The latest podcast on coin trading: rarities, collecting & stories
Dear dealers,
our podcaster Isabell talks with three coin specialists about trading in the coveted metal, collecting, and the risks that come with this business. Joining us from the trade association of the German Coin Dealers Association are managing director Stefan Lutter and board chairman Michael Becker. The eBay perspective is brought in by Tobias Körner, category manager for Collectibles & Rarities at eBay Germany.
If you’re interested in so-called numismatics, the study of coins, you’ve probably already heard of the trade association, under whose umbrella dealers, wholesalers and mail-order businesses, specialist publishers, accessory manufacturers, auctioneers, and more and more online dealers are brought together. At least two years of professional experience is a requirement for membership. And once the application is accepted, the person benefits from many advantages and may use the association’s seal or logo in their listings. It stands for the professionalism and credibility of the dealers.
And why is the coin business so attractive? Rare items have long been considered an alternative investment — including valuable coins. While dealers and collectors see a special story or a valuable investment in them, others smell a fraudulent deal. In the podcast, you’ll find out what to look out for when trading coins and what eBay is doing to protect buyers and sellers from fraud. Look forward to interesting insights into the world of numismatics and legendary stories from the three specialists in the latest podcast episode.
