Can a seller cancel an already completed Buy It Now purchase just because they can make more profit through an auction?

I bought an item for 480 euros using Buy It Now and paid in full. The seller then canceled the purchase afterward (a little over an hour later) and informed me in writing that he does not want to sell the item for 480 euros because his other identical item is already over 1,000 euros in an auction. Now he has listed the identical item again as an auction. I want eBay to review this...
I have screenshots of his message, the original order, and the identical item that has now been relisted.
That can’t be legal, can it?

There are two sides to this here:
You have entered into a valid contract with the seller, and it cannot simply be canceled by one party. However, you would have to enforce this purchase contract outside of eBay.de.
We are the intermediary and cannot force the seller to fulfill the purchase contract. However, since that kind of action is still not allowed, I will report the seller, or you can do that yourself as well. The seller will receive sanctions, which unfortunately does not change the cancellation on our platform.

Mentor2 weeks agoThat’s not right, but eBay won’t help you with the item, and if the seller doesn’t do stuff like this all the time, there won’t be any sanctions against him either.

OP2 weeks ago...wow, really?! That's not okay!
I did enter into a valid purchase contract with the person, just think about the situation in “real life” with two market stalls or something side by side... You can't just take the item back out of the customer's hand either because the neighbor might sell the same thing for more money ("could" - the auction is still running)

However, you can always take legal action against it outside of eBay with legal assistance.
And the comparison with market stalls and online retail isn't useful, since there are different requirements.
