From April 28, 2026: EU directive for standardized chargers also applies to laptops
Summary: A participant informs us that from April 28, 2026, the EU directive for standardized chargers will also apply to laptops.
Dear sellers,
Since December 28, 2024, the EU Directive for common chargers (Common Charger Directive, CCD) has come into force. The aim is to reduce electronic waste by establishing a common charger type for certain rechargeable devices. This directive applies only to commercial sellers.
If you offer certain electronic devices for the first time in the EU and in Northern Ireland, you must do the following:
- Only offer electronic devices with a USB-C connection.
- Offer the option to buy the electronic device without a charger, even if it is offered with a charger.
- Display a pictogram and a label in your listings.
As of April 28, 2026, these requirements will also apply to laptops.
In our video, you will find a simple step-by-step guide to the best way to design your listings.
