically deducted, and you don't have to send an adjusted invoice again.
As a rule, shipping discounts should work in addition to item discounts, provided they are defined correctly in the shipping settings. Feel free to open a new topic in the Community so you can discuss more extensively with like-minded people, and @-mention us if you still have any questions about it 😉.
I have taken your feedback from practical experience, prepared it, and passed it on internally.
Best regards

·4 years agoIt is reported again and again that payments by instant bank transfer were not successful and that buyers have to pay at least a second time. The amounts are apparently debited from the account, but do not arrive at eBay. When will eBay finally get this problem under control and find the error or errors?
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally and thanks for your question! We also see that there are currently isolated reports like this in the community and are making sure that they are passed on to the right places at eBay.
Behind the scenes, we are already reviewing specific incidents with Adyen. We can't say any more about that at this point.

·4 years agoHow can it be that eBay suddenly requires a new / different bank account even though payments have already been paid out to the existing one? Users are reporting that, all of a sudden, payouts can no longer be made to the account according to eBay.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally, we’d need to look at the specific cases here, as we can’t give a blanket answer to that. If we believe there are problems with a bank account, we ask for additional information; this can happen for security reasons, for example.
Feel free to mention us in relevant topics if we should take a closer look 👍.

·4 years agoIt is reported again and again that the shipment tracking via ebay does not match the actual status. In some cases, packages have been delivered for days but are not recorded as delivered on ebay. What is the reason for this?
miriam@ebay
We depend on the transmission from the service providers via our interface and can only display the information that is made available to us, @perfect-sally. Our teams are instructed to always check shipment tracking directly on the shipping provider's website as well, so that nothing gets overlooked 👍.
Kind regards
