Item disappeared at DHL
Summary: lc-kjh reports a problem with a lost item that disappeared at DHL. The dispute was decided in the buyer’s favor, and lc-kjh feels unfairly disadvantaged through no fault of their own. Despite investigations and repeated inquiries with DHL, the whereabouts of the package remain unclear. perfect-sally explains that eBay has deadlines and sellers must be reimbursed, regardless of DHL’s delays, to avoid negative feedback. lc-kjh is frustrated and notes that the problem was caused by a shipping method recommended by eBay.
A buyer did not receive an item because it disappeared at DHL. Now, of course, there is a dispute case.
The dispute case has now also, understandably, been decided in favor of the buyer.
As the seller, however, I am not aware of any fault on my part. On eBay’s advice, I chose DHL as the shipping company, booked and paid for shipping with DHL through eBay. I properly equipped the package with the shipping label provided by DHL and handed it over at a DHL branch for onward transport. According to DHL tracking, the package has been stuck somewhere in the DHL branch since pickup. No onward transport is documented here.
Since the creation of an inquiry request at DHL, DHL has requested some data from me on 12/06/2026 (bank details, value of the device and serial no. etc.), which I also sent to DHL. Since then, there has been no further information from DHL. Even repeated inquiries by email went unanswered.
Now, however, I am supposed to pay for the damage caused by DHL. That is completely contrary to my understanding. eBay buyer protection is all well and good. But what about seller protection? It seems to me as if I, as the seller, have no rights, and I will, on my part, bring legal counsel into the dispute case.

Mentor1 month agoYou can't make the buyer wait for their refund until DHL deigns to reimburse you, because that can take a long time.
On eBay there are deadlines, and within those you have to refund the buyer. If you don't do that, eBay will step in and handle it for you. Then you'll also get a defect added to your account.

OP1 month agoI understand all that. But in the end, I’m the one who suffers the damage. Device AND money gone. Negative entry WITHOUT any fault on my part!!! Especially since the recommendation to use DHL came from eBay.
eBay can go jump in future. I don’t need to put up with stuff like this at 70 years old. 🤦♂️😞
