Summary: dyaneblau describes a problem with a defective socket outlet they bought on eBay. After the return period had expired, they communicated with the seller, who referred them to eBay for the return, but this was not possible because the deadline had already passed. Another participant explains that the warranty has to come from the manufacturer and advises contacting the payment provider. dyaneblau confirmed payment with PayPal, whereupon bootyooty suggested making use of PayPal’s buyer protection, which is valid for up to 180 days after purchase.
Hello to the eBay community. On 8 Jun 2026 I bought a Brennenstuhl Connect WiFi socket WA 3600 XS03 for outdoors IP44 (WiFi socket. Unfortunately it no longer works now. I contacted the seller.
Correspondence:
me: Hello, unfortunately the socket no longer works. Please send me a return label. thanks, MfG Desoi (dyaneblau)
Seller: Good day, that should of course not happen... You are welcome to request the return via eBay, as an exchange is unfortunately not possible with us.
me: We cannot process your return request for this item because the return period specified by the seller has expired. Contact the seller directly to return the item, or check whether eBay Buyer Protection applies to you. what about a warranty? Reply from eBay.
Seller: Good day, do you have an order number for us?
me: helloOrder number: 01-14760-45887
Seller: Good day, unfortunately it is not possible for us to refund your money from eBay's side. Please contact eBay in this case
me: eBay is not responsible for warranty or guarantee. I can't do anything via eBay. You are the seller, not eBay
What can I do now?
Thank you very much for your help

first of all: the seller never gives a warranty, at most the manufacturer does. A seller has a statutory warranty obligation.
And if 30 or more days have passed since the purchase, then you can’t get anything done through or via eBay anymore either. The seller can also no longer refund through eBay.
Consumer rights generally have to be enforced by yourself as well; eBay has long been out of it and is not responsible either.
How was it paid for in June?
You may still be able to open a dispute through the payment service provider. With Klarna, for example, up to 120 days from the purchase, with PayPal up to 180 days from purchase. But really, the payment service providers are not responsible for consumer rights either.

Mentor2 weeks agoTag @dyaneblau then you have 180 days of buyer protection since payment via PayPal and could still report a different item there directly.
