🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 27/04/22
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for your participation in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
Since we don't have a special topic this week, please don't hesitate to post your general buying or selling questions here. To be able to answer your questions more quickly, we ask that you post just one question per post. Of course, you can post as many entries in the eBay Q&A session as you like - in fact, we'd love that!
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed to further questions. Of course, we will continue to make sure that all questions that may still be unanswered are answered – please give us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective reply. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and thus further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you post your question directly in the Community or simply wait until the next Q&A session.
Best regards
Your eBay Community Team

·4 years agoHello everyone and especially @miriam@ebay,
another week has passed since I brought up this topic again at Wednesday Q&A.
Just as a reminder, the corresponding question thread on this topic was already opened in the forum at the beginning of February - so there was really enough time for the relevant department at Ebay to deal with the issue once and for all!
I’m going to ask a provocative question now:
Does Ebay really not care at all that from 01/07/22 we sellers will no longer receive any proof for international shipments and have absolutely no influence whatsoever over Post/DHL scan processes, and that this will therefore lead to unjustified defects piling up ???
The problem is already showing now, as we sellers are accumulating defects that are due to the fact that although we upload the tracking number in time, the shipping provider does not scan the parcels at the parcel center in time!
For this kind of defect, there is even a separate column in the defect reports (for whatever reason?).
And every time I ask myself: And how is that my fault now???
Exactly, I myself can’t do anything about it - but Ebay counts the defect against me as the seller, and I end up at a disadvantage if I lose my good service status!
So once again, my question in concrete terms:
How does Ebay view the new procedure of Post/DHL as of 01/07/2022, and how will we sellers be protected against unjustified defects?
Regards
Andy

Hello @imperial-modellbau ,
I'll be so bold as to answer for Miriam.
eBay is already in contact with the shipping providers and we are currently still waiting for feedback. We are sure that information will follow in good time.
Best regards

·4 years agoWhy are these Chinese sellers allowed to list goods of this size without a VAT ID, while German shops or businesses get blocked for it? From a BW:

Thanks for your question, @diema9! Please note that different legal requirements may apply if the item location is outside Germany or, in the listings you linked, in China.
What matters to us is that sellers comply with their item location information and that our policy on specifying the item location is followed 👍.
Best regards

·4 years agoWell, I’m assuming these are fraudulent offers.
But more fundamentally: why don’t Chinese sellers have to comply with German requirements for selling on eBay? I’m talking about cancellation rights, domestic returns, complaints about defective items without stalling tactics?
miriam@ebay
Hello @diema9! Please report any violations of general principles directly via the item page or here so we can review them as quickly as possible.
As an eBay employee, I’m not allowed to provide legal advice, so I recommend that you direct your questions to a legal advice center. At eBay, you are protected by our Buyer Protection if a transaction does not go as desired and an item does not arrive or arrives defective, or does not match the item description.
If the item location in the listing is in China, it must also be returned there.
Kind regards
Miriam

·4 years agoAnother try!
Hello Patrick,
I hope you had a nice vacation!
Sorry, but we’ve been hearing that for months now!
The fact is, the main shipping provider for international shipments from Germany to the world is, quite simply, the post office, or DHL.
All the others either don’t deliver to all countries or their prices are way beyond reasonable!
So Ebay should really be dealing primarily with the post office/DHL.
And what they plan to do, or what will be the case from 01/07/22, has already been known for months; there’s no need to wait for feedback.
I honestly can’t imagine that the post office/DHL would bake a special bun just for Ebay!
So it’s up to Ebay to say how this will be handled from that point on!
patrick@ebay
Hello @imperial-modellbau ,
probably not, but what I meant is more the exchange itself. eBay itself is not the reason or the cause for this change happening. Rather, it also has to adapt accordingly and take the new processes into account. And that would not only apply to Germany, but also to the EU, etc. So it’s also about all directions and languages, where everything isn’t simply already there as a ready-made solution 😉
So far, as the Community Team, we can’t provide any further new info on this yet.
Best regards
Patrick

·4 years agoI have a topic that might be a bit tricky: avoiding waste.
I already brought up this topic in one of the recent Q&A sessions, but I was probably a bit too late with it. That’s why I’d like to expand on it a little today.
Over the last few years, I’ve placed several hundred orders with ebay sellers. Unfortunately, I had to notice that some sellers package things in a downright absurd way. Simple comics are sent in a sealed plastic bag, then that in a padded plastic mailer, then that in a cardboard box, which is then sealed all the way around with plastic packing tape so thoroughly that you’d think the item was meant to be shipped waterproof. And that’s just a small example.
This affects both small private sellers and large commercial ones.
One large seller sent me 5 BluRays from a single order separately in 5 plastic bubble mailers.
Honestly: Because of this packaging madness, I no longer buy new items on ebay at all, but always at **bleep**, even if they happen to be more expensive there.
In some cases I contacted the sellers concerned directly. Although I only ran into a lack of understanding in one case, I still have the feeling that I’m fighting windmills here.
It won’t work to rate a seller generally worse for this, because that will only lead to endless discussions and dissatisfaction on both sides.
There has to be support from ebay here.
I’m completely aware that items are not packed by ebay, but I think ebay is clearly obliged to take on more responsibility in this regard.
Are there any ideas at ebay to take a step in this direction?
Maybe even a timeline?
There should be no shortage of ideas:
- An additional rating option for whether the packaging is eco-friendly
- An obligation for sellers to provide exact information in the listing about the shipping packaging
- Mandatory guidelines for sellers
Best regards...

·4 years agoHi Thomas,
unfortunately, that’s because shippers don’t handle the goods entrusted to them very carefully. Most of the time it works out, but badly packaged items often arrive battered. Plastic around comics, because otherwise they could get wet if it rains heavily during delivery or they stick out of the mailbox, or there is very high humidity/fog.
With boxes, I’d wish they could be folded up well and that there were buyers or return-takers.

Hello @hansdamv and thank you for bringing up this important topic of avoiding packaging waste here again! I personally can understand that this unnecessary waste bothers you a lot, but I also understand the sellers' perspective, who want to make sure that the items arrive at your place undamaged and want to play it safe in order to guarantee a good buying experience.
It's great that you're taking the initiative and pointing out the excessive packaging. However, since all sellers are themselves responsible for providing suitable packaging materials, it is difficult for us to insist on a resource-saving approach here. I'd be happy to pass your suggestion on internally as a recommendation; thank you very much for that! 🙂
Last week on Earth Day, we also updated our homepage for sustainable offers and explain there how eBay is committed to sustainability in the long term: Shop sustainably at eBay.
Kind regards

No, but WHEN will Khoros finally get the smileys sorted out, @steffi@ebay ?
I just had to delete yours from your quote again, otherwise I can't put my reply underneath it.
That's extremely annoying... because the question askers also work with smileys, when I quote I always have to fiddle around and then delete them.
steffi@ebay
Hello @bootyooty, I'm bumping the ticket again (which I had already created before my vacation)! If you want to quote my reply, do you get this HTML error message too?

·4 years agoYes @steffi@ebay I'm quoting your post, putting my reply underneath, and boom... the error message появляется.
Super annoying.

Totally! I'll add that directly to the ticket. And from your side, you still can't use smileys?
