eBay guarantee is a joke and worthless
I’m supposed to write my thoughts here. Well then.
You can print out the eBay guarantee and then lay the paper on the toilet to use it later. If an item doesn’t reach me, I expect eBay or the seller to refund me. Instead, eBay closed the case and that was that. Shame on eBay.

So who’s actually right now? Should I really report an item that differs from the description next time if the envelope arrives empty? I’ve been on eBay for 25 years and this is the very first time an item hasn’t arrived. So this is new to me. Delays happen from time to time, but that’s the post office’s fault.

Of course. Yes, for an empty package, please open a return since the contents differ or are not there at all. If you open a case for an item not received, the system may automatically rely on the tracking number and not close the case in your favor. Even then, you still have 45 days to file an appeal. eBay does not offer a warranty, but rather buyer protection. The manufacturer of an item is responsible for a warranty.

However, if you report an item not received and the algorithm recognizes a valid shipping and delivery proof, this option is automatically decided in favor of the seller.
The reasons for the empty envelope may have resulted from several events:
the seller sent an empty envelope
the shipment was opened during transport and then sealed again for onward transport
the buyer removed the item and reports an empty envelope
....
How is Ebay supposed to check what really happened?
By the way, I don't want to know anything else, since @perfect-sally already wrote to you which case you should have opened.

OP3 weeks agoIt was probably an AI decision, given how quickly it came. I only received an empty envelope with no contents. Ebay ruled in favor of the seller. What else would you like to know?

Mentor3 weeks agoYou probably reported an item not received, and that was wrong. If the seller has proof of delivery, that proves delivery.
In that case, you open a return with the reason that the item is not as described.
