Offer was hidden: policy on item description - how do I list it again?
Summary: syncmaster951p received an email from eBay about placing a listing for an empty iPhone box in the wrong category. They attempted to correct the listing but encountered difficulties, as options to either end or edit the listing led to errors or dead ends. perfect-sally advised to create a new listing with the correct category to avoid risking the account, which frustrated syncmaster951p who had invested effort into the previous listing. bootyooty suggested that for a box, detailed effort might not be necessary and emphasized making it clear no iPhone is included. bootyooty also examined a linked listing which lacked a detailed description.
Hello everyone,
I just got an email from eBay saying that a listing, where I want to sell an empty iPhone box, was placed in the wrong category.
I’d like to correct this and put the listing back online.
However, if I go to check the listing in the email, I have the option to:
1) End the listing.
If I click that, the next message says that ending the listing failed and I should try again later.
2) Edit listing.
If I click that, the next message says, “ended listings cannot be revised”.
All other clicks and fields lead me into similar dead ends.
What can I do now?
How can I revise the listing and put it back online?
Help requested.
Many thanks in advance.

So in yesterday’s expiring listing, for example, I don’t see any elaborate text.

MentorSep 14, 2026 at 12:53 PMIn general, you can’t edit such offers; instead, you have to create a new offer.
Make sure the category is correct this time, otherwise you’ll put your account at risk.

OPSep 14, 2026 at 1:07 PMOK, thanks. But why does eBay offer these fields then if they lead into a dead end?
I had also put a lot of effort into the listing text and is that supposed to have disappeared now?
What a pain.

MentorSep 14, 2026 at 1:58 PMHi,
for a "box" with no contents, you don't really need to go to a lot of trouble, do you?
What's important is the right category and to point out right in the headline and AB that no iPhone is included.
