European Union directive on universal chargers
The European Union (EU) is introducing the Universal Charger Directive with the aim of reducing the amount of electronic waste by designating one type of charger for portable devices. This directive applies only to business sellers.
Since December 28, 2024, only devices with USB-C charging ports may be offered or sold on the markets of the EU and Northern Ireland. Business sellers must also offer buyers the option to purchase an electronic device without a charger and must include additional details in the relevant listings.
Please note that these new requirements do not apply to products that are already being offered for sale or were sold before December 28, 2024 on the markets of the EU and Northern Ireland.
