Automatic closing of threads in members help members
This applies especially to threads in Members helping members:
Threads that are marked as solved should be automatically closed after 1 week of inactivity.
Threads should be automatically closed no later than after 1 month of inactivity.
If you want to give an update, then link to the old closed issue.
If you have the same problem and a similar thread is already closed, then link to that.
Keep it clean. A thread with more than 50 posts is completely unmanageable and replies can get lost.
In general:
Threads that have completely gone off topic should be reported as such and should be able to be closed or at least moved. You can’t be serious about writing over 100 posts about a color, that’s what the Cafe is for.

·2 years agoYep, the forum is complicated, in parts confusing. What I find worst is that threads/helpful tips etc. get shoved off into the archive, where you can’t get to them anymore when you want to look something up again. But cutting everything short, closing it, etc. would strike me as disproportionate.
Otherwise, my final answer is: 15.
edit: Oh, it was already solved ... 🤐

Because maybe you're not allowed to just dump your own opinion there?

Nope.
Ever thought that the person asking the question maybe didn’t mark the correct solution, but rather the one they preferred?
Then there are others who mark their own nonsense posts as the solution. So why should a thread in the MHM be closed after a month?
The same goes for these threads, why should these suddenly be limited?

Discussions can drag on for weeks, months, and page after page.... after all, that’s a discussion, and if that’s too confusing for you, then just don’t read it there 😉

OP2 years agoThis is a suggestion from me to bring some kind of order in here. It's nothing unusual in other forums.
I don't have to live and work with this chaos here. So Ebay can do what it wants, I couldn't care less.

·2 years agoWhy are you suddenly no longer able to cope with the existing structure?
de2014-khaib
OP2 years agoBecause I’m mostly in other communities and see and experience better forum structures there. Where small visual changes show who is replying to what and to whom.
Where the actual topic is always visible.
Where even if the thread has hundreds of posts, you still keep an overview.
With this flat structure on Ebay and about 15 posts per page, I already don’t feel like continuing to read on the 2nd page, not to mention the overview.
This system here is built for problem -> solution, as soon as discussions start and there are more posts, it’s over.

That was never any different back in the days of Liveworld or ID Media as forum operators, structurally a bit different, but discussions there were also pages long.
You can clearly see who someone is replying to here, the actual topic is always visible in the first post, ergo, I can't make sense of your whining and I'm sure nothing will change here.
Well-intentioned wishes will of course be passed on 😎

If you take a look here in the forum under "Settings" sometime, you'll find plenty of options
to make things here more "comfortable and clear" for yourself.
Just give it a try!
Some of your comments only suggest that you simply haven't gained enough
experience here yet!
Especially your demand that resolved threads should be closed after a certain time!
Unfortunately, you didn't respond to the objections from @bootyooty, which are quite justified!
I'm not always completely happy with the layout here either, but there are far worse
forums.
Incidentally, you can definitely see who is replying to whom if the person has set their post correctly.

OP2 years agoIf I still think the system is bad after a few years, then I just draw my conclusions. Especially because there are other, better ways to compare it.

It's really a shame that you don't engage with tips and objections.
You continue to express yourself vaguely and not concretely.
Unfortunately, that gives the impression that the main point is just complaining.
That's of course your right, but in the end it does prevent
a serious discussion.
