Incorrect address on shipping label
Summary: The discussion revolves around an issue with an incorrect shipping label address. Participants are involved in addressing complications arising from this error, although specific actions and solutions are not detailed in the conversation.
Hello
I shipped an item to Spain with a label that I bought and used on eBay.
The item, according to the buyer, did not arrive and after a short correspondence it turned out that the address on the label is not quite correct. However, he entered it correctly on eBay.
According to the tracking information, the item was marked as “delivered”.
Understandably, the buyer opened a case, which was initially decided in my favor.
After his appeal, however, the decision was reversed and now a debit is to be made from my account.
I was able to upload by email the proof of posting, the label with the incorrect address, a screenshot with the correct address, a screenshot of the successful delivery, and an excerpt from eBay’s legal portal showing that for private sellers the transport risk lies with the buyer.
The customer service in Spain did reply very extensively, but they are somewhat stubborn and do not want to reverse the decision.
What now? 😞
Best regards
Reinhold

Mentor2 months agoHello @r.d.69,
Thank you very much for your post!
My dear colleague @mia@ebay had your case reviewed by our specialist department, and they found that your buyer entered the address exactly like that themselves.
The case decision in favor of your buyer was therefore not correct, and a manual refund to you has now been initiated. 🙂
Thanks for the tag, @perfect-sally! 😽
Best regards

OP2 months agoHello again
I uploaded a picture with the two addresses.
Some of the numbers got mixed up, which probably left the postman facing an impossible task 🙂
But anyway, thanks for your efforts!
There is still a difference of €2.75, but it’s not worth sitting at the keyboard any longer in this lovely weather 😉
Once again, a very heartfelt THANK YOU and have a lovely long weekend 🌞

OP2 months agoAnother question about basic shipment tracking from an inexperienced private seller 🙂
What happens if the buyer claims not to have received the item, but the tracking shows that it was already recorded at the first logistics center, but not yet delivered? 🤔
Best regards

Mentor2 months agoWith basic tracking, there is no proof of delivery; the letters are only scanned at the mail center.
If postage is paid via eBay, seller protection applies up to €20 including postage.

Mentor2 months agoNo, a proof of posting is not a proof of shipment, and the letter is not scanned when it is handed in. The letter gets an inbound scan at the mail center and, as far as I know, an outbound scan at the mail center.
I wouldn't know of a drop-off receipt at the branch.

Mentor2 months agoHey @r.d.69
As proof, the purchase of the stamp via eBay as well as the first scan at the distribution center and the last scan at the delivery center of Deutsche Post were sufficient.

OP2 months agoThanks for the answer, I always thought one scan and buying through eBay would be enough 🤔 Or?

Mentor2 months agoIf someone supposedly entered the correct address but a wrong address is displayed, that would make me very wary. The buyer can tell you a lot.
And if eBay Spain has decided, eBay Germany won't be able to do much anymore.
Please state the item number and an eBay employee can take a look at it. She will get back to you here.
@mia@ebay could you be so kind? Thanks 🙂
Did you compare the delivery address with the one on the label again before shipping?

There was no reason given and I also don’t know whether the buyer in Spain is now the one who loses out 🙁
The item number is 389966053606,
I didn’t compare the address again because so far it has always matched and I had trusted eBay on that.
On the one hand, of course, nice, but also very strange.
Thanks for your quick reply 🙂

Mentor2 months agoGreat, glad to hear it. Maybe they realized that something went wrong there.
I remember that we had something like this here before and it didn’t turn out so well for the seller.
That’s why I’d recommend at least quickly checking the addresses on eBay and on the label once more.
