Pickup in the item description, but then shipping was agreed after all - what now?
Summary: stefan2711 offered an item for sale for pickup only, but still agreed to ship it to a buyer. eBay is holding the payment until the buyer confirms receipt via QR code, which is problematic because of the long distance. perfect-sally suggests that the buyer send the code by message after receiving the package, and warns against changing the sales terms after the fact. I offered an item for sale for pickup only. A potential buyer contacted me and asked whether I couldn’t ship the item after all. I agreed and he bought the item. I have now received a message from eBay saying that the item has been sold and paid for, but the payment is being withheld until the buyer confirms receipt of the item via QR code. Since there are 300 km between the buyer and me, that’s not going to happen, but I can’t just send the item now. Then I won’t get a receipt confirmation via the QR code and consequently eBay won’t release the payment. According to eBay, the payment is being held until 21.09. to protect the buyer. And after that? Possibly refunded to the buyer, to whom I will by then have sent the item?
Is there a way in eBay to change the method of handover AFTER the purchase?

Furthermore, it is not advisable to deviate from your details afterward, and after the purchase and payment, nothing can be changed. I hope you at least shipped it with sufficient insurance!

OP2 weeks agoThanks for the reply. The item hasn’t even been shipped yet.
But I’ve solved the problem differently now: canceled the purchase, arranged a refund of the amount to the buyer, relisted the item, this time with “free shipping” specified. Now he can buy it again and then it’s cleanly sorted.
