🗨 Welcome to the general eBay Q&A session on 27/10/21
Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for taking part in the eBay Q&A session with the eBay Community Team.
As we don’t have a specific topic this week, please don’t hesitate to post your general buying or selling questions here.
The Q&A session will remain open until 3:00 PM. After that, it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will still make sure to answer any questions that may remain unanswered — please allow us a little time for that 🙏.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, enter your question, and click "Reply" between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The format of the eBay Q&A session reflects the format of our community discussion forums, where all posts appear chronologically. The Community Team answers each incoming question in that order and then quotes the original question in the respective answer. This quote and the answer appear later chronologically and thus further down.
Questions that we cannot answer directly during the session will be handled by us with a link to the answer.
If you unfortunately missed the eBay Q&A session, we’d be happy if you posted your question directly in the Community or simply waited until the next Q&A session.
Best regards
Your eBay Community Team

I’d be interested to know why the category changes were started right now, of all times, with so many IT problems?
Was that a directive from headquarters or a regional idea?
Many people’s impression is that the issues are not getting fewer, but more.
patrick@ebay
Hello @*gmk2* ,
the change was not only made in Germany, but in (almost) all languages in which eBay is represented. Outages or technical errors can always occur, no matter how far in advance the preparations have been made. Some areas, for example, had never or rarely had to experience a change before. It’s similar with releases of games or concert tickets: the rush is calculated in advance, but the servers still collapse.
Of course, we also learned that a lot should simply have gone better, especially in communicating with you.
Best regards
Patrick

·4 years agoHello ,
The way you treat us commercial sellers is a complete joke . Getting advice from you because of a drop in sales is like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse , because you are responsible for the drop in sales .
I get messages from buyers saying I'm sorry I can no longer buy from you because the direct debit procedure has been removed and you can no longer pay by bank transfer either .
Ebay should think about where you are here , in Germany and not in the indebted country of the USA where people live only on credit with a credit card . But when the state lives only on credit, the citizens do the same.
In Germany not everyone has a credit card or wants to use one and data is not being thrown around here either .
At the competition there is currently an offer for shops and a maximum of only 7% sales commission and no listing fees.
Ebay think about it . I honestly no longer know how to explain further drops in sales to myself.
miriam@ebay
Thanks for your honest words, @aelita86! We are planning to be able to offer additional payment methods in the future and are confident that these will also benefit your buyers. Some time ago, we introduced Klarna instant bank transfer as a new payment method for everyone. Klarna replaced the traditional bank transfer, which was only available for some of our sellers, as a payment method. Klarna instant bank transfer is a secure way to pay, and with it, purchases are always protected by eBay Buyer Protection.
eBay also regularly has sales promotions for commercial and private sellers. I have taken note of your feedback and will then share it with decision-makers.
Kind regards
Miriam

·4 years agohello everyone,
another week has gone by, nothing is happening, I’m at my wits’ end!
I already posted here in the Q&A last week.
in the meantime (since last week) I’ve already had several more phone calls with customer service, sent emails, all for nothing.
@EBAY, you expect service from your sellers (commercial).
what you’re putting sellers through here is really the absolute limit.
I’m a very polite and also patient person, but this really makes your blood boil.
so that you can understand what this is about,
here again is my post from 20.10.:
how can it be that with eBay customer service you “apparently run into walls”?
since 30/09/21 I have contacted customer service 9 times by phone (always about the same problem, which is clearly eBay’s fault).
each time a different employee on the phone, to whom you have to explain everything all over again.
in between, I also wrote x emails to customer service.
the answer....we’ll pass it on to the tech team, please be patient for two to three days....then everything will be fine.
result: absolutely nothing !!! so far, the tech team hasn’t even looked at the problem.
that’s what service looks like in Germany !
below is the description of the “bug”:
in my eBay account (business)
under:
Account settings
then
Seller settings
then
Settings for business sellers
there the two links are missing to:
***************************************************************************
VAT exemption for eBay fees (not available to all sellers)
Show seller legal information in listings
***************************************************************************
I can’t edit either my legal notice or my terms and conditions !
I ask for an immediate solution to the problem, thank you.
patrick@ebay
Hello @bodo99988 ,
I’ve just checked again, the error still exists unfortunately and it is being worked on. Please be a little more patient. I can’t yet tell you a date for when it will finally be fixed.
Best regards

·4 years agoYeah Patrick,
.....I've been hearing this thing about "being patient" since 30/09/21 :-((
at some point, everyone's patience runs out, I hope you understand me.
nobody gives me a clear answer as to when it will work again.
question: am I really the only one with this problem ?
I only noticed by chance that I don't have access to update the terms and conditions.
patrick@ebay
Hello @bodo99988 ,
I'd really like to fix the issue for you right away, it would frustrate and annoy me just as much.
I don't want to give you false hope either, but you're not the only one waiting for the fix. We have several accounts affected by this.
Best regards
Patrick

Where are the avatars?
Where is the link to the ratings?
Where is the link to the offers, e.g. for people asking questions?
With selected accounts, everything is there.
No one can explain this bug to us, I guess?
Edited: The answer is here
steffi@ebay
Hello @oskar_der_wikinger, I asked myself the exact same question today, and then Khoros. As soon as I get the answer, I’ll share it here with you!
steffi@ebay
Hello @oskar_der_wikinger, here is my promised feedback on your question: the standardized programming interfaces apparently let the information through for some eBay accounts. Unfortunately, no one could explain to me why that is.
We now hope that the problem will be fixed by the beginning of next week and would like to thank you all once again for your patience ❤️

Hello @Anonymous ,
the process is supposed to be completed by Friday. Then the display should be shown correctly again and the duplicate subcategories should disappear.

·4 years agoAre there any encouraging updates on the problems that were brought up in the last Q&A sessions? Which problems have been solved? Where are things still stuck?
When can buyers and sellers expect direct debit payments again?
Revenue losses in October, or rather the last 31 days, of just under 36% and over 3 years calculated at just under 65% in October. Most sellers can't handle that for long.
How does ebay imagine this if things keep going like this?
Almost every day some new problems, and the “old” ones seem far from being solved.
Recently, according to some users, there have again been more frequent problems with PayPal payments. How are sellers supposed to record income when buyers keep having problems paying?
Buyers can't get to grips with the category changes and can't find the items they actually want to buy. Huge disadvantages for us sellers. No or very little sales = no, or very few fees for ebay – shops have to be canceled or downgraded because sales aren't sufficient and it's no longer worth it.
My sales in October 2021 = 6!!!! items, this can't go on like this. And I'm definitely not the only one!
Maybe the pressure isn't enough anymore, given how ebay always says they're working on the problems. With the ongoing revenue losses, a growing pressure is building up among sellers.
miriam@ebay
Hello @perfect-sally! Over the past few weeks, unauthorized purchases and payment requests via Ratepay direct debit were made on eBay. While we are working with Ratepay to resolve payment disputes, the Ratepay direct debit method is temporarily no longer offered as a payment option. There is currently no further update on this.
We are continuously passing on feedback regarding the category changes and their effects, and some implementations have already been made in the last few days. I collected and analyzed the reported payment problems today and involved teams for payment processing and our technical department.
There can be several causes for a drop in sales; it might be useful to have a detailed phone call with our customer service here to discuss how you can boost your sales for the Christmas season.
Kind regards
Miriam

"There can be several reasons for a drop in sales; here, an in-depth phone call with our customer service might be useful to discuss how you can boost your sales for the Christmas season."

Come on, that’s ridiculous.
As if any of them could help!
The extra support for business customers was already discontinued by eBay
a long time ago.
