Refund to seller after transport damage
Summary: reginald13 reports a shipping problem in which an item he sold and sent with Hermes arrived damaged at the customer’s place. Although he refunded the purchase price and postage, both Hermes and eBay are refusing to reimburse the costs incurred, as each of them is shifting responsibility to the other. bootyooty and other participants suspect that the problem can be traced back to inadequate packaging. The discussion participants agree that such disputes over responsibility are common when using Hermes through eBay.
The item was sold by me. Shipped with Hermes parcel. Shipping costs 5.19 euros. The parcel was undamaged on the outside. The item inside the parcel was damaged. The item arrived damaged with the customer. The customer documented the damage with a photo. I acknowledged the damage. I initiated a refund of the purchase price incl. shipping, and it has already been completed. I waived the return of the item (as the seller). Value of the item 3.00 euros, return shipping exceeds the value of the item.
Hermes parcels are insured. When I ask Hermes, I get the answer that Hermes has a contract with eBay and that I should contact eBay.
When I ask eBay, I get the answer that Hermes is responsible for reimbursing my expenses.
Each one passes the responsibility on to the other.
Who will reimburse my costs?
Value of goods 3.00 euros
Shipping 5.19 euros
total 8.19 euros

Mentor1 week agoHello,
so if the package itself was undamaged, Hermes will just blame poor packaging anyway.
All of it more hassle than it’s worth.
And once again a reason not to buy Hermes labels directly through eBay.
The fact that responsibility keeps being passed back and forth here is unfortunately not an isolated case either.
So chalk it up and move on.

Mentor1 week agoYou probably won’t have any luck with either of them, since each one is pushing the blame onto the other. But still, Hermes is the shipping provider and responsible for delivery and also for any damage that occurs once Hermes has the package in their hands for the first time.
I already know why I never create my labels through eBay!

Mentor1 week agoGOOD day first of all @reginald13 if no external damage was visible, the transport service provider can assume that the sender - यानी you - did not provide enough padding and that it was not packed carefully enough on the inside.
No one will reimburse you for that.
