Introduction of an eBay lexicon
Hello Ebay community,
my suggestion: the introduction of an Ebay lexicon in a central place in the community and on other Ebay platforms.
- Community: The way a problem (buying/selling) is described can be formulated more aptly and more clearly, questions are reduced.
Further advantages:
- Telephone inquiries can be answered by customer service faster and in a more "nerve-saving" way, if callers use the necessary keywords.
- The same applies to using the automatic assistant.
Another problem: I've already noticed several times that in the official Ebay wording (on help pages or in the community) there are multiple synonyms for one and the same term. That can be confusing and greatly hinder the independent search for a solution. E.g. listing report: complaint, Start appeal, objection, appeal.
I believe that, without too much effort, a lexicon could be expanded by the MOD if they, for example, provided answers from proven advisors with a corresponding link to the lexicon.
Factual opinions welcome, thank you very much.

·2 years agoHello Anonymous!
Unfortunately, I can no longer reply to your message,
so I'm trying it here. I don't know if it works.
I think it's a shame that you took this route,
but it was probably the right decision for you.
All the best to you and best wishes!🤗

Hallo @Anonymous - 48 Antworten und ich komme erst jetzt dazu, mir das Thema durchzulesen. Hört sich jetzt schon mal spannend an!

·2 years agoThe real question is whether it really makes sense to make the "instructions" for Ebay even thicker by now adding even more help pages that are then supposed to help with using the help.
And maybe then it also needs another "help" that explains how to use the "dictionary" 😉
In my view, that would definitely be a development in exactly the completely wrong direction
Actually, one should probably rather strive to make the processes here as simple and straightforward as possible! ! !
Most users don't read all the boring stuff anyway, but just want to buy something very simply, for example new vacuum cleaner bags from China, or maybe just want to bid on a rare cookie that they can display in their cabinet with the cookie collection. 😎

many thanks for the post, well argued, I think.

OP2 years agoHere's an example of an 'internal' term that is completely unfamiliar to me and can't be found on this platform or in eBay Help. Nor in a collection of abbreviations, at least not a suitable one.
ainja2006
·2 years agoThose are not synonyms (for which (superordinate) term, anyway?); at most, one could equate "Start appeal" with "file an appeal". Complaint and objection and appeal are completely different terms.
And shouldn’t eBay, like any institution in general - and this should apply to public authorities too, in my opinion - orient itself more toward its customers rather than expecting the customer to adapt to a platform? It’s not for nothing that in other places whole departments are busy transferring certain terminology and monstrous sentences into an appealing language.
Anonymous User
OP2 years agoHello ainja2006,
" Complaint, objection, and appeal are fundamentally different terms."
That applies to German civil law. On Ebay, different terms are used for a single process.
Similarly: "request" a return.
"And shouldn't Ebay, like any institution in general - I think that should also apply to public authorities -, orient itself more toward its customers rather than the customer toward a platform? It's not for nothing that in other places entire departments are occupied with transferring certain terminology and convoluted sentence monsters into more appealing language."
I see it very similarly.
Thanks for writing.
ainja2006
·2 years agoNo, in general German semantics these are different terms. So Ebay, as you write in your initial post, which I was referring to, can't use synonyms at all.
In principle, we all agree here - the help pages leave a lot to be desired when it comes to real engagement and assistance. But please, no lexicon for that. That would be pretty damning, too.

·2 years agoUseless knowledge (black humor)
There are about 320 training occupations in Germany in the IHK / HWK sector.
There are about 20,000 degree programs.
Ebay has partly become so complicated that one or another person may, under certain circumstances, need a degree.
Please smile and keep going 😉

@ttd4it
So, as far as selling goes, you’re certainly right....what you business sellers all have to know and
take into account is insane.... I keep shaking my head here whenever I
read corresponding threads as an unsuspecting layperson....
But to muddle through that, you don’t need an encyclopedia; you can get the information
somewhere else too....
On the contrary, instead of yet another place to look up problems, what would make more sense is a simple, honest,
straightforward presentation without complicated frills, pitfalls, and constant unexpected technical surprises... and of course easy personal points of contact ....

·2 years ago@dmary56
It's not just the commercial ones ...
If I publish a list of mistakes here where you have to think along for the “counterpart” (m/f/d), some people might get the wrong impression.
So I'll leave it at that 🙂
I hope you have a lovely Sunday.
Best regards
Thomas

·2 years agoHello @Anonymous ! 😊
Did I understand you correctly, you want an encyclopedia,
where there are solutions from proven
advisors for certain cases?

OP2 years agoHello *sweet-melody*,
no, no, definitely not!
luden_hut
·2 years agoHey @Anonymous
So you mean that trading on Ebay now has so many problems that they'd fill a whole lexicon, without which you can no longer get by?
Then I’d suggest that, in addition, an online degree in "Shopping" should also be offered, which you can complete with the corresponding title.
And of course a Chinese course!
If it’s going to be complicated, then do it properly.... 😂
Anonymous User
OP2 years agoGood day,
So you mean that when trading on Ebay, there are now really so many problems that they would fill an encyclopedia, without which you can no longer get by?
No.
dmary56
·2 years ago@luden_hut
Studying just shopping is definitely not enough; a more comprehensive offering is needed.
And the intended degree title would then be "Master of the Ebay-Universe"
ainja2006
·2 years agoI suggest setting up the course at the Fernuni Hagen. With all the bells and whistles, enrollment certificate, final certificate, and so on ... Since basically nothing is free at Ebay anyway, of course with hefty tuition fees, which are levied and retained as part of the compulsory payment obligation. Time frame about one year, then you should be fit, including the updates. Maybe. If not, you can always repeat it. 🤣
dmary56
·2 years agoalso @Anonymous
I have to honestly say that the Ebay help is actually perfectly enough for me....
you can easily enter a term in the search bar
and you get the relevant results displayed there....
I would rather wish that more energy be put into improving the
help, into clearer language and presentation, and
that changes should be pointed out much more prominently....
By the way: the people who don’t come up with the idea of using the
Ebay help when they have problems, a dictionary won’t help them either!
Most users who show up here want quick help or are even just out to k......
please don’t think that they’ll first want to look things up so they can present their problem better....
That would probably be asking a bit much with the many smartphone users😎

And did you take advantage of the opportunities?
What did you get out of it?

·2 years ago@Anonymous, I understand it now. 😊 Sometimes I need longer.😉
I think that's a lost cause. On the internet I've
always found helpful pages so far. Of course you have to search.
Whoever doesn't do it out of convenience doesn't look in an encyclopedia either.
In that respect, I rather share the opinion of @dmary56 . #6

Good evening.
Maybe I'm being dense, but what exactly does NAR mean in German
molfish
·2 years agoFirst of all, thanks for the quick and comprehensive non-answer to my question.
Secondly, is Ebay censoring itself now, or why is the post my question was referring to no longer visible?
Thanks and regards
ainja2006
·2 years agoThe answer to your question, @molfish, is no longer visible either. 😂 It sort of took care of itself. 🤣
So, "nar" with a macron over the a means Arab. hellfire. Fits, I guess.
Google also spits out "Requirements for the connection room on the grid side".
Yeah, one might think so. 😃
Besides, "nar" is a mountain village in the North Caucasus.
Pick something from Wikipedia:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAR
I suspect it has something to do with 'no relevance whatsoever for this context'.

·2 years ago@ainja2006
Hi, and thanks for your attempt at an explanation.
I’d already looked online to see what it could mean, but I wasn’t really able to find anything.
Unfortunately, for me the whole thing is not very appreciative toward the users here.
If I’m going to post something like that here, then I should at least explain what was meant by it.
Then simply deleting the original post so it can no longer be questioned is, to me, a little pathetic.
Maybe @kh-stev would like to explain it again.
luden_hut
·2 years agoHello @molfish
I had already answered your question last night, but here, 5 harmless posts were simply removed
"No Action Required" means "No action required," just like it also said in the post that was apparently published here by mistake.
*sweet-melody*
·2 years agoHello @luden_hut !
My last posts have disappeared too. I didn't receive
a message.. Unfortunately, I didn't save it.
I was already so tired yesterday, maybe I also forgot to send it.
dmary56
·2 years ago@molfish
here someone simply accidentally wrote something that should not have been there
and later corrected their mistake by removing it... that wasn’t anyone from the community management, but a MOD from Khoros and you surely don’t really expect some kind of justification
afterwards? I think that’s not up to us here...
After all, the MOD didn’t personally attack anyone or comment on the topic
in any way that is now supposed to be obscured.....in my eyes, it was simply a matter of correcting their own mistake...
molfish
·2 years ago@luden_hut @ainja2006 @*sweet-melody*@dmary56
Good morning and thanks for your explanations.
dmary56
It’s just strange that several posts here simply disappear like that, and yes, you’re right, my expectations are probably a bit too high and "Kilroy is watching us" 😁
With that in mind, have a nice day 🙂

molfish
·2 years agoJust so rude, missy😂
luden_hut
·2 years agoHi @dmary56, what exactly is up to us then ?
Of course you’re right at first, people are allowed to make mistakes and correct them too.
The question is, though, how that is carried out
Since I still had the original thread open in another tab and was able to save it, I can confirm that in fact only what had no direct connection to the EP was removed, so more or less "off-topic".
However, the "solution" in this thread has now also completely lost its connection and for a reader is left standing there pretty meaningless
I believe that, as the person responsible, you can definitely act more confidently and transparently
ainja2006
·2 years agoWhich solution, @luden_hut ? That wasn’t really a solution before either, was it? Why should a question about "Nar" be a solution? I’m very surprised by that.
luden_hut
·2 years agoWhy are you asking me that, @ainja2006 ?
After all, it wasn't me who marked the post green as "ACCEPTED SOLUTION", but the OP!
dmary56
·2 years ago"However, the "solution" in this thread has now also completely lost its relevance and looks pretty meaningless to a reader"
@luden_hut, that’s right, the solution looks odd....but I seem to remember,
that Molfish’s post had already been marked as the solution by TE before the cleanup started...so it’s worth considering whether a MOD can just remove a thread’s solution like that...or even wants to.....
I’ve been thinking about it now, and I can’t remember ever
having had a MOD write here in the community since Khoros; someone from them once got in touch with me
by PM and apologized because my thread was accidentally deleted...that’s why I think that direct public written contact isn’t even intended here....
luden_hut
·2 years agoDefinitely not intended, @dmary56 , but quite possible as we’ve seen...😉
