Automatically reinstated articles are counted toward the quota.
Summary: maplp8863 reports a problem with automatically relisted items on eBay that are unexpectedly counted against the quota of 320 free listings. Despite correct settings, fees are being charged that, according to eBay's help page, should not be applied. perfect-sally, alena@ebay, and voli-maus discuss possible causes and commercial seller terms. The eBay representatives, including miriam@ebay, review the case and refund the estimated fees. However, the problem remains, and further technical clarification is needed, especially since listing numbers change when items are relisted. maplp8863 plans to relist the items manually to avoid further issues.
Hello dear community,
I have a question that I’m hoping you can help clarify.
I am a private seller. So for me, the quota of 320 free listings per month applies.
If an item doesn’t sell, I have the rules for automatic relisting activated. That worked without any problems for a long time and didn’t incur any costs. But on Aug. 30, I was charged 0.50 EUR in fees each for about 60-70 automatically extended listings.
Today, the automatically relisted listings were also counted toward the 320 quota.
However, the help pages on ebay say:
Listing fees
You can create 320 listings each month without a listing fee applying. A fee of EUR 0.50 is charged for all listings created after this monthly quota has been used up.
Listing fees are charged only once, namely when you create the original listing or when you manually relist an item that did not sell previously. No additional listing fees are charged when relisting through the automatic relisting function or during the monthly renewal of listings created with the “Good ’Til Cancelled” option. These listings are also not counted toward your monthly quota of listings that are exempt from listing fees.
If I understand the help text correctly, the automatically relisted items actually shouldn’t be counted toward the quota. Or am I interpreting the text incorrectly?
Has anyone else had this experience and maybe a solution or some clarification?
Best regards,
Marco

Hello @maplp8863 and thank you again for your note and your patience.
We have reviewed the case behind the scenes and the offer fees charged in this context have now been fully credited back to you.
Regardless of that, we are continuing to look into the technical behavior you described, especially the question of why the automatically relisted offers were counted toward your monthly quota. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
There’s nothing else you need to do at this point, and we wish you continued success selling on eBay! 😊
Thanks for the inclusion to you too, @petersmodellbahnstuebchen !
Best regards

OP3 weeks agoHello @petersmodellbahnstuebchen and @miriam@ebay ,
today the offers that were automatically relisted were again deducted from the 320 quota. So technically, unfortunately, nothing has changed.
I’m going to take the offers down now, delete them, and list them again from scratch. It’s a lot of work, but I don’t have any other idea anymore.
I also noticed that the offer number changes after the automatic relisting. No idea whether that’s supposed to be the case.
Best regards,
Marco

Hi Marco,
if the offer number changes when relisting, that doesn't sound to me like relisting, but rather like "Sell similar item". Maybe that's the problem.
@miriam@ebay
Hi Miriam,
could you have this checked tomorrow? Thanks.

Thanks for the update,@maplp8863 and for the heads-up. Since the automatically reinstated offers have now been counted again toward your 320 quota, I’ve passed this along for technical review once more along with the current examples. As soon as there’s any news, I’ll get back to you.
Thanks for including me again, @petersmodellbahnstuebchen !
Kind regards
Miriam

OP1 month ago@miriam@ebay : Were you already able to take a look at my account? I still can’t understand why the automatically extended listings are being counted against the 320 quota.
I’d really appreciate any clarification.

How often were the auctions relisted?
normally this should work up to 8x without fees
maplp8863
OP1 month agoUff, quite possible that they were re-listed more than 8 times. In any case, they've been online for quite a while.
Can I see the original start date anywhere? Right now it says Sept. 6, so the date of the last extension.
perfect-sally
Mentor1 month agoIf you didn’t specify that in your "inventory unit" when the article first went online, it won’t be traceable back, at least not by you yourself.

Mentor1 month agoYou can just disable the automatic re-posting, @maplp8863 .
You got a helpful answer 3 days ago from the lovely alena.
maplp8863
OP1 month ago · EditedAnd what’s the point of deactivating it? Then I have to manually relist the offers. THEN they’re of course also counted against the quota.
BUT: According to the text in the help (see above), offers that are automatically relisted are supposed not to be counted against the quota of 320 offers. But that’s exactly what’s happening right now. My offers are automatically extended (and that’s how I want it), but when they’re extended they’re also being charged against the 320-offer quota.
And so far no one has been able to explain this mismatch between the text in the help and how it’s actually being calculated in reality.
voli-maus
Mentor1 month agoYeah, then you manually list the items again.
Only you know how many items you list.
maplp8863
OP1 month agoCan no one say how it is now with the counting when automatically resubmitting?
alena@ebay
·1 month agoHello @maplp8863 can you give me an item number. I can see that you listed more than 320 items in August. Here you can see your free item number. Each additional listing cost 0.50 euros.
Thanks for tagging @perfect-sally 😘
Best regards
maplp8863
OP1 month agoHello alena,
those would be 3 listings that I had posted over August:
327333571057
327333571281
327333571009
Like the others, they were automatically renewed every Sunday afternoon.
I had actually only posted 70 or 80 listings, definitely not 320. That’s why the count is confusing me and why I’m asking how the 320 quota is counted and calculated. Also because the listings currently posted were automatically reposted today and counted against the quota.
Best regards,
Marco

Hey Marco,
the lovely @alena@ebay is currently away.
Maybe the lovely @miriam@ebay can take another look at your account tomorrow to check the matter, thanks Miriam. ❤️
We can "unfortunately" not check your account; you may have used some paid options.

OP1 month agoHi Peter,
these are actually just normal offers with a starting price and a buy-it-now option. Nothing else. No 2nd category, no reserve price or anything like that.
No fees are shown when listing. Only now, on Aug. 30, 0.50 euros was charged for each automatically relisted offer.
Best regards,
Marco
perfect-sally
Mentor1 month agoThe starting price AND Buy It Now option could be the cause. So it is not a pure auction that is being posted.

Mentor1 month agoAs far as I know, the relistings don't go on forever until doomsday. But an eBay employee can certainly give a better answer on that; she'll chime in here.
Hello @alena@ebay could you please take a look? Thanks
And @maplp8863 somehow I also don't see any supposedly private seller from you! You only sell new items, and from the items already sold I mostly see new goods too!
You are typically acting as an entrepreneur or commercially if you:
buy items in order to resell them
sell items that you have made for resale
regularly sell large quantities of items
sell similar goods, especially new goods, over a longer period of time
frequently sell new items that you did not purchase for your own use
According to case law, the following are considered indications of commercial activity:
operating an eBay shop
number of current sales: if many items are continuously sold over a longer period of time, this is usually a commercial seller
the prolonged sale of a private collection over many years
type of items sold (new or used goods, value): the sale of several similar navigation devices was classified as proof of commercial activity – as was the offer of 250 batteries in various sizes, referring to the availability of larger quantities.
a website or the use of advertising descriptions that make a professional impression
Note: We regularly review our sellers' trading activities and, if necessary, ask them to mark their eBay account as a business account. You should also expect to be formally warned at your expense by competitors or consumer protection associations and to face court injunction proceedings.

OP1 month agoHello perfect-sally,
First of all, many thanks for the quick response and for involving eBay. I already tried to sort this out with the hotline last week. But that was unsuccessful. I also wanted to observe the behavior of the offers this Sunday.
At the moment I’m actually mainly listing new goods. I’m simply downsizing my model car collection. If I were doing this commercially, it would be bad business and I’d be bankrupt long ago, because years ago I paid considerably more for the models incl. postage than I can now get for them when selling. :|
