Midea PortaSplit eBay and PayPal deny buyer protection
Summary: maggi1983 describes a scam when buying a Portasplit unit on eBay, where a tracking number was provided for goods that were never received. Despite PayPal buyer protection, the claim was denied because the tracking number was accepted as proof of delivery. maggi1983 complains about the inability to communicate directly with buyer protection and PayPal’s lack of tracking for the shipment number. A response from eBay confirms the fraud case, but this information is not passed on to PayPal. *sweet-melody* confirms that scam cases with this type of air conditioner are common and refers to an unspecified platform as an information source.
Hello, I need help
unfortunately I fell for the big scam with the Portasplit systems on eBay.
I bought one for 410 euros, honestly thought hey, there’s PayPal buyer protection on it, it’s commercial, several people are already buying them, maybe they’re actually cheaper over there.

A few days later, a tracking number suddenly appeared in my eBay purchase.
1 day later the account on eBay was blocked and deleted.
2 days later the item was supposed to be delivered with JCEX, I was in the garden at the time, which is visible from the street, and suddenly it popped up as delivered, but there was no delivery person anywhere to be seen.
Now I opened a PayPal buyer protection claim, which was rejected twice on the grounds that there is a tracking number proving the item was delivered.
Unfortunately, PayPal says you can’t speak directly to buyer protection, they can only pass certain things on to it, but PayPal never asked JCEX for the domestic tracking number that would prove it was delivered to me, because there isn’t one!
All they keep saying is that the JCEX tracking number is available, (and I also didn’t receive a domestic tracking number from JCEX).
It sounds like an AI response to me.
There are already so many complaints about JCEX about fake delivery tracking numbers like this, I’ve been on eBay for 30 years now and have never come across anything like it, and then PayPal does nothing either — there should be hundreds of complaints coming in.
eBay confirmed to me on the phone that this is a scam, but then doesn’t pass this information on to PayPal, only the fake delivery status and the forged delivery information.

·2 weeks agoSince you had unfortunately already involved PayPal, ebay can no longer help and is out of the picture. As soon as the payment service provider is brought in, the matter is with them and can’t be handed back to ebay!

There’s a lot of fraud going on with this air conditioner right now.
