Pay by bank, DIRECT...
Well, not directly to the seller. And the unknown Irish "True Layer" is also involved in the transfer.
And then, unfortunately, True Layer doesn't know my bank and the process ends without payment.
Human support can't help, because eBay doesn't want a transfer from me on my own without this "service provider".
So my first purchase in over a year will be canceled right away.
Too bad, I had imagined it differently.

Hello @rialo and thanks for your detailed feedback! Pay by Bank is offered by TrueLayer, a payment service provider authorized and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Your bank login details are neither passed on to eBay nor stored by eBay.
Of course, it’s frustrating that your bank isn’t supported. We also provide information about TrueLayer’s role on our help page: Simply pay with Pay by Bank. I was happy to share your feedback on transparency and information about supported banks with the people responsible.
Best regards
Miriam

Thanks so much for the friendly reply.
Best regards back to you.

·3 weeks agoEbay should definitely communicate more clearly what True Layer is all about.
Seems like a reputable company, but I’ve also never heard of the company before.

·3 weeks agoHello @rialo ,
I myself pay via PayPal or by credit card.
This is the first time I've heard of True Layer today.
If you'd like to keep following up, just check back tomorrow morning, then an ebay employee can be marked.

OP3 weeks ago · EditedI saw Layer for the first time today with Pay per Bank. I suspect it’s to ensure account ownership, which is something that almost only eBay can afford to do (or has to).
Support told me to cancel it, if possible not tomorrow, but immediately. So I had submitted this request precisely because of “incorrect payment information.” I feel sorry for the seller.
I’d gladly transfer to eBay myself here, or top up my eBay account. But two people from the friendly phone support gave me no hope.
I have neither PP nor CC, and I don’t like any more data-hungry companies as “services” for my own payments either. Having to turn this from a triangle deal into a square deal here honestly seems absurd to me. That’s why I was actually pleasantly surprised by the new “pay per bank”.
Tomorrow I’ll definitely check the status here on the bay.
Thanks.

the advantage of PayPal is that you have buyer protection for up to 180 days 😉

The data ends up God knows where, nobody reads the T&Cs just because of their length.
Anyone who, like pp in their legal notice (2025), provides an email address in accordance with the regulations and then uses an auto-email to announce that this inbox is not monitored, cares very little about their customers' rights. Things get really interesting in a dispute.
Yes, buyer protection is of course great, but there's no such thing as a free lunch.

·3 weeks agoSorry, I can’t understand your dislike.
I’ve been using Paypal for just over 20 years now, hassle-free help 1-2 times because of non-receipt, hassle-free paying with secure login via ebay, hassle-free online payments with merchants using guest checkout without me having to register there in a cumbersome way, very, very little spam or phishing.
Besides, the "data kraken" would show up immediately if you write something online somewhere, register, are active on social media, etc. 😉

·3 weeks agoAnd what am I supposed to do with that 🤷🏻♀️
I thought yours was based on your own experiences and not on some links on some sites that keep popping up from time to time over the years.

·3 weeks agoHello @rialo ,
when I look at the payment options, then under "Pay by Bank"
this is shown .
My bank isn’t listed there either.

OP3 weeks ago · EditedRight, so far with the little icons I’m assuming it’s an excerpt (+) and not a final list.
But who knows, maybe customers of Commerzbank, Sparda, etc. are all left out in the cold because of Layer. Support didn’t give any hint about the pictogram.
I also haven’t seen an explanation on this website in that direction so far. That would be nice. And the necessary consent to True Layer probably should have been mentioned beforehand too.
There’s very little about this payment method directly.
Still, thanks for the effort.
