Experiences with purchase cancellations on eBay
Summary: et-pauker wants to exchange experiences and advice on handling purchase cancellations on eBay. They’re asking how other members deal with cancellation requests and under what circumstances they wouldn’t agree to them. perfect-sally explains that commercial sellers are required to accept cancellations and recommends agreeing to cancellations even as a private seller to avoid issues like complaints and return shipping costs.
Hello everyone,
I recently had an interesting situation where a seller asked me to cancel my purchase. This made me curious about how other members of the eBay community have handled similar experiences.
How do you usually deal with such requests? Do you accept the cancellation right away, or do you try to offer the seller an alternative? I’m looking forward to your stories and advice!
Are there situations where you would never agree to a cancellation? What factors play a role here?
Looking forward to a lively exchange!

if a seller asks me to cancel a purchase, I ask them why they don’t cancel it themselves. -> Probably to avoid a defect in their account.
Of course they can do that themselves if the item is no longer available or damaged.
Best wishes from the Baltic Sea

Because then the private seller also has to take it back either way and pays the return shipping on top of that.
And if a seller wants to cancel the purchase, I’d really like to know what’s behind it, and depending on the item I wouldn’t agree. But the seller can still back out anyway.
