Fake tracking with Jia-Packet – buyer protection is playing dead: what to do?
Summary: nikbre38 describes a problem with a purchase on eBay in which an air conditioner was ordered and paid for via PayPal. After the order, the seller requested a cancellation, which seemed suspicious. A dispute was opened with PayPal, but the case was decided in the seller's favor despite incorrect tracking information. The eBay buyer has limited options, as the seller is blocked and PayPal continues to reject the case. A criminal complaint has already been filed. One participant suggested contacting PayPal by phone again, as that is often more effective. nina@ebay from eBay explained that their buyer protection no longer applies because PayPal has already been involved, and also recommended contacting PayPal again.
Hello everyone,
I want to describe my current case here because I don’t know what to do anymore. Maybe someone here has been through something similar.
Briefly about the situation:
On July 4, 2026, at noon, I bought an air conditioner. Payment went through PayPal . Shortly after the purchase, the seller contacted me. He asked me to please cancel the purchase because he supposedly couldn’t do it himself in the system. He refunded me €2. Since that seemed shady to me, I opened a dispute with PayPal. On eBay, I would have only been able to open a claim three days after purchase. After that, the seller simply entered a tracking number from the Asian shipping service provider “Jia-Packet” there. According to this tracking, the unit supposedly had already been delivered to me on a Wednesday.
Of course, nothing at all arrived for me. In any case, it is physically impossible to deliver a huge 50 kg device like an air conditioner through a service for Asian small parcels within a few days. Nevertheless, PayPal’s automated system rejected the case because the tracking number had the status “delivered.” I then contacted support by phone. The case was manually reopened, but now it has been closed again to my disadvantage! Since I went through the payment service provider, the option to open a case directly with eBay is now unfortunately blocked. eBay only offers to let me message the seller (who has been blocked for a long time). I have already filed a police report. However, I feel completely left on my own. Actually, I would even have double buyer protection (eBay and PayPal). But eBay is simply unreachable for me. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to file a buyer protection claim when both the website and the bot in the chat prevent me from doing so.
Do you have any advice on how I can proceed? After all, this is about €400. I’d be grateful for any help.

Mentor3 weeks ago@nikbre38 Good evening. 🙂 Unfortunately, our buyer protection no longer applies once the payment service provider has been involved. Please contact PayPal again regarding this; you may have the option to file an appeal there.
@bootyooty Thanks very much for tagging me. ❤
Best regards,
Nina

OP3 weeks ago · EditedThanks for the quick reply @nina@ebay . Paypal has already rejected the case twice without any further comment. The reason given is that the package apparently arrived according to the tracking information. Nobody goes into any more detail than that. Can eBay really not help me there? Especially since eBay already suspended the seller from the platform a few hours after the purchase for a violation, I would expect the matter to be pretty clear.

Mentor3 weeks ago@nikbre38 maybe contact Paypal by phone about it, or have you already done that?
Some things can be explained and resolved faster over the phone.

OP3 weeks agoYes, already twice. Always the same: the case gets reopened and closed again after a few days without any further comment.
