Hello dear Ebay team, I would like to understand your mentor system. Is a mentor a rank that simply depends on a certain number of posts or likes - or is it a rank also selected for special members ?
if the latter, I would like to suggest that mentors in the business area should only be members who can demonstrably show that they have an active business account and also actively use it.
In general, I would like to suggest that especially in the business area, only users should be allowed to post who do this via a business account, and only with that account - regardless of whether products are currently being offered or not.
Background:
Picking on commercial sellers from anonymity is very easy. I'm sure some people would think twice about that if they also had to reveal their profile, which some do voluntarily on their own - but others unfortunately do not.
A private seller / buyer does not understand the issues that concern a commercial seller, keyword fee burden, tax burden, and the path in between to being able to operate economically in a sensible way, and the decisions that result from that.
one last point is certainly the level. Bashing and especially insults should occur less often in an area where only professional sellers are active than in a private seller / buyer area.

A mentor must meet some requirements, among other things, but that does not primarily include the status of whether private or commercial. The Members helping members area tends to receive a larger share of questions that are private in nature. Of course, presence in the community also plays a role - the chances of becoming a mentor are higher if a certain level of activity can be measured, compared with a completely new / unfamiliar community account.
The group Experienced sellers* has also already been mentioned and explained to you.
For anyone else reading along, that would be exactly the point you brought up. A space where only commercial users read and write. But there are also mentors who are commercially represented there.
There are also commercial users who prefer to actively use the community with a private account; everyone should always be able to decide that for themselves.

I asked ChatGPT to briefly introduce me as a seller in relation to the topic in this threat:
1. Attitude and motivation
The author places great value on netiquette and a respectful tone, even in neutral form.
Although commercially active, the income is not enough to live on – hence the relaxed attitude toward eBay.
Understanding of the challenges of self-employment and the effort behind earning one’s own income.
2. Experience as a seller
Has been commercially active on eBay for over 10 years.
Has repeatedly experienced buyers giving arbitrary negative feedback, regardless of service quality.
Always strives for neutral and unbiased problem-solving.
3. Request to the forum system
Application for activation for „Members help Members“ in order to be able to actively help.
Sees many posts where he/she could provide expert support, but is not allowed to write.
4. Personal note
Memories of bullying experiences during school days, triggered by the tone of some forum posts.

I disagree with that. Bashings and insults should not occur either privately or commercially.
*A private seller / buyer does not understand the points that concern a commercial seller, such as fees, tax burden, and the path in between to be able to run a business sensibly, and the decisions that result from that.*
There are private buyers and sellers who also buy and sell commercially. Even if perhaps
nothing applies, a poster can certainly know their way around all the processes.
Knowledge can also be acquired. Just by reading along here.
I’m writing here too, even though I’m only a private buyer.

mentors also have to observe and follow the netiquette and live with the consequences if they don't.
I have also received some outside of public view, because unfortunately I sometimes lose my temper as well.

You can find information about the Ebay mentor program and the requirements for it here.
There anyone, whether private or commercial, can apply as a buyer/seller, or be invited by Ebay to do so.
There are some closed areas in the forum where not all members are allowed to reply, such as MhM or private sellers among themselves. The "Commercial Sellers" section simply does not belong to that.
And I have to honestly say that, personally, I really couldn't care less. I try to conduct myself here in the forum in an unemotional and factual way (which unfortunately doesn't always succeed). And when I read posts that don't fit the topic, then I take note of them or not.

·10 months agoSo I remember that you had to meet certain requirements in order to become a member.
Among other things, of course, a business account.
But I think it also required a certain turnover or a certain number of BW or something similar.
Back then things got pretty heated there too, there were some real blowups, and quite seriously so.
I don't know what it's like there now; a lot changes, including the users.

And I am not "riding" any wave, the fact is that there are always discussions because replies are not welcome, that has been my experience after almost 18 years in this forum.
Rudeness and bickering have always existed.
Every post has a report button, it is available to everyone, so even those not involved can report posts.
Maybe @patrick@ebay can write a bit more about that too.
I'm out of here, I posted links for you, but now you're also starting to argue with me,
I really don't feel like it.
And just let this and other clear bashing against mentors be, it's simply ridiculous now.

I can totally understand your frustration...but of course, as you yourself already wrote, you must not
put everyone in the same bucket. The mentors, formerly "experts," are here facing a lot of attacks because Ebay basically elevated them to a kind of special status...as everywhere, there are some whose heads maybe got a little too big from that, but also some who really know their stuff and genuinely just want to help...some even do that in a rather brusque way and somehow don't notice it.
For someone looking for help in an exceptional situation, this is of course absolutely not helpful
and it keeps happening that the parties keep one-upping each other and, sadly, also on multiple pages in endless
discussions, and at some point it’s only about being "right"
Best example:
You're criticized for the additions to your neutral and negative ratings, because as a seller you shouldn't let yourself go like that, but mentors shouldn't let themselves go like that either, it doesn't fit with their job either....but it's human, which of course must not be an excuse..
I myself was never an advocate of the MHM, where only the mentors can reply, but I accept those who make themselves available there. Unfortunately, the number keeps getting smaller..and since not everyone can know everything, the lack of diversity often also results in wrong answers that none of the other users can correct/put straight. I would therefore find it appropriate if questioners were also sometimes directed to the discussion forum.
That is my long-standing opinion on the whole thing..I still stand by it and emphasize
at this point that I have spoken in general terms and am not referring to any specific person.

When is an insult punishable?
Not every “felt” insult actually meets the criminal offense of insult under Section 185 of the German Criminal Code. What is required is a defamatory value judgment or a dishonorable statement of fact that is made about or in relation to a specific person. Even then, not every insulting remark is punishable as an insult.

OP10 months agoIf eBay is of the opinion that such behavior from - some - from the mentor team - and - from some users should not be sanctioned and instead posts pointing out criticism should be deleted, then so be it. eBay must know for itself whether those who bring in the money are important to them or not. My paltry nearly 5000 euros per month will probably be relatively - how did someone from the mentor team put it so nicely yesterday? Six of one, half a dozen of the other. In another context.

that is indeed something I also criticize here...has happened to me too..
by deleting one-sidedly, content is sometimes completely distorted, so that newly
added readers can get a completely wrong impression...
either delete everything in context or leave everything as it is..

I myself have a different opinion about MhM, since things are much quieter there than, for example, here in this forum. People there stay on topic more often (not always) and try to help the users.
And if all the mentors' knowledge is not enough or if further information is not visible to us, we can always bring in an Ebay employee.
