For all orders, it suddenly says "You are no longer covered by eBay Buyer Protection"
Summary: loole21 reports a problem with eBay buyer protection, where a message suddenly appeared saying that the protection was no longer available, despite the request being made in time. The account is shown as restricted, but there are no open issues. perfect-sally explains that buyer protection only applies for 30 days after the delivery date and recommends reporting items not received instead of requesting a cancellation. loole21 has reported the incident to customer support and hopes for clarification. An eBay employee is asked for help.
Hello everyone,
I currently have a very strange problem.
I wanted to use eBay Buyer Protection for a recent order because the seller hasn’t shipped the item for weeks. Instead, I’m shown the following message: “You are no longer covered by eBay Buyer Protection.”
I then checked several older orders and found that the same message appears for all of them. Apparently, I can no longer use eBay Buyer Protection for any order.
In addition, my account is shown as restricted. However, when I click on “Resolve problem,” I’m told that there are no open issues or required actions for my account.
Over the past year, I bought almost 20 items through eBay. I only used eBay Buyer Protection once. However, my return request was rejected at the time. All other purchases and sales were completed without any problems.
I also haven’t received any message from eBay saying that my account or my eligibility for eBay Buyer Protection has been restricted.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem or knows what could be causing it?
Thanks in advance!

Mentor3 weeks agoHello @loole21
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Our specialist department has just made an adjustment. Please refresh your page and do not log in again. After that, you should be able to open a request as normal. So you are not restricted.
Thanks for the inclusion @perfect-sally
Best regards

Mentor3 weeks agoBuyer protection applies for 30 days from the delivery date and then no longer. So it’s clear that there is no more buyer protection for older orders on eBay.
When was your current order supposed to be delivered? How long is the delivery date overdue?
loole21
OP3 weeks agoThanks for your reply. The estimated delivery date was 6–9 July, so it’s still within the 30-day buyer protection period. That’s why this is so strange. I also requested cancellation of the order, but the seller declined and hasn’t replied to any of my messages.

Mentor3 weeks agoCancellation doesn't help at all here and is the wrong way to go.
Ok, the delivery date has long been exceeded, and so you should be able to report an item you haven't received.
Have you already tried that?
loole21
OP3 weeks agoYou’re probably right. I should have reported the item as not received instead of requesting a cancellation.
I tried to report that the item hadn’t been received, but eBay showed “You are no longer covered by eBay Buyer Protection” and only told me to contact the seller. I’ve already reported the issue to eBay customer support, so I’m hoping they can resolve it.

Mentor3 weeks agoDon't rely on customer service.
Please give us the item number and we'll have an eBay MA take a look here.
Hello @melina@ebay would you be so kind? Thanks
