The new podcast on re-commerce fashion and sustainability in the fashion industry
Summary: An announcement invites commercial sellers to listen to a podcast about sustainability in the fashion industry. Guests include Scott Lipinski from Fashion Council Germany and Heiko Johannisson from eBay Germany. They discuss the challenges of 'fast fashion' and the role of secondhand fashion in eBay's marketplace. The podcast highlights the importance of the circular economy and offers insights into sustainable fashion practices. It also emphasizes support for the 'European Fashion Alliance' and its efforts to promote sustainable fashion through EU initiatives.
Dear commercial sellers,
Hardly any industry moves as fast as the fashion industry. “Fast Fashion” today stands for overproduction and the exploitation of resources. None other than the CEO of the Fashion Council Germany and Chairman of the Board of the European Fashion Alliance, Scott Lipinski, is our guest today on our podcast team with Isabell and David. And because eBay gives the secondhand market for fashion and other categories plenty of space on the marketplace, Heiko Johannisson, Head of Fashion and Sports at eBay Germany, is joining in as well. The four talk about the necessary shift in thinking in the fashion industry toward more sustainable offerings, about visions of the circular economy in the fashion sector, and about concrete ways to implement this at eBay and levers for sellers. eBay wants to be the marketplace for a second or third life for many products, including secondhand fashion, and offers sellers curated websites by clothing category.
Under the umbrella of the “European Fashion Alliance,” organizations such as the fashion councils of individual countries, European fashion weeks, research and charity institutes are engaging with the fashion of the future. But the topic is also on the agenda in Brussels: the EU Parliament wants to limit Fast Fashion with a new resolution. With the new directive “Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation” (ESPR), fashion production is to become more sustainable and products more durable.
If you want to learn more about the great potential of your used, refurbished, and secondhand items, listen to this exciting podcast, which goes much deeper into the topic and uses hard numbers to describe business with these products not only as sustainable, but also as highly lucrative.
Good luck selling in the spirit of sustainability and product longevity!
Kind regards
Your eBay team
