Fraud suspected
Summary: deutscht expressed concerns about potential fraud when selling internationally, particularly with transactions involving Italian addresses. They reported previous experiences where items were claimed to be broken upon receipt, leading to refunds supported by the platform's policies. bootyooty suggested avoiding international shipping to minimize risk, while perfect-sally criticized deutscht's reluctance to ship items after a sale. Despite reassurance about buyer protection, deutscht decided to focus on domestic sales in the future due to perceived lower risks and concluded the discussion.
I am reluctant to send an object I sold because I suspect fraud.
It is not the first time that an object of mine is sold to someone with an Italian address that eventually ends up in a fraud.
What happens is that the object is paid, I then send it and upon receipt the person that bought it claims that the object is broken and the therefor asks for the money back.
Ebay then sits with the buyer and I can do nothing against it though I perfectly well know that there was nothing wrong with the object.
What can I do?
Best regards,
deutscht

OP1 week agoSo, to sum up, it can be said that foreign sales are riskier. I personally wasn’t aware of that since I’ve also had many very good experiences in this regard. I’ll see whether focusing on DE will be more successful... With that, the discussion on my part is concluded.

Mentor1 week agoIs this about the drone? It was sold yesterday and is listed again today? It can also get you into trouble if you simply cancel paid purchases and then relist them just because you can't get your settings under control and suspect fraud behind every purchase!

OP1 week agoI've been on Ebay for over 20 years and during that time I've successfully completed over 130 transactions. I know the Ebay rules all too well. But over the last 1-2 years I've regularly noticed scams (such as the one mentioned above). Some help from you would be to explain which "settings" you need to make in order to avoid scammers. This is a "help community" and not a "lecture community"...

Mentor1 week agoThere is no avoiding it, that should be clear. There is buyer protection and seller protection, but that doesn't stop those who want to cheat from constantly coming up with new tricks.
And anyone who sells internationally also knows the risks when a buyer from another country makes a purchase.

Mentor1 week agoOh, and lectures are unwanted then, even if they could help you do better next time?
If you've been on eBay for 20 years, you should know the settings by now. And 130 transactions is huge, you might soon be entered into the Guinness Book of Records. It’ll be hard to beat 130 transactions in 20 years, just wow!

Mentor1 week ago@deutscht why do you even offer international shipping?
Whether it's Italy or other countries, the same thing can happen to you, by the way, if the buyer is from Germany too; even then you're not safe from returns by buyers.
As long as it was bought and paid for, you're obligated to ship it, or you just stop selling here.
deutscht
OP1 week agoI’m aware of that too, but here on eBay I personally have only ever had such fraud cases involving Italian addresses so far. So in your opinion I should just ship blindly even though I have justified doubts that I’ll ever see my item and the money again!? I find that attitude questionable. I rather think it’s time for eBay to introduce stricter member rules. It can’t be that as a seller you’re left helplessly at the mercy of such scammers!
bootyooty
Mentor1 week agoI’ve made my opinion pretty clear, haven’t I?
NO international shipping and that’s that.
I didn’t tell you that you should ship, but that you can minimize the risk, though by all means do what you want; you asked for advice and no answer here is good enough for you.

OP1 week agoSee, that works! Next time without the arrogant undertone, and then the help is actually welcome. Thank you very much!

Mentor1 week agoSee, it works after all?
Hey, we're not at finishing school here and not in school either, your sentence wasn't arrogant or anything, right?
Also, how can a sentence come across as arrogant if you don't hear it?
Tsk... there are always people who hear things in it that weren't written anywhere.
