New packaging regulations for eBay sellers in Germany
For sellers who sell items on eBay to customers in Germany, there are important new requirements for your listings. These are based on the German Packaging Act (VerpackG) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). At the heart of these regulations are sustainability as well as waste prevention and waste disposal.
Under the Packaging Act, you must register with the Packaging Register (LUCID). We want to help you comply with the new regulations, and for this purpose we have brought on board the experienced company Lizenzero as a partner.
eBay is legally obliged to ensure that all commercial sellers comply with these regulations as of July 1, 2022. If you have not taken the necessary steps by then, we will have to temporarily restrict your sales on the German marketplace for legal reasons.
Please do the following:
If you do not yet comply with the regulations, we will support you together with Lizenzero in the necessary steps. Lizenzero offers you an easy way to digitally register your packaging through the Interseroh+ system. The Lizenzero team will be happy to answer your questions about this.
How can I register my packaging?
First of all, you must provide the Central Packaging Register Office with the following information:
- Name, address and contact information of your company
- German or European VAT ID no.
- a declaration that your packaging is licensed with a dual system
You will then receive a registration number. When opening an account with a dual system, enter this number and the amount of packaging you use. You can also open an account with our partner Lizenzero without the number, but the number should be submitted as soon as possible.
We wish you continued success selling on eBay.
Kind regards,
Your eBay team
