A picture is worth a thousand words - tips for the best article photos
Dear sellers!
You may have already asked yourself what you should pay special attention to when photographing your items. The question is absolutely justified, because good item photos are crucial to the success of your eBay listings and how they are displayed in search results.
Did you know that you can upload up to 24 images of your item in your listings? And the better the quality of your photos and the more details you photograph, the greater your chances of selling the item with as few follow-up questions as possible and improving your conversion.
First, a brief note on the technical know-how: when creating your listings, you can upload photos of your item and edit them directly, e.g. select crops or change the brightness. The first photo you upload is automatically the so-called gallery image, which is displayed in search results and as the first image on the item page. However, you can also select another image from your gallery as the gallery image and move it to the first position by drag and drop.
Now on to the specific tips for high-quality item photos:
- Place your item in front of a simple white or neutral background, or if you are photographing a shiny or reflective item such as a piece of jewelry.
- With the background removal function, you can remove distracting or annoying elements in the background. This makes the item appear against a white background. You can carry out this image editing when uploading or later when editing images. To do so, click the “Remove background” icon next to the trash can icon. You can also manually remove the background with a brush or eraser. Save your photo at the end of editing.
- Use a tripod to keep the camera steady for clear, sharp photos. If you don't have a tripod, place the camera on a smooth surface.
- Avoid using a flash, as this can cause shadows, reflections, hotspots, and gray cast.
- Photos must be at least 500 pixels wide, but we recommend 800-1600 pixels so that they are displayed optimally on mobile phones too. Images may be 7 MB in size.
- Take plenty of detailed shots, e.g. of the top and bottom and the sides of your item with detailed close-ups. Also include photos showing damage such as scratches.
- There must not be any additional text on the image, such as "Free shipping", nor logos or watermarks. This type of information should be included in the title, subtitle or item description. Also do not use frames.
