Price proposal accepted - Payment not possible

I wanted to pay for an item after a price offer accepted by the seller, but after clicking Pay it only ever says:
"This item is gone, but there are others"
At the same time, eBay shows me that it's in the cart.
When I look at it, the item is shown with the correct price.
Click on checkout
"This seller is taking a break"
I also noticed that the seller probably activated an away message in between (is on vacation until...).
Is that the reason?
Then the checkout is really badly programmed.
UPDATE: it was due to the away message.
The seller removed it and paying was possible.
