Delayed calculation of ad fees
Summary: knotenpunkt reports a delay in eBay’s calculation of promoted listing fees, which only happens one or two days after the sale. mauz_kautschuk adds that this can be especially annoying when you accept a lower offer price and fees are added later. bixtron shares the view that ads systematically lead to additional fees, and describes a personal experience where fees for ads were charged despite an organic purchase. sammlerkiste-1-2-3 points out that fees were incurred regardless of the buyer’s click source once an item had been promoted. Some participants report successful credits after filing an appeal.
I’ve noticed for quite some time that ad fees for some sales are only charged to me after 1 or two days.
For example, if I have sold an item and print out the "purchase details," then for some items the notice "sold via ads" appears immediately
and the fees for it are shown right away.
For some items, the notice does not appear, and no fees are charged either.
If I then look at the sales list one or two days later, it suddenly says "sold via ads" and the fees have been charged.
Why only one or two days later?
Does eBay assume that people won’t check this and then retrospectively charge fees that weren’t incurred at all?
Only a suspicious mind would think ill of that!
Best regards,

·3 months agoI've spent a long time now dealing with the ads and testing this — one thing became very clear to me:
If you run ads, you no longer sell organically, even though the organic views are usually much higher than the promoted ones.
It gets funny when the customer you sent your voucher to shortly before buys from you and 1 day later it says the following: "Sold through multiple ad types".
That's generally always weird... The customer comes in via the external one and buys directly. Later, the basic ad still gets charged anyway. Did the buyer click on my offer on eBay via the basic ad within the last 30 days and then later again on Google via the external one? I don't know...

·3 months ago · EditedNow I send a price suggestion, the buyer accepts it, and then I pay ad fees without being able to see beforehand whether the potential buyer clicked on an ad...

·2 months agoHey, if the item is advertised, it doesn't matter whether the customer bought it through the ad or not, the commission is ALWAYS charged once the item is advertised, no matter how the item was clicked on!!! That's why NEVER NEVER NEVER advertise all items, always pick out a few, otherwise this rip-off will hit!

·2 months agoThat’s exactly what I mean. The great eBay system thinks the same way, too. If the switch is "on", it gets calculated.
But repeat it a few times on the phone and you’ll get a credit :)

·2 months agothanks for the tip about "not promoting all" ... I maybe sell one out of fifteen products organically

·2 months agoNaa! Not so fast!
If a customer clicks on one of your ads, but then buys a different (not advertised) item, you pay the base ad fee :)
(Unless something has changed about that in the past?)

·2 months agoYou’re selling privately, @mauz_kautschuk .
That saves a ton in fees compared to ebay. 😐

·3 months agoWhat’s especially annoying is when someone sends you a price suggestion, but at first you’re not shown that the person is coming via ads (or maybe only clicks on something somewhere later, who knows, it’s insanely opaque). And because the system leads you astray, you go along with a correspondingly lower price suggestion and end up paying the fees anyway in the end. In my opinion, that’s a completely unfair practice

·3 months agoSo far, every time I was shown that the PV came in via a notification, and that's been around for quite a while now with the notifications!

·3 months agoHello @perfect-sally ,
you're actually right there. But take a look here (it happened again today):
I definitely want the €7 back. Could you maybe tag a staff member for me?
I won’t be using the listings anymore now, because it’s now more than clear that none of this is real, but just a scam - see the experiences of the other users...
