Confusion over the shipping info in "My eBay"
Summary: stubenkram describes problems with eBay's shipping tracking system and a delay in a delivery that unexpectedly came via DHL instead of Hermes. bixtron and *sweet-melody* share similar experiences and criticize eBay for incomplete tracking updates that undermine trust between sellers and buyers. lidor3073 shares another shipping problem with Hermes, where a delivery did not go as expected. The discussion centers on the lack of transparency and the challenges with shipping changes that affect buyers and sellers, as well as the need for improvements in the eBay system to avoid such problems.
Hello everyone!
The incorrect display in "Purchase details", when I can expect to receive a package, is irritating for me as a buyer and therefore highly unsatisfactory. I'm starting a new topic for this because I bought again from a commercial seller, but this time the process was different than here: Irritating information about delivery times when shipping with DHL
On Thursday, September 3, in the afternoon I bought the item for a total of EUR 20.89 and paid immediately via PayPal. EUR 4.89 of that was the shipping cost for a Hermes parcel. In "My eBay", under "Purchase details", it initially said roughly "Hermes parcel without tracking number".
The commercial seller had specified a "processing time of two days after receipt of payment". So I expected delivery on Wednesday or Thursday. On Wednesday evening, September 9, I then saw under "Purchase details" that "delivery is delayed" and that there is indeed a tracking number, but that the seller only handed over the package on Wednesday, September 9 at 18:22, almost a week after the purchase. I had completely missed at that point that it was a DHL tracking number. This tracking information still hasn't updated to this day, Friday, September 11. It still shows the status from September 9, 18:22.
On the same day, i.e. Wednesday, I had caught our divine courier around noon and asked him whether he had anything for me, which of course he didn't. I was quite surprised just now when the mail carrier handed me a 2 kg DHL package.
So the seller changed the shipping method and paid the more expensive postage for a DHL package out of pocket, for whatever reason. I think a shipping time of a total of 9 days is relatively long. It would be desirable for me to be shown earlier in "My eBay" that there was a change in the shipping method, that delivery is delayed, and when I can expect to receive it. As it is, that's nonsense.

It seems there are quite a few problems in this regard, not just the chaos with the info on when an item can realistically arrive.
As already written here, it apparently doesn't work for the buyer to be able to choose the desired shipping company during the checkout process if two different ones are offered. The cheaper shipping method is automatically charged and then paid for:

After payment, of course, nothing works through eBay anymore.
Recently I had the case where I bought an old game that the seller wanted to ship with DHL. After paying, I asked her to wrap the game box well and put it in a cardboard box. Then the dimensions apparently no longer fit and she sent me the game with Hermes instead. I then transferred her an extra euro via PayPal so she wouldn't have any additional costs - and I was absolutely not sure whether we were even "allowed" to do that.
Things like that should be manageable through eBay. It probably happens fairly often that the dimensions or weight of a parcel don't work out and the shipping method has to be changed. I would think it was excellent if sellers and buyers had a way to change that.
But because a buy-it-now only counts once it has been paid for, that doesn't work. Very impractical.

·3 weeks agoHello @stubenkram
I’d like to describe my current situation to you.
On Monday I received the money for a paid article, and in the evening I generated and entered the Hermes parcel tracking number, informed the buyer that I would take the parcel to the Hermes shop the next morning - which I also did - and Hermes picked it up too - but since Wednesday I’ve had the status that the shipment has arrived in the destination area and was supposed to be delivered yesterday. I informed the buyer and created an inquiry with Hermes: "Where is my shipment?" I can already see it coming that I’ll have to file a loss report and refund the money. Hate it.

·3 weeks agoHello @stubenkram + @bixtron !
I’ve had that happen several times too. That’s why I’ve started
simply adding 2 days, so the seller isn’t put at a disadvantage,
because they had shipped on time. And the items weren’t urgent for me.
I think eBay should stay out of it entirely,
since this three-way combo doesn’t seem to work well, apparently.

·3 weeks ago · EditedHey,
correct, that doesn’t work at all. Especially since only ONE party - namely eBay - is responsible for all these lies, the incompetence, and the resulting consequences. Still, I naturally have to suffer financial damage because eBay thinks I would ship too late...
But eBay knows full well what happened this year and what will still happen. So I think it’ll stay the same with the "We don’t care about anything, unless it’s about our supposedly hard-earned cash" attitude and the escalation will come as it must.

·3 weeks agoTwo days ago (15/09), both I and the buyer were shown “Delivery today” in an order overview.
The tracking says “Announced (11/09)”, so it’s massively delayed. There wasn’t a single scan, yet eBay still slaps the status “Delivery today” on it...
The worst part is that it damages the relationship of trust and always makes us sellers look bad, as if we were lying to our customers, because “The seller is responsible for this listing.”
