Order from a "private" eBay seller, delivery by Amazon
I bought a small electrical item from what was supposedly a private seller, who had two dozen of them. The shipment tracking gave a strange package number "VD589.......". Apart from the message "shipped", tracking and determining the delivery date is not possible. The delivery is being made by Amazon! That can't be above board, can it...?!

·6 days agoI had that too about 1 or 2 years ago.
The seller had a wild assortment of household items, small electronics, liquor, etc.
Only when the delivery was delayed did I take a closer look and find out that everything was listed on the big A. And sure enough - the supplier of my bird food there was apparently having delivery problems and was only supposed to be available weeks later.
It then turned out that the seller account was registered in Pakistan. Using this pattern, I was able to find almost 100 accounts from a few conspicuous items. The accounts did in fact deliver, but they all came from Pakistan and were of course private. Some had then already moved to D.
Most likely they had a Prime account with the big A and simply added a markup to the price there. With the volume, they then made quite a decent turnover.
My justified, well-worded negative feedback was simply deleted by ebay.
I didn't pursue the matter any further then, but it's certainly a lucrative business model. You don't have to move for it; you can do it from anywhere in the world...

·1 week agoSomething's clearly not on the up and up when a private seller has two dozen of an electrical item.
But apparently that didn't bother you before.

OP1 week agoSimply hadn’t expected that after 20 years of Ebay without anything like this.

·1 week agoYeah, that's just how it is, it's happened to me too that I bought something in a hurry that I'd been after for ages, and only afterwards saw that it can't possibly have come from a private household @unguis40 .
If the item is okay, then it's actually fine.
Getting annoyed afterwards because you didn't check the profile doesn't do any good anymore.

·1 week ago · EditedTimes are changing @unguis40 and they have changed a lot here on Ebay (not necessarily for the better).
People have flooded the platform with their junk, and since private sellers no longer have to pay fees, the supposedly "private" ones have sprung up like mushrooms.
As you say, money doesn't stink, and a lot of people want to take as much of it as they can.
That's why it's advisable to take a closer look than before at where and from whom you buy.
The fun flea market Ebay, colorful and playful, has turned into a purely commercial, impersonal platform. It's a shame either way.

Yeah, okay, Chinese people are people too 🙄
That aside, why isn’t it shown that the text was edited by the mod?

·1 week agoHi @unguis40
Speaking against delivery by Amazon, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with it if the seller has stored goods there for logistical reasons and has them shipped from there.
However, I don't think that means it's a private seller. To me, that suggests more of a commercial business.

OP1 week agoI see it that way too, but apparently nobody's interested. Pecunia non olet.

OP1 week agoPS: A full month of return rights with free return shipping is quite unusual for a private seller...

·1 week agoHey @unguis40 I would definitely keep the packaging from the shipment... so that you don’t end up getting a letter at some point saying you ordered from Ama yourself and are being asked to pay again.
There were actually such incidents for a while, a few sellers then ordered using the buyer’s details, pocketed the money, and later the buyers received reminders because they hadn’t paid their invoices.

OP1 week agoToday Amazon delivered the shipment. Enclosed is a delivery note from Amazon and another receipt with the text "A gift from F......d". So discarded goods from Amazon, with which money is being made again.
