Ad fee despite organic buyer - Conflicting indicators in price suggestions
Hello everyone,
I need some help understanding Promoted-Listings attribution.
I listed an item for 179 euros or best offer and am using an ad for it (basic plan).
I have now received two offers:
152 euros – here it says in the window: The offer came through an ad
140 euros – this note is not shown here
But in the traffic history of my item it says:
Organic: 23
Promoted: 10
That means the item had promoted clicks.
My question now is:
Does the ad fee (9.3 percent) also apply to the 140-euro buyer, even though this buyer did not come through the ad?
Or is it really only charged to the buyer for whom the note is shown?
I want to decide confidently which offer to accept.
The display is contradictory to me, because the note appears on one offer and not on the other.
What I want to understand is whether the Halo rule applies and whether the ad fee is due on every sale as soon as there have been promoted clicks—even if the buyer did not come through the ad themselves. If the fee only applies to the 152-euro buyer, then the 140-euro offer would actually be better financially for me. But if the fee applies to both, then the 152-euro offer would make more sense.
Thanks for any explanation or experience.
Best regards
Sabine

thanks for making me aware of the issue in more detail again, and many thanks for your patience. It took a while because I discussed your request with the specialist department again.
You’re right, the fee definitely applies here. Under the following Link we can find the details about the various listing fees.
Kind regards

·8 months agoHello @camillehervier,
I’m happy to help you.
You only pay when your items are sold through a click on your ad. Promoting offers with the basic strategy is a cost-per-sale campaign strategy that provides general access to ad placements with standard control options that can help attract more buyers.
You only pay a percentage of the total sales amount when the promoted item is sold after a click on your ad.
The clicks metric on the “Marketing” tab shows the data for one campaign type and combines the number of clicks for ads inside and outside of eBay into one metric. The data on the “Performance” tab shows an aggregated value for organic listings and several campaign types, and the clicks are shown as three separate metrics:
In addition, the data on the “Performance” and “Marketing” tabs is reconciled at different times and may therefore show slight differences.
Please let me know briefly if anything is still unclear. We’ll be happy to help you again then.
@petersmodellbahnstuebchen Thank you
I wish you a wonderful day.
Warm regards

OP8 months agoHello Anna,
many thanks for your reply – that’s really kind and I appreciate it very much! But I actually still have one question of understanding, because I’m seeing contradictory information here.
You write that I only pay the ad fee if a buyer purchases after a direct click on my ad.
However, the official description of the basic campaign strategy says the following:
I understand this wording to mean that not only the buyer themselves, but also an earlier ad click by another person within 30 days can trigger the ad fee (halo rule).
So the item clearly had promoted views.
That’s why my question is again specifically:
Do I also have to pay the ad fee if the actual buyer does NOT come via the ad, but there have been promoted views in the last 30 days? That would be the case, because the potential customer with the €140 offer sent this as a counteroffer to my offer. Then the supposedly worse offer would be the better one.
Or put differently:
Does the 30-day attribution (halo attribution) still apply in the basic campaign strategy here, and do I have to pay in any case (because someone did click, since the item was advertised)?
I just want to be able to decide safely which price offer I accept – and right now I’m getting different information from the two price-offer windows. By the way, this is about item 205858718274.
Thank you for clarification!
Best regards
Sabine

Hi Anna,
@camillehervier has clarified their question once again. I also see it the same way, that the listing fee will definitely be due, regardless of whether buyer A or B buys.
Please be so kind and follow up on this once more.
Many thanks

OP8 months agoMany, many thanks for your support, Peter - that's really kind! I think that's how it is. But let's wait and see what Anna says about it. Maybe I wasn't precise enough and I could state my concern more clearly here again. But I also think you're right.

Hi Sabine,
I think that’s the case, but I’d like to have it officially confirmed by an eBay employee.

OP8 months agoI understand it to mean that I have to pay the listing fee in any case when selling because "someone" clicked on it - even if it only says that under one of the two price suggestions. Maybe someone can confirm that? Thanks!
