Are basic ad sales counted towards the performance of a premium ad?
Summary: The discussion appears to revolve around whether basic ads' sales are included in the performance metrics of a premium ad. Various participants engage, but the content specifics remain unclear.
Hi everyone,
maybe someone from Ebay can shed some light here? Why are sales from basic ads included in the metrics of premium ads?
Example:
Product A and Product B are only advertised through basic ads and the corresponding fee is charged upon sale.
Product C is only advertised through premium ads and is charged per click, but sales do not occur. Instead, sales from Product A and B are included in the metrics, which, to put it mildly, makes no sense.
A meaningful evaluation of premium ad performance is thus only possible with great effort.
Is this a bug? If not, how can basic and premium campaigns be cleanly separated?
If the topic has already been addressed, it can be linked here.
Thank you very much!

Hello @vrecko-kaelte-klimatechnik,
I’m taking this over here for @mia@ebay.
The specialist department has checked it and informed us that the item was in both campaign types.
The item was permanently in a Premium campaign. The basic advertising fee was charged on 13.4.2026. The item was also in that one and was now subsequently removed by you there.
Kind regards
Selina

OP4 months agoHello Selina,
thanks for the reply. That's correct, but not the actual problem.
To be more precise:
In the premium campaign for article 405908568450, a sale of article 405908578060 and a sale of article 405899466488 were recorded, both of which are advertised exclusively via basic ads.
So revenue is being imported into the campaign that was generated in other campaigns.

to bridge the time until something is announced officially - isn't it true that it's not the booked campaign that matters, but rather which ad the customer noticed your offer through?
I believe there was a change some time ago in how eBay calculates advertising costs, so if a potential buyer finds your shop through a premium campaign and then buys basic-ad products (within 30 days of clicking the premium ad), the commission is billed through the premium campaign.
As far as I remember, it's similar even with items that weren't advertised at all. If someone comes to your shop through an ad and then buys a completely different item that was never advertised, eBay still charges the commission for the ad, although the advertised item wasn't bought. However, it is then adjusted to the value of the sold item, should it be cheaper.
Honestly, I'm not familiar with the topic and I'm open to correction. But there was a lively discussion here in the forum about it, which I followed with interest. But I don't know if it is still handled that way or if there have been any changes since then.
For me, it seems like this approach would fit your scenario and explain why basic-advertising products appear in the premium billing: Simply because the buyers previously clicked on the premium campaign products and then presumably came across the basic-advertising products through other items from the seller.
But as I said, this is just my assumption and still needs confirmation from the official side here...

Hello @vrecko-kaelte-klimatechnik - I'm jumping back in here to clarify this once and for all, even though parts of @katzenjogi's answer are already correct.
What matters here, however, is the distinction between report and billing: in Premium Campaign Performance, sales are also shown on purpose that were not generated directly through advertised items. This includes so-called halo sales, i.e. purchases of other items (also only in basic campaigns or not advertised at all) that occur within 30 days after a click on a premium ad. That's why you also see sales of items in the premium campaign that are not actively advertised there at all (item numbers 405908578060 & 405899466488).
For billing, it still applies that a later purchase is assigned to the basic campaign and charged exclusively there if a buyer has clicked on an ad from the basic campaign within the last 30 days - even if there was also a click on a premium ad. So there are no double or incorrectly assigned costs.
If you click on the "sold quantity" at the ⓘ , you will also see a detailed explanation there:
Kind regards

Thank you very much for your contribution.
Could you give me a specific article number where this was calculated this way?
@perfect-sally - thank you very much for the tag.
