A safer way to access your account
Two-step verification is an excellent way to add an extra layer of protection to your eBay account. By selecting an authentication app as your preferred verification method, the login process becomes more secure and smoother. This extra layer of security helps us verify your identity during login, reducing the risk of unauthorized access to your eBay account.
What is an authentication app?
An authentication app is a software program installed on a smartphone that helps implement two-step verification securely. It works by generating time-based, one-time passcodes that you use to log in to your account.
A simple and secure verification process
The 6-digit passcode generated by the authenticator app is stored locally on your device and does not require internet or mobile network service. It is based on a secret key shared between the authenticator app and the eBay app or website.
Enhanced security features to protect your eBay account
Using an authentication app as two-step verification is more secure than traditional methods such as one-time passcodes via SMS, phone call, and email. It is also less susceptible to risks such as interception of one-time passcodes, SIM swaps, porting, and network vulnerabilities. When the one-time passcode is sent to a device in your possession, it is difficult for hackers to intercept it.
Getting started
Go to the Account settings page to enable two-step verification and select Authenticator app as your verification method. We recommend using Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. You can also view our step-by-step guide for setting up two-step verification.
